Has anyone every injured their bowel from doing Chi Kung/Iron Shirt training?

I train Chow Gar (about 4 years) and would like to get some feedback on this type of injury. Should I just take it a bit easier, stop or disregard it? The pain is mostly gone but I am now getting the feeling my power generation is moving too high as I favour the injured area.

Any similar experience or useful comments appreciated (no bowel jokes now kiddies).

That is no joke--take it very easy until you're fully healed. In my opinion, you needn't stop your MA practice, but you should lay off the iron shirt. Actually, I completely stopped doing any hard-style ch'i kung. Soft only for me now. And if you're favoring the injured spot, that's natural protectiveness--don't stress it until it's ready. This isn't the kind of problem you want to exacerbate.

I had a similar injury and found it takes a long time to recover 100%, even after the pain leaves. In the meantime, of course, eat foods that will be kind and friendly to your bowels.

Thanks for the response K Chow. Actually the pain is back now- I got frustrated with the effect on my form and seem to have aggravated the injury again... how did you recover? Did you see anyone about it?

Insynergy- I train at a hall on Kelvin Grove Rd near Ashgrove. Email me at davidhannay@hotmail.com if you want the contact details of my sifu. We train traditional Southern Mantis- very good school.

The only reason I didn't get medical help was that I can't stand to go to doctors. So I just suffered it out and took it easy. I think acupuncture probably would have helped, but I just hate medical treatment of any kind. For you, I would say go get the opinion and help of a doctor.

if its tong long you maybe holding your stomach to tight if practising your chest and back exercises. by gripping the waist can stop flow of chi and bowel movement and can give you diarehha or constipation. plus it may lead to cancer if severe!

have you tried to massage the stomach in a clockwise direction ONLY. THIS MAY HELP WITH BOWEL MOVEMENT TOO!

Not that it's my topic, but why clockwise? And is that clockwise as I'm looking at my stomach or as you're looking at my stomach?

My inquiring mind wants to know :)

the colon is designed and flows in a clockwise motion from the small intestine to acending clon across the transvers colon back down the desending colon. i know some say do both ways daoist say both ways, you dont want to have it back up and cause all sorts of sh!t/trouble:)

clockwise is your right to up towards the live across the stomach to the spleen and down the left side to the sigmoid colon.

start from the navel and spiral outwards from small to large covering all areas. im gonna study more on internal organ massage and specialise in this area because all cancers and problems come from the colon. you should look after it and massage nots and crusty crap in your cest pool.

hope that clears up the way its done
