I went to a jiu jitsu class to see what the difference is and I see that alot of jiu jitsu wrestlers defend themselves on there backs while american wrestlers are taught never to go there backs. In wrestling you win by points or pin in jiu jitsu you win by submission or points. So my question is are their any pins in grappling (jiu jitsu)

In sport jiu jitsu, there are no pins. You get points for getting the mount, but you don't automatically win the match.

Wrestlers will turn over onto their stomach or turtle to avoid being pinned. In jiu-jitsu, you're told not to turn your back to your opponent because it makes you vunerable to a choke.

h-bomb,
I guess you can consider the mount, and side mount pins. Although in BJJ you are really after the submission, using superior positioning to better your chances.-ED

Maybe instead of shooting decent threads to the other boards, create a trash bin forum.

If it flames OT, throw it in the trash bin. Then again, a Trash Bin Forum might get more traffic than the main board.

Posters know which board they want to post on.

h-bomb,
Taking him down and letting him up may work or it may get you caught in a armbar. Goto www.intheguard.com (http://www.intheguard.com) and post your question there, the BJJ community unlike here are more then willing to answer all your questions and may even give you some pointers. Good luck at the submission tournament.-ED

Guess I don't have to add anything here. :)
In judo you can win by pinning, but you have to hold the guy for 30 seconds.
