Hello everyone,

I'm looking to make my own Advanced Iron Palm Bag since the ones for sale are $150+. I am just wondering where can I buy the steel shots at? and which ones should I buy and avoid. The Shaolin advanced bags do not contain chromium steel shots. Thanks in advance.

Steel shot is not necessary. I filled mine with BBs from Wal-Mart. They work just fine.

Same here, steel bbs are cheaper, plus you can get zinc coated ones, haha! they can be used for airguns later on too, double fun!

You can check with some places and see if they sell ball bearings.

As to the zinc/chromium stuff, traditionally, the steel was used so it rusts over time and was supposed to help with the training and be absorbed into the hand.

Don't think that needs to happen the way it is said, so go with whatever is cheapest to find.

if you go to the indian grocery, they sell basmati rice in canvas bags-with a zipper and a carying handle! You can buy two of them for extra strength-it will cost you about 12.00

BBs generally aren't big enough. If the shot's too small, it'll just settle into a flat shape. By my learning, by the time you're hitting the advanced bag you want those shots to be penetrating to the bone. They should be about 1/4" diameter to ensure they stay protruding (for lack of a better word).

hunting store, reloader section. buy a big bag of shot.

If it's lead, make sure it stays in a bag within the bag. You don't want any lead in ya, dust or otherwise.

ballbearings are more expensive.

You can get 20 r 30 pounds of shot of 50 bucks.

LINE the bag you are using.

Dale Dugas and plumdragon both sell excellent IP bags, lined and unlined.

Here's some info:

Iron Palm Bags (http://www.iron-palm-training.com/iron-palm-bags/)

A few of the other articles touch on materials.

Basically, the reason that the ones you buy in stores are so expensive is because the come filled. The bag itself is usually the same regardless of what material you are filling it with.

Don't use lead, obviously :D

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'll look into everyone's suggestion. Regarding the bag, I'm looking to pick up this one through Everything Wing Chun. http://www.everythingwingchun.com/Everything-Wing-Chun-Ultimate-Wall-Bag-v7-Lhtr-p/ewc-bag01-v7-lthr.htm

The price is fairly cheap and I like how it's canvas on one side and leather on the other. It also looks like it can take a lot of punishment unlike my two Shaolin bags (Beg&Int) which seem pretty thin and if the Advance is the same bag, that would suck. Thanks again!

Hey guys. I was searching and found this iron palm bag that's filled with steel shots for a great price compared to other websites that sell it. Anyone own this one? How's the quality? Thanks.

It says "when filled with"...

It doesn't say that it is filled with steel shot. I would question that.

I have to call them to make sure, but I'm pretty sure its filled since they do sell the unfilled one here. http://www.martialartssupermarket.com/index.cfm?action=moreinfo&itemid=1628 But thanks for pointing that out, their description of the item is very confusing.
