If you don't allow to hit on the head, the striker will have no chance. IMO, it's not Chen Taiji but ...

There is a problem here, with the armor, it is no longer a strike competition but for wrestling,
can one really aim to damage? it doenst have to score head, if heavy strike can be used.

But by not allowing head punching, it changes the dynamics completely. Then the fighters leave their heads wide open (obviously), and use strategies that would not be practical with the head punches allowed. Also, including head punches makes your body punches (as well as kicks, etc.) more effective by mixing up the attacks.

I see the need for these:

Had this discussion elsewhere on this site already so I don't want to be seen to be beating a dead horse but, whilst I agree you can pull off throws in kickboxing gloves, the most practical glove for striking and grappling is the MMA glove.

If the competition organisers are worried about headshots being dangerous but don't want to restrict the freedom of primarily throwing based arts it'd seem to me the obvious solution to use the MMA glove in competitions like these.

I am not aware of anyone dying from a punch to the head in a competition fought under the unified rules of MMA. The glove gives more than enough protection and allows for both this...
