This is just like when you asked why people weren't talking about the Ninja Kitchen (http://ezine.kungfumagazine.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1135897#post1135897). It's like when members here ask where the real kung fu is. You can talk about the Ninja Kitchen. You can submit photos. You can embody the real kung fu. Asking others on a forum is... is... well, it's par for the course here on the forum. :o

Okay, on second thought, never mind.

BTW, y'all saw this on our Real Life 'Superheroes' thread (http://ezine.kungfumagazine.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1136876#post1136876), right?

BOGANS, burglars, or burquas? We couldn't quite decipher the costume, but hats off to Shane Warne and fiancee Elizabeth Hurley for getting into the spirit of Halloween.

The superstar couple were out in disguise on the leafy streets of Brighton last night, as they took their children out to trick or treat.

Perhaps dressed as ninjas, the Shurleys - including Hurley's son Damian and Warne's children Brooke, Summer and Jackson - certainly looked the part as they paraded down the street.

And what better way to finish off a skin-tight black outfit and mask than a pair of old moccasins?

Warne's moccies looked especially worn through, while the ever stylish Hurley opted for a pair of knee-high black Ugg boots and kohl eye-makeup to match her headwear.

"Happy Halloween," Warne tweeted last night, attaching a picture of him striking a karate pose with his soon-to-be bride.

The couple has been playing happy families since Hurley touched down in Melbourne with nine-year-old Damian last week.

After an alarming incident with a bird of prey at Healesville Sanctuary last Friday, the pair have been bunkered down at Warne's Brighton mansion. See the Healesville Sanctuary photos here

"Just had a beautiful Sunday roast with EH and our children. Now about to start a huge game of Monopoly and then Trouble," Warne tweeted on Sunday.

The Shurley's bypassed Derby and Cup Day, yet may attend Oaks Day.

That's just crazy talk, Ray. While I respect kung fu as a martial art, I also respect it for the cheese factor. You just can't sweep thousands of outrageously cheesey kung fu flicks under the rug in denial. I talking God Ho here. That's great cinema (if you don't know what I'm talking about, revisit my article from when we first launched this absurd endeavor, Kung Fu vs. Ninjas (http://www.kungfumagazine.com/ezine/article.php?article=849))

That being said, MK is right. We keep the lights on around here through martial arts gear sales and you'd be shocked - SHOCKED - how well we do with ninja gear all year. We get another bump for Halloween here, but in truth, NINJASTAR (http://www.kungfumagazine.com/ezine/article.php?article=998) is all about good clean fun (because as any longtime forum member here knows, cheese stains wash out).

So without any further ado, HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

As of now, we've only had four entries total and we're awarding prizes out to 5th place so there's a good chance you'll win something if you enter.

Not our strongest showing this year - I think all the ninjas are preoccupied with Occupy - but at least we've had some impact (see below).

My Halloween census: Ninjas are up, princesses are down and the Redskins are out (http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/my-halloween-census-ninjas-are-up-princesses-are-down-and-the-redskins-are-out/2011/11/03/gIQA21oOnM_story.html)
By Jill Feasley, Published: November 4

For the past 18 years, I have chronicled the number and types of trick-or-treaters who arrive at my door on Halloween. This year, I had 157, pretty good for a school night. My “Trick-or-Treat Tally” began as a way to help me figure out how much candy to buy the following year. It’s turned into a survey of the seasonal zeitgeist (a word that literally, and appropriately, means “ghost of the times”), eagerly awaited by my neighbors and friends. Trick-or-treaters have been known to go out of their way to be included. This year, an 8-year-old girl dressed as “fancy asparagus” said she walked three extra blocks to make sure she got a spot on the list.

Over time, trends have become clear, but it can be hard to know what they mean. This year, I had five princesses. That’s a big drop from five years ago, when I had 12. Why the decline? Did Kate Middleton and the Wedding of the Century do something to the timeless dream of becoming a princess — make it seem too attainable, perhaps, rather than fantastic? Meanwhile, over the past few years I have seen a steep rise in the undead — zombies, vampires and ghosts — on my doorstep. Are these a metaphor for our economy, the way it lives among us yet seems to have had all the life sucked out of it? This year’s scariest costume, though, was a snowstorm. In October? Run for your lives!

I want my list to be as accurate as possible. Sometimes, though, I am overwhelmed by a big crowd and have to forgo good data collection to focus on client satisfaction. I have a standard procedure. I ask revelers to “tell me about your costume.” Many of them thank me for doing this, because some costume concepts are not obvious and few people will take the time to puzzle them out. Most of us see a little girl in pink, glittery ball gown and assume she is a princess, but when asked she may report that she is, in fact, a “ninja warrior princess” (and she may be more than happy to show you a few moves. Wham!).

Sometimes I am pleasantly surprised. Once, I asked a sullen teen in sweatshirt and jeans about his “costume.” He brightened, pulled a toy plane from his pocket and declared that he was an aircraft carrier. Sometimes the surprises aren’t as nice. One girl said, when asked the usual question, “It’s complicated. Just give me the candy.”

Kids dressed as Redskins players all but disappeared this year. In the past, when the team wasn’t stuck at the bottom of its division, I could always count on a few fans showing their colors. Better luck next year, fellas! I did have a bumper crop of ninjas (nine, to be exact). Perhaps, after the raid that got Osama bin Laden, the idea of stealthily getting a tough job done has resonance. I am sad to report, though, that Moammar Gaddafi is alive and well. He chose Snickers over Kit Kat at my house before gamboling off into the night.

We also had more superheroes than usual this year — Superman, Spiderman, Mr. Incredible, et al. Has the idea of ordinary citizens acquiring extraordinary powers in order to save humankind become more important? Or perhaps the superheroes are filling a void left by the wizardry of Harry Potter, who seems to be on his way out now that the books and movies have run their course.

I will confess that I look forward to Halloween almost as much as the kids do. I like seeing my community’s collective creativity — and generosity — on display. I am glad that children learn the benefits of asking and receiving as they scurry around like so many squirrels gathering nuts against the long, harsh winter. Halloween offers the chance for all of us to make real and face the things we fear — or better yet — the things we hope for. For one night, we just have to open our doors to the world around us and join in the fun.

Jill Feasley , Takoma Park
To the next generation of ninja warrior princesses!
