Many things can be aided by the explanation of medchanics, but not all of them. One that cannot use any other logic other than machines, is said to be mechanistic.

Try giving a mechanical explanation of entrainment.

"A room full of pendulum-type grandfather clocks with the pendulums in motion at different times, they will all swing differently. Within a day, all the pendulums will be swinging together at the same rate. This is entrainment; a group activity; that by itself has no particular changing influence. It was discovered by the Dutch scientist Christian Huygens in 1665.

At first when learning a new energy or form; it might be necessary to follow the instructor, and/or have them physically re-align or position your stance. This will give your body/mind relationship, a vehicle to incorporate the new learned experience (perceptions and related knowledge). Preliminary self-corrections will use the memory of the master’s demonstration as a model to compare oneself to.

When one follows another’s movements repeatedly, they become proficient at following; as cattle or sheep. One that is good at copying is a parrot.

When one’s learning advances, they become one with the master’s movements. They are riding/creating the same kind of wave. Each is feeling their own respective internal connections and energies; self aware and aware of the surroundings; adjusting accordingly.

Pendulums do not entrain, they synchronize!

They synchronize only when they share the same base. This synchronization IS explained by mechanics.

Here is a simple explanation of why pendulums synchronize:

As one metronome's pendulum bob moves to the right, this pushes the base to the left (because of momentum conservation). The base moving to the left then pushes the other metronome's pendulum bob to the right---i.e. in the same direction as the first pendulum. Thus the slightly faster pendulum gives a kick (through the base) to the slower metronome causing the slower pendulum to speed up. (http://salt.uaa.alaska.edu/dept/metro.html)

There is no mystical connection between an instructor and student causing entrainment of their movements.

There is NO cosmic period or timing inherent within any form. If the student is training according to the same pace as his instructor it is due to operant conditioning. By continually conforming his own movements to the pace of the instructor, the student conditions himself to operate at the same pace due to habituation. That is the student watches and follows the instructor and over time, by forcefully conforming his pace to the instructors pace, the pace becomes a habit. It is not until the student is able to break free of the instructor's pace that he has become free enough to make the form his own.

One should seek to eventually perform according to their own inclination and not be limited by the instructor's limits!

The two oscillators may fall into synchrony, but other phase relationships are also possible.

The system with the greater frequency slows down, and the other accelerates. When one does not know something, due to not being told, they can make the excuse that they were ignorant. After one is told, and they still cling to their mistake, they are just plane stupid.

Your implication was that the pendulums entrained, synchronized, by some mystical process, and not a mechanical process. You then attempted to imply that a similar mystical process occurs between an instructor and student when practicing a form.

Both are incorrect and both may be demonstrated by a decidedly mechanical process.

Brainwave Entrainment occurs through a mechanical process as well, such as using the rhythmic flashing of lights, beats or sounds!

It is NOT a mystical process! It is a Mechanical process! Your fancy that is otherwise does not make it so!

Attend to your own foolishness before you concern yourself with the foolishness of others!
