That is not the Chinese horse stance. He is leaning forward, and not keeping his back straight.

In addition, wrestlers do not use tier square stance the same way we use our horse stance.

Bawang is modeling himself after his hero Dave Ross.

He now thinks that GR wrestling is Chinese Martial Arts and looks to name it all as such because he can't make his tai chi work because he learned from 20 generations of pacifists.

Or something like that.... :p

I think throwing some of the modern sportive/combative stuff into the mix is good for any traditionalist. Keeps ya honest and clears away the cryptic goo more often than not.

I also think military manuals are good to have.

Remember, if it looks sloppy, but it works, it IS effective no matter your criticism.

That's called an "athletic stance." Wrestlers use it. Baseball infielders use. Football cornerbacks use it.

Its a great stable position to move from.

If someone grabs you, you are centered and balanced. Can pull or push.

You can circle in either direction equally well.

You can step forward, backward.

You can change level.

You can be explosive.

Wow, that video is pretty old. Very nostalgic.

That is my old college coach, and that vid was shot in the BU Wrestling Room. I can't even guess at how many gallons and gallons of sweat (and a fair amount of blood) I poured onto that mat back in the day. If any of you wants to learn a thing or two about wrestling you would be well served by watching anything and everything you can by that man. I'd bet a million dollars no one who has ever visited this forum would have the remotest prayer of taking that man down in a wrestling context no matter how many stars you step on. Easily one of the best wrestling coaches in the country and an absolutely outstanding human being.

Why do people who know nothing about wrestling always assume everything they see is greco? That vid was not specifically addressing greco.

It HAS to be a folk style/free style stance

Greco is all upright and hips in...

He was not "leaning forward." Maybe you should watch the video with the sound on.

catch wrestling = kung fu

to have real kung fu, you must train catch wrestling.

Hey Kansuke

It would be pleasant if you at least tried to communicate with others in a civilized manner instead of your typical one liners with a condescending attitude attached.

No whining, just do it.
Thanks

Thin ice.

I will shotgun approach if necessary.
This means everybody, and that includes you.

You wanna get all up in my face about it?
Go ahead, lets see what happens.
