Thai writer-director Yuthlert Sippapak caught my attention with his bizarre genre-bending horror comedy RAHTREE: FLOWER OF THE NIGHT back in 2003 and has long enjoyed plenty of love on these pages, not least for his recent one-two punch of FRIDAY KILLER and SATURDAY KILLER. Before completing his KILLER TRILOGY however, Yuthlert brings us BANGKOK KUNG FU, surely pitched as a big budget crowd-pleasing action fantasy, packed with good-looking young stars and kick-ass action.

The story revolves around a group of four young boys who were abducted from their families, crippled by an evil gangster and then sent out onto the streets to beg for money. However, taking a young girl with them, the boys manage to escape and seek refuge with a Shaolin master, who trains them in kung fu to fantastical, almost mythical levels. Years later, the boys are now men and looking for revenge!

And old article on it:

In the long and varied career of Thailand's Yuthlert Sippapak the one genre he has not touched is martial arts. He's clearly wanted to for a while, there were even rumors a while back that he was developing a Thai spin on The Crippled Avengers. That never happened but clearly Sippapak has not abandoned the genre altogether.

A free agent in the Thai scene, resistant to locking in with any one studio long term, Sippapak always seems to have multiple projects on the go with multiple companies. After doing the latest Rahtree films with Sahamongkol he bounced over to Phranakorn to do his Killers trilogy and with both Friday Killer and Saturday Killer now in the can Sippapak has confirmed that he's putting a hold on Sunday Killer until he wraps up Bangkok Kung Fu for Film R Us.

Details are limited at present but the film is currently listed as releasing April 21st and will apparently be an action comedy. With that spring release coming soon there should be stills and footage arriving online soon.
