A guy did almost the exact same thing at a fight to me. I cornered him he tried to kick he missed he then rolled away from me just like that. I was quite amused took a full step in his direction he finished his roll looking up at me with a big smile on my face.

Hmmm...

Anything unexpected has a chance to work. Would it have worked if he had an overly aggressive opponent who chased him instead of in this case where he didn't feel like chasing him? Or, if the rules allowed kicking to a downed opponent and he just followed him kicking him while down?

Good way to eat a head kick coming out of the roll trying to stand up. Happened to my coach against Diego Sanchez. Riggs was trying to get up off the ground after getting clipped with a right hook and Sanchez ran a knee right through his chin. St Pierre nailed Miller as he was trying to do a kip up. Always get up with your face away from your opponent and a hand out towards him.
