Hi

I've heard several people on here mention the "variations of yi bu san chui"

what are they?

Ive just learnt the basic bow stance with 3 punches - back, front, back

and "huo bu san chui" which is - xiao deng shan low front punch, step back into cat stance with high back punch, step forward into xiao deng shan low front punch

what others are there?

thanks

walking in a straight line as you train the punches.
Walking diagonally as you make the punches.
In 8 Step mantis the one step three punches with advancing steps practically runs forward. There is a video of Wei Xiaotang performing this.

Will,
The first combination that I teach in my school comes from Zhao Yao Yi Lu and demonstrates the "yi bu san chui" principle.

Movement Eight
进 步 乘
jìn bù chéng
Advance Step

Movement Nine
拗 步 入
niù bù rù
Bent Step

Movement Ten
缠 鞭 过 耳
chán biān guò ěr
Wrap Around & Whip the Ear

Advance the right foot with a lead punch. Perform a right seal and a left reverse punch. Execute a right hook punch.

I make my students practice this on both sides of the body from beginner to advanced. We do it in the air, on BOB (body opponent bag), on focus mitts and then against resisting opponents in sparring.

Here is my son (Logan) and another student (Dominic) practicing two drills from Zhao Yao Yi Lu on BOB:

Hi Kevin,

I believe we call that Jian Bu San Chui (箭步三捶) in CCK TCPM.

BTW, for those who are interested, here is our version of "One Step Three Punches" with application.

Dash in to attack your opponent.

Land 3 strikes before completing one step.

When that becomes easy, land 5 strikes before the first footwork step sets down.

The key is to complete multiple hand motions within the interval of 1 footwork.
