The Sambo jacket is short sleeve which is similiar to the SC jacket.

The word Sambo is also very similar to the word 善撲(Shan Pu). During the Qing dynasty, there was a 善撲营(Shan Pu Yin) that had 200 SC guys as the emperior's body guard.

From Wikipedia, it said, "Sambo has roots in ... Mongolian Khapsagay and ..."

What's the connection between Sambo and SC? Do we have anybody here who train Sambo? If you do then what's your opinion on this?

"The word "SAMBO" is an acronym for SAMooborona Bez Oruzhiya, which literally translates as "self-defense without weapons."

Thanks for the information.

I'm asked to give a workshop for a local Sambo group. Just try to get some information before that event so I can prepare my material to the best that I can.

I assume Sambo guys will be interesting in no-gi environment instead of the qi environment. Not sure my assumption is correct or not. Can someone help me on this please?

Apparently, one of the principals of the style studied judo with kano for a great deal of time and used it to create sambo.

so, while linguistically, there is no relation, there may of course very well be a relation to other asian styles of wrestling and locking.

It's only been around in the form we see it now since about the 40's or 50's as it was conceived and developed from about 1920 forward.

that's the gist of what I could find about it. :)

YouKnowWho,

I am not a Sambo player, but have trained with one. From what I recall they wear a jacket (I think its called a kurtka) and shoes when they practice.

I had a Sambo guy in my BJJ gym for about a year. Lots of ankle and leg locks from that guy.....

Greetings,

Here is some old Sambo footage.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_UXpgOZ9eo

Note the arm stylism of the old man on the bench as well as the arm stylism of the 2 female participants vs one guy.

Also notice the entangling leg used at 2:30.

From this footage I got the notion they the creators looked at everything that could be effectively used in the development of their art.

The invitation to YouKnowWho seems to confirm that.

This clip looks quite different from the western wrestling.
