Boxing programs have been very good for alot of disadvantaged kids. It teaches them alot of things they might not learn at home. I'm no big proponent of social programs, but I have seen boxing and martial arts help out some kids who were on the wrong path and turn them around.

Boxing (and now MMA) have alot of stories of guys who were saved by those sports. Look at Victor Ortiz (who is fighting Floyd Mayweather next month), he was on the wrong path, had no real family, and boxing pulled him out of that. And he is just one example.
