Black Taoist Update

Just saw a 2011 Hsing-I training video on YouTube of Black Taoist baby tapping a towel hung to a tree...this surprised me on a couple levels. Especially someone who has so many years of internal training behind them.... visually it could be impressive marketing if he was laying into it a bit, kind of like Kill Bill, but...


Anyway, just wanted to know if his fight ever happened. Couldn't notice all the videos hyping the lead up. All the talking.

Any one know if he fought? The outcome?

I think that, if you wanna post clips of supplementary exercises that are fun and productive, that's great.
But the fact of the matter is, the only way one gets good at fighting is fighting and advocating anything outside of that, smacks as "delusional".
One does NOT get better at fighting doing:
Forms
IP and IB
Weights
Gymnastics
etc, etc.

That said, posting videos of how to increase punching speed or crushing power or kicking speed is just fine, just don't make them more than what they are - building of attributes that MAY lead to being a better fighter.
Much like running builds cardio that may help you train more fighting to develop more "fighter specififc" cardio.

It's all come out as a wash in my opinion and not one of those dudes stepped up to what they said they would.

None of them did anything but talk trash, make you tube announcements and of course, fail to fight.

With that Hill fight, a completely different individual who fax doesn't seem to realize isn't the guy in question, but meh, here nor there because it lends itself to the point that although the guy who thought his bagua was shizzle got beat up by a kick boxing Muay thai guy at least he tried.

He learned more than the thai boxer guy did. And if he didn't, he'll live through that again and again until he does.

KFM has a lot of lurkers who hate Chinese martial arts with a passion and desire that you see the mma as the way forward.

I don't know why. They are two different things. I suppose Kung Fu can be adapted, but, eunuchs are adapted men.

If someone is into forms, qigong, thats what they are into and they don't really care about how much you can deadlift or what your fight record is.

Nobody here has an impressive fight record and nobody here is making killer bank from their clubs.

that would be don king and dana white that do that. The rest are amateurs when compared to the actual levels of professional training and high ranked fighters.

It's a bandwagon hobby fest too! Even for the guys who have "fighters". The fighters are not by any means recognized internationally, broadly, by you or by me.

I'd wager any of these coaches here with fighters could not drop one name that is well known and for certain, teh most well known individual out of the whole place here is Gene Ching.

doubtful. as long as I can recall, BT has never been a stranger to fighting-in any venue-I've even seen him compete in shuai-jiao, which although may not be his forte', he nonetheless got in there and did it, and did quite well. First or second pl in men's heavyweight, if I'm not mistaken.

It was one of these "world championships" where China sent a team over.... the level of fighting in that video, by everyone, would not even be considered shuai-jiao by today's standard. Any Kung Fu player that has sparred in a tournament faced similar level of aggression.

I give him credit for that. But that doesn't make him special... a few of us here have several sanctioned fights under our belt.

My issue with him has always been one of self promotion. This guy has had articles written about him and talks so much **** and in reality, what has he done? What has he added?.

Challenging a bunch of kids and old men on a kung fu web site when you're a giant is't brave..... face one man, your size in a sanctioned MMA event. Now you're showing how you relatively match up to today's standard. There's plenty of opportunity to prove what you say.

To me, he's the perfect example of a mouth boxer. With how much he talks, if he was willing and able he'd have a nice fight record that he'd throw in everyone's face.... fact of the matter is he doesn't have one state sanctioned fight. Zero. Zip.

His associate, in that video, got totally owned. It was like sending someone out to be slaughtered..... for the other guy to let you where MMA gloves while he's willing to fight you with pillows shows how much he respected him as a fighter.

What is really funny, they come off as these tough, inner city ghetto rats yet I know MMA clubs from the boon docks of Colorado, Fla., Pa. that are putting out real champs. These guys are so tough and skilled and have been training guys for over 15 years and that's the only guy to step up? And that's his performance? Refusing to come back out for round 2?:)

I said the same thing about Dale. He is gigantic as well. It is not brave when you are bigger than most. And it is not skill if you are throwing around your students who are all smaller than you. Good point, Ray.

In actuality, this is not an issue in the MMA or BJJ community.... you look around the class and a good number of them are competing regularly, pushing everyone. There's no need to talk, you know exactly where you stand every night because you're rolling/sparring.

There's plenty of leg humpers and egoists in mma clubs and jibba jabber idiots as well. plenty fo them. Just look at the slew of them that throw in with that and yet they come here and act like infants?

Your story above reads like fiction Ray. IN my experience in visits to a fairly wide variety fo clubs, it is totally idealistic and unrealistic. that club you are talking about doesn't exist, if it does name it! I'd love to visit a stoic stronghold of true competitive martial arts!

Otherwise, there are goofs in every club, people there for the shirt, loud talkers, close talkers, smart guys, idiots, good guys, bad guys, good fighters, bad fighters and so on.

mma and bjj clubs don't always know where they stand and don't propagate a better mentality. lol, that's laughable.

I've been to uber strict traditional kung fu clubs and I've been to mma clubs filled with fatties, lamos etc.

There are all kinds out there. It is idealistic to think that any club has a one up on some other club. If that were true, the variety wouldn't be as ubiquitous as it is.

Is he really big or something? You guys are saying he's like bigger than average? I like Dale Dugas. I like what he teaches and I like what he offers.
I think he is a stand up guy and has good knowledge of Chinese martial arts in a broad sense and I think it's cool that he has undertaken to explore, learn about formally and understand the medicinal and healing aspects that are unique to Chinese martial arts in an integrated fashion.

I'd be happy to head down to his studio in Boston and spend a day getting some Kung Fu education and when the time is right and stars are aligned, I'm pretty certain I shall do exactly that.

For the record: I am inquiring if a particularly public and vocal internal "sifu" has ever stepped up and fought a sanctioned match. There has been much talk that this was to happen.

It's confusing, because even in his winded half-mile jog interview, he states "I've done a lot of fighting. I've been in the cage."

I've seen video of him messing around, training I guess, in the cage.... but I never heard or sceen nor find any record of him having participated in an amateur or pro fight.

I am not a sifu. Now, at 37, currently, I have different goals than fighting out. Though I still bang while training.... I don't think its out of line for an "internal martial arts fan" to ask if one ... or any! ... of this system's fighters are out competing in the wider combat sport arena.

The others? It's not the norm. there's not a lot of difference between armchair ufc guy and the same guy at the bjj gym.

Any BJJ school should be able to tell you who they are affiliated with. They also have standards for each belt promotion, certain skills and knowledge that have to be demonstrated. The instructor, even if only a purple or brown belt, will be connected to a local black belt. Who will have a reputation and be known by the BJJ community.

The standards in BJJ are very organized. There's no phoney balloney. You earn your rank.

you know just reading through this...its interesting, first the whole african american people dont have identity thing:rolleyes: black culture is very rich in this country. as for the whole old ass convo tma vs. mma...blah blah...thats what i say to that, because the reality is a bullet to the chest will be the end of all your hard work and training, all the steroids in the world couldnt save you from a situation like that, and out in these streets more people are carrying just watch your local news for 20 minutes. ive trained in a variety of different styles, from bjj to xing yi chuan, since i was four, at first it was just to beat up my older brothers, but later it was just to have an activity, have i used my martial arts in fights? yes as a teenager more so then as an adult. as an adult i think i got into 2 fights, one guy i chopped in the throat, the other guy i wrestled to the ground and was pulled off him before i could pound his face into the concrete. ive also been robbed at gunpoint, do you think im gonna be like waaattaaa!!!! i know kung fu! or grunt and get into a mma fighter stance? hell no, cause i would be dead. mma is great to watch its a man on man sport that will hopefully take over boxing one day, but thats all it is a sport, the art to it is gone, and filled with idiotic juice heads who just want to hit things. tma is also dying because of all the watered down ****, the non asian sifus who walk around thinking they are chinese, and all the other nonsense.


so lets stop the bull$hit and promote some martial harmony. as for BT, whatever some people just like to talk, ive seen some of his videos, some of the stuff he talks about are pretty cool and interesting. but yea there are better ways to talk about them that dont make them seem like you are just talking smack, ive seen rudy curries videos those are much much better.

When you say "club" do you mean literally a club, like a college club? Or do you mean a gym, school or dojo?

Any BJJ school should be able to tell you who they are affiliated with. They also have standards for each belt promotion, certain skills and knowledge that have to be demonstrated. The instructor, even if only a purple or brown belt, will be connected to a local black belt. Who will have a reputation and be known by the BJJ community.

The standards in BJJ are very organized. There's no phoney balloney. You earn your rank.

In my vernacular gyms, dojos, dojangs, kwoons, et al are "clubs".

I don't ascribe one having quality over another, it's people that bring quality, not a room with stuff in it. :)

In all honesty, I'm not interested in undertaking to study and learn bjj.

I guess you're thinking of New Legend of Shaolin with Li Lian Ji? We do lion dance every year for numerous Chinese New Years festivities. Sai Lai Temple, China Town golden dragon parade, Alhambra, Monterey Park which is a really big work out. I have four sons, all very trong. This one is too big for that now and although very good at it has lost interest in martial art. I used to stand in forward stance with my hands over my head thumbs up the he'd run and step on my knee , hip, shoulder grab my thumbs and I'd hand him up the lion head.
