I think we all here would agree that Mantis as we know it today descending from two main traditions: the Greater Meihua tradition and the Seven Star tradition.

After researching the most prevalent families of Mantis, I have found certain techniques that I believe can be considered to be a part of the ancient core curriculum of Tanglangquan. Though "cross-pollination" between families may also be an explanation for the similarities.

Here is a short list of a few of the techniques that I believe may have been the core techniques, since these techniques are found in the forms of both traditions:

螳 螂 雙 封 - táng láng shuāng fēng - Praying Mantis Double Seals

采 三 手 - cǎi sān shǒu - Triple Picks

黑 虎 偷 心 捶 - hēi hǔ tōu xīn chuí - Black Tiger Steals Heart

一 步 三 捶 - yī bù sān chuí - One Step, Three Strikes

葉 裡 藏 桃 - yè lǐ cáng táo - Hide Peach Under Leaf

崩 點 - bēng diǎn - Bursting Dot

點 睛 - diǎn jīng - Dot Eye

双 叫 - shuāng jiào - Double Invitation

霸 王 甩 鞭 - bà wáng shuǎi biān - Overlord Swings Whip (waist cut)

玉 女 穿 梭 - yù nǚ chuān suō - Jade Maiden Works Shuttle

撩 阴 捶 - liāo yīn chuí - Lift Yin Strike

邦 肘 - bāng zhǒu - Augmented Elbow

锁 口 捶 - suǒ kǒu chuí - Mouth Lock Strike

Comments, questions and corrections are welcome. :)
Additional insights are more than welcome!

how about Fan che?

Good point!

番 車 - fān chē - "wheeling" as well as, 轆 轤 - lù lú "windlass" are both found within the Seven Star and Greater Meihua traditions.

Wasn't Fanche a style in and of itself that was adopted into tanglangquan?
