I will try and see if this works because I have some old articles about kung fu fighting in Asia. They are from the 1980's.

I was at the 5th championship labeled "Bloodbath in Taiwan." It was held in 1986; if I remember correctly, around September, October or so...or whatever month the Moon Festival was, because a friend handed out some moon cakes to us there. I *think* it was held in Panchiao(?). I was also at the 7th?? world championship, in 1992. Fun stuff.

I re read the article and it does say 1986, sorry. So you were there? Was it as they say in the artcle

I can barely read the small print as it appears online, but I did have the original IKF issue. The tourney was quite brutal. By the time this particular championship returned to Taiwan in 1992, they had instituted headgear, different gloves, etc. In fact, the format of the tournament was different in '92, but it was still pretty brutal.

Yeah, looks like a part is missing from the first article.

30 something years ago, kung fu was about fighting. It begs the question WTF happened

Later? :D

It has to be applied equally to ALL or it isn't moderation

If his standard is every single "non constructive post" then let him delete ALL of them, including his own

Obviously, to apply stricter standards to 999,000+ past posts is an insurmountable task, not to mention a great waste of time. It's just moving forward.

Once this firestorm passes, David Jamieson & lkfmdc can carry on with their bromance. Come on guys. We've all been here a spell. Let's bury some hatchets (http://www.martialartsmart.com/45-75cs.html) (and not in each other's skull).

modern wushu happened

It is an interesting tentative theory

I remember in 1995 the normal "NACMAF" national tournament which had been 90% (or MORE) traditional got basicly shoved aside so the USA WKF could do the world championships

The taolu (sp?) team trials got more support and press than the san shou team trials

Do you think "traditional" schools assimilated more "wushu" (ie MODERN) concepts to compete in the market place and thus dropped the old hard arse fighting

I mean, those Taiwan events were "gangster" (personally, I think in a GOOD WAY)

Taolu had precedence over Sanda, so it got more coverage in the beginning. We covered a fair amount of Sanda, arguably more than any other publication, and strive to continue that. However, as we both know, the USAWKF is taolu biased now. We don't have to get too heavy into this as we both know our positions on this, and it's not positive. Let's all try to stay positive for a spell, shall we?

We are planning to cover team trials for both taolu and sanda in our next issue equally.

You don't have to argue it, it is simply a FACT

The ONLY coverage in other places was because people went out of their way to provide it to those outlets

Only you guys actually showed interest. And it WAS (is) appreciated

the USAWKF is taolu biased now.

People seem to think Taolu "sells". I obviously disagree. I'd also suggest the dismal ticket sales at both World Championships held in North America would be evidence to back my position

We are planning to cover team trials for both taolu and sanda in our next issue equally.

You guys do it right. Unfortunately, the team trials for sanshou have become sort of a wasteland, sad really

I was "behind the scenes" on that....

I don't know if you remember, I was trying to do a "USA vs Iran" thing. I was bringing the Iranian team here. Not only did I get no support for that, the USA WKF tried to put the team trials on the same weekend

I don't want to get too negative either, so let's just say the fact there is no sanshou anymore in the US is sad and be done with it

But in reference to your USA vs. Iran conflict, I'll just point out the dates of this year's sanda trial: July 30th-31st, 2011, Civic Center, Lubbock, Texas. Hmmm, what else is happening in Texas that weekend? Oh right, I'm going to Twin Peaks with some forum friends (http://ezine.kungfumagazine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=60408). ;)
