I tried listening to the whole thing, but kept getting distracted by his pointy head;

but anyway, here's what's what: now that most fighters have established a solid foundation of high-percentage techniques, u r going to start to see some more outlyer techniques, because the other stuff is relatively predictable, and most good fighters know the solution to most things they encounter along those lines; also, people can try more "flowery" things, because if they don't work, have their core tools to fall back on; it will become a game of "staying one step ahead" of the next guy, so probably some of the more "stylistic" stuff will manifest, bec it's a variation on the stright-forward stuff;

so MMA's not going "back", it's simply evolving;
