What are the pros and cons of the different types of push ups, including using those little handle things.

I have a question. I have bad elbows...so I can't do many push-ups without pain. What is a good alternative exercise?

try using Glucosamine as a daily supplement . it will help with your joint pain.

Those little handle things are kinda dumb, IMO.

But hey, if you like them, go for it. They might build wrist stability or something.

Good one Abandit.
Anyway, I started Pavel's Hit the Deck program and I'm dying. My test(max) yesterday was 31, so I did nine every hour till I went to bed. Today, I did 15 every hour, until now (going to bed soon). Tomorrow I have to do 18 every 45 min. all day, but I feel sore already. Guess I'm just not used to them. I do them on my knuckles. Doh. :(

The wider the hands are apart in the pushup , the more emphasis you put on the chest. If you bring your hands in under your chest, or closer, you're working mainly the triceps. Those handle things make the pushups a little harder, and they give you a better "stretch" at the botton of the pushup.

Thanks Primer. I settled on wide push ups on fists. Gives me a little stretch.

Could someone outline Pavel's Program? It seems as though it is pretty strenuous.
