I wish someone would offer me an irresistible amount of money. I'd take it, make the movie and not complain.

Jackie Chan No Fan of 'Rush Hour' Series (http://movies.yahoo.com/mv/news/ap/20070930/119116812000.html)
Sunday September 30 9:02 AM ET

"Rush Hour" put Jackie Chan in Hollywood's major leagues, but the Hong Kong star isn't a fan of his successful action comedy franchise.

Chan said when he made the first installment of the "Rush Hour" series in 1998 he only wanted to test the U.S. market and didn't have high hopes.

"When we finished filming, I felt very disappointed because it was a movie I didn't appreciate and I did not like the action scenes involved. I felt the style of action was too Americanized and I didn't understand the American humor," Chan said in a blog entry on his Web site seen Sunday.

The actor said he made the sequel because he was offered an "irresistible" amount of money to do it and made the recently released third installment to satisfy fans of the series.

Chan said "Rush Hour 3" was no different from the first two installments for him.

"Nothing particularly exciting stood out that made this movie special for me ... I spent four months making this film and I still don't fully understand the humor," he said, adding the comedic scenes may be lost on Asian audiences.

Chan's comments came even though the "Rush Hour" series, which revolves around the racial humor stemming from the pairing of a Chinese (Chan) and a black (Chris Tucker) police officer, helped the action star cross over to mainstream American audiences.

"Rush Hour" was Chan's first movie to break $100 million at the U.S. box office, earning $141 million, according to the box office tracking Web site, Box Office Mojo. "Rush Hour 2" made $226 million and "Rush Hour 3" has earned $137 million so far.

Chan has been known to be blase about his Hollywood work. He said in a 2005 interview with The Associated Press that he uses the high salary he earns in the U.S. to fund Chinese-language projects that truly interest him.

He also showed little enthusiasm for his latest Hollywood project, "The Forbidden Kingdom," which marks his first on-screen collaboration with fellow action star Jet Li.

I almost put this in the Forbidden Kingdom thread (http://ezine.kungfumagazine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=42599)...

Jackie Chan in talks with 'Rush Hour' director Brett Ratner to set up movie company (http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2007/11/20/arts/AS-A-E-MOV-Jackie-Chan-Brett-Ratner.php)
The Associated Press
Published: November 20, 2007

HONG KONG: Jackie Chan says he's in talks with Brett Ratner, the director of the "Rush Hour" series, to set up a movie company that specializes in Hollywood productions shot on location in China.

Chan revealed the possible venture in a blog entry on his official Web site Tuesday.

"The whole idea of this company is for China and America to cooperate so I can make American films in China and Brett can act as my consultant, giving me advice, and deciding whether or not the film would be suitable for the American market," he wrote, adding that Ratner may also scout for new directors.

Chan said the quickest way to set up the new company, which he said would be called "Chan Ratner Company," was for the two filmmakers to shoot another movie together.

Solon So, senior vice president of Chan's company, JC Group, said the two partners haven't agreed on any specific projects.

Ratner didn't immediately reply to a reporter's e-mail seeking comment.

Chan recently finished shooting the Hollywood movie "The Forbidden Kingdom" in China, which marks his first on-screen collaboration with fellow action star Jet Li.

Chan called Ratner a "very smart director" and "very quick learner."

He said earlier Ratner had matured as a director between the second and third "Rush Hour" installment.

While filming the third installment, "he knows which camera angles he wants to use and he has complete control of the set," Chan said in his blog at the time.

The "Rush Hour" series, which stars Chan and Chris Tucker, is a career milestone for both Chan and Ratner.

The first installment, released in 1998, was the first movie to break US$100 million (€68.2 million) at the U.S. box office for both filmmakers, according to figures compiled by the box office tracking Web site Box Office Mojo.

The trilogy has made a combined US$507 million (€346 million) so far, according to Box Office Mojo's figures.

Since the success of "Rush Hour," Ratner went on to direct "Red Dragon" and "X-Men: The Last Stand."

EXCLUSIVE: Jackie Chan, Chris Tucker To Reunite For Non-’Rush Hour’ Movie (http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2008/04/14/exclusive-jackie-chan-chris-tucker-to-reunite-for-non-rush-hour-movie/)
Published by Larry Carroll on Monday, April 14, 2008 at 2:57 pm.

The good news is that Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan shook hands recently on a deal that will reunite them for another movie. The better news is that it won’t be a “Rush Hour” film.

“Nowadays, you need a middleman to push things; in the old days, we didn’t need a push from a middleman,” Chan told me over the weekend, comparing the difficulties in getting together with a star like Jet Li (whom he’ll do battle with in “The Forbidden Kingdom” on April 18) and synching schedules with Tucker.

“It’s like two days ago when Chris Tucker called me,” the martial arts legend said Saturday. “We sat down and decided we want to do another movie. Not a ‘Rush Hour’ — something new.”

That would seem to be good news for fans who’ve been so attracted to the Chan/ Tucker action-comedy series that they’ve powered it to nearly $1 billion worldwide, but who also largely considered last summer’s “Rush Hour 3” to be an indication that the franchise has run out of gas.

“I said yes, and after I shook [Tucker’s] hand, I said: ‘Look, we need a middleman. I don’t want to shake hands, then I go back to Hong Kong and you stay here, I get busy and you get busy,’ ” he recalled. “You have to have somebody in the middle to follow up, otherwise it will never happen.

“We’ve just agreed to do it,” he added. “Now we’re looking for the writer.”

Pressed for more information, Chan said the film didn’t have a title, and he didn’t reveal whether “Rush Hour” series director Brett Ratner would return. Previously, Ratner would have served as such a “middleman” between the two stars — though maybe not as effectively as Chan would’ve liked. “We finished ‘Rush Hour 1,’ and it was six years later that we made ‘Rush Hour 2,’ ” he said, “and then six years later we made ‘Rush Hour 3.’ It’s too long!”

Cannes: Jackie Chan Nixes Rush Hour 4 (http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=34020)
But might do it in a decade
20 May 2012 | Written by Nick de Semlyen

At a Cannes press conference to hype up his latest movie — globe-spanning treasure-hunting caper Chinese Zodiac — Jackie Chan announced that he’s done with bone-crunching action for good, but added, “In the future I’ll still do Karate Kid 2, Rush Hour 4…”

This statement, combined with the fact that Rush Hour director Brett Ratner flew into France to help his buddy promote Chinese Zodiac, got us wondering whether the fourquel is actually already underway. But when Empire sat down with Chan after the press conference, he made it clear that he won’t be re-uniting with Chris Tucker any time soon.

“No, no, no! I don’t want it to happen at this moment,” he announced, shaking his head furiously. “Probably another five or ten years. Then will be Rush Hour 4 – boom, we’re coming back! And at that time I might retire. Us being old guys might make it a more interesting story. But at this moment I don’t think it’s something I want to do.”

So there you go. Those keen for more culture-clash carnage may have to wait until 2022, by which time it could be less Rush Hour, more Trudge Hour…

Exclusive: Rush Hour 4 is Happening! (http://www.craveonline.com/film/articles/193091-exclusive-rush-hour-4-is-happening)
Producer Arthur Sarkissian says Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker are involved, teases plot ideas and a part reserved for Octavia Spencer.
By Fred Topel
July 29, 2012

We ran into movie producer Arthur Sarkissian at the Television Critics Association press tour. He produced his first TV series, “Vegas,” on CBS. We spoke about the upcoming fall drama, then moved to his potential movie projects. When we fished for his interest in doing another Rush Hour, Sarkissian revealed there’s serious development on a fourth film in the buddy cop franchise.

“I am working on Rush Hour 4 right now with Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan,” Sarkissian said. “I’m trying to do it closer to how I did Rush Hour 1, more down to earth, more gritty, introduce two new characters and make it real the way the first one was. I personally was not happy with the third one. I thought 1 and 2 were very good. I think 3 got out of hand a little bit. It’s not a matter of just bringing them back to do another segment of that or a sequel to it by putting them in another city and having them bicker. I don’t want that. I want something new.”

Two new characters, like younger cops to whom Chris and Jackie could hand the franchise off? Not necessarily, Sarkissian said.

“Maybe younger, maybe Chris is now married, maybe Jackie is married to Octavia Spencer, I don’t know. Married to Chris’s cousin, they live in Shanghai, Chris goes out to visit them. I don’t know, I want something energetic.”

Now, I thought I was forgetting a “before they were stars” cameo by Spencer in a previous Rush Hour. Turns out Sarkissian is just pulling that out of his head, and he totally thinks he could get her after her Oscar win. “Absolutely. Why not? If it’s good, script is good you’ll get anybody.”

Sarkissian confirmed Tucker and Chan are interested in returning. He has not settled on a screenwriter yet. “Right now we haven’t decided yet but I’m very close to making a decision. I have about four or five names that we’re roaming on right now.”

Brett Ratner directed the three Rush Hour films. Hinting at his dissatisfaction with Rush Hour 3, Sarkissian was cautious about suggesting Ratner’s involvement. “If he wants to do it he’s more than welcome to do it but he’s got to do it in the right way.”

Chan recently announced that Chinese Zodiac would be his last intense Hong Kong action film, though he will continue to make movies like The Karate Kid with an action component. Sarkissian is sensitive to Chan’s needs, and he doesn’t want to overdo the action anyway.

“He’s getting a little older. I think he can fit it. What was great about Rush Hour 1 and 2 mostly was the relationship of these two and it came out of nowhere. It was just very real. We didn’t build it, we didn’t write it. It just happened. I think the action will be there but it has to be molded to fit him today and not forced into stuff that he won’t do.”

Since Rush Hour is based on the relationship between agents Lee (Chan) and Carter (Tucker), they could presumably have infinite adventures. There’s no closed-ended canon. However, Sarkissian looked to an interesting franchise for inspiration on keeping Rush Hour fresh.

“One of the things that surprised me and actually excited me was how they did Fast Five. They kept the characters, they took them and they put them in a whole different world. They put them in the world of a heist movie and it worked. I think that was brilliant what they did because if you’re not careful, what happens is you just keep repeating yourself. There’s not much you can do. You’ve got to be very careful but that’s where creativity and energy and good thought and a little bit of hard work comes to try and give them something that’s in that world but a little different.”

Of course, you don’t want it to be too different, because then it’s not Rush Hour anymore. “Absolutely not, because you will have the characters, it will be the two of them. They’ve got to be in a world where it’s not just fighting with one another.”

CraveOnline will be back with more on Rush Hour 4 after we sing it again, you all.

Chris Tucker on His First Non-Rush Hour Movie in Fifteen Years, Silver Linings Playbook (http://www.vulture.com/2012/11/chris-tucker-silver-linings-playbook-interview.html)
By Jennifer Vineyard

Take Chris Tucker off your Missing Persons list: The comedian is finally back on the big screen, after fifteen years of making nothing but Rush Hour films, with Silver Linings Playbook. He stars alongside Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence — who play a bipolar dude and depressed widow, respectively — as Danny, also a crazy person who goes in and out of a mental institution. (He also takes part in the movie's very fun dance scenes.) A cynic might say Tucker's return is out of financial necessity, and that might be true, but the comedian attributes his absence to a lack of good roles. He chatted with Vulture about why this movie ended that streak, a return to the Rush Hour franchise, and teaching Jackie Chan to moonwalk.

Why haven't you done a non-Rush Hour film in the last fifteen years?

It's not that often you get a good role with a great director, and that's the main reason I did this, because I knew David O. Russell was a great director, a smart director, and I thought it would be fun to learn from him. Three Kings and The Fighter had great music in them, too, and I thought they were directed so well. But it's mainly about the script. I've been looking for a good script with something different — I didn't want to do the same thing — and nothing really grabbed me until this.

What did you do with all the piles of scripts you got that you didn't like? For example, Vera Farmiga burns hers.

What?! [Laughs] That's a great idea. I'm going to start doing that. I've got a big closet of scripts, and a big stack of scripts on the side of my desk, because you get a whole bunch. Nothing's going to be perfect, and I realize that; but I am a perfectionist, so you go through a lot of stuff. I can't even remember all the ones I was offered, but it was a lot of action, and it just didn't connect with me, and it wasn't what I wanted to do at the time. It didn't move me. This was fresh and different and allowed me to show a different side from the Rush Hour comedies. I mean, this isn't a big role, but it's an important role, and it was on the next level. The subject matter is great, dealing with a character who is bipolar, and my character being in a mental institution. Most of the other scripts I got just required one note from me, versus all the depth to this character. You wonder, Why is he in there? Did he drink too much, or ... ? And then he says that he mixed drugs together and went off. And then there was the bonus that I didn't have to work every day — no pressure! I got to go in there and dance and get out.

The scene where you come in and give Bradley Cooper some pointers on his dance routine is so fun. You could set up shop as a dance instructor!

That was a lot of fun! I think that was my first day, or one of my first days shooting. It was free, and it was a lot of improvisation. "Black it up," that was David O. Russell. "Black it up, dude!" [Dances in his chair to demonstrate] A lot of people like that line. I could give some [lessons]. I got a few good moves. I've actually tried to give Brett Ratner dance lessons, but he thinks he already knows how to. He gets out there and does his thing, [imitates a dance move] and he thinks he's got it.

Does he?

Not really. [Chuckles] I could teach him to look like Bradley Cooper. It would be fun to try to teach Jackie Chan some dance moves. I would teach him to do some Michael stuff, and some hip-hop/rap stuff, because that would make me laugh, because he would do it in a minute. I could teach Jackie Chan to moonwalk. That would be funny.

There's talk of a Rush Hour 4, and a Friday 4. Are you aboard for either?
Rush Hour 4, we're looking into it, me and Jackie [Chan]. We're trying to get it going, so we're developing something, so hopefully we'll get something in.

Rush Hour producer Andrew Sarkissian thought a twist could be for Jackie to marry your character's cousin, and he suggested the cousin could be played by Octavia Spencer.

Yeah! I heard that. I don't know what he's talking about. [Laughs] We really want to take it back to the first one, the realness of it, and explore my character a bit more. Everyone wants to do sequels, though. The rumor got out there that I'm doing Friday 4, but the Internet — they lying! It's kind of crazy. My fans are so hyped up about it and I didn't want to let them down, so at one point I said, "We'll see," but I'm pretty sure now I won't do another one. I'm still fascinated that they love that movie the way they do, and if they do another one, I think it would be good, but I want to do some different stuff. Keep moving.

When you were down in Atlanta to shoot your upcoming stand-up comedy movie, did Jennifer Lawrence invite you on set for Catching Fire? Are you a Hunger Games fan? Team Peeta or Team Gale?

Team Gale! I'm pretty sure she should be with the guy she went hunting with. I can't wait to see the next one. She didn't know I was in Atlanta at the same time, but I would love to go on set with my son. He learned archery because of Hunger Games. He went and got a crossbow. I didn't let him — he just went and got one on his own! Don't worry, he's real careful with it. He won't shoot anyone with it.

I don't think I've seen a good "martial arts" film in years. I don't know which I loathe more the silly American films or the overly-politicized Chinese ones.

How is it that Luc Besson knows how to make better "Martial arts" films than the Chinese? There is something very wrong when Liam Neeson's fight scenes are more interesting than Jet Li's latest snoozers.

Casting his spell at the San Francisco International Film Festival was Bollywood's King Khan Shah Rukh Khan who went live from the venue today. A special tribute was paid to SRK at the film festival where his movie My Name is Khan will also be screened.

As King Khan geared up to have a candid conversation with Hollywood director and producer Brett Ratner, the hall resonated with just one name- Shah Rukh Khan!

However, Brett had some other surprise in store for SRK? Wondering what?

Well, Brett literally surprised Shah Rukh as he connected SRK to Jackie Chan via a video call. An elated SRK told Jackie, "I don't think I have said this before but when my first son was born [Aryan], he looked like Jackie Chan." WOW, this is indeed an interesting revelation!

Overwhelmed by Jackie's gesture, SRK said, "From tonight, I am going to change my name to Shah Rukh Chan." He further added, "I am a huge fan [of Jackie Chan]. This is the greatest moments of my life."

During the chat, Brett was all praises for Shah Rukh Khan and even expressed his desire to work with Shah Rukh in India for the next Rush Hour sequel. He even promised him to give a character role and not a cameo or 5-minute role.

Brett even went on to the extent of saying that SRK is Jackie Chan, Tom Cruise- all in ONE!

The actor also got candid about his passion for cinema, about bringing Bollywood to Hollywood markets and much more.

I'm a huge fan of SRK. Shoot, I've been focused on SVCC (http://svcomiccon.com) so I forgot that SFIFF (http://www.sffilm.org/festival/) was going on.

The legendary Kung Fu actor, Jackie Chan, recently made a visit to the Bay Area, with a pitstop at Google in Mountain View, followed by the San Francisco Chronicle.

While at the SF Chronicle, Chan did a brief live Facebook video interview with Peter Hartlaub, a Chronicle Pop Culture Critic.

One Facebook live viewer asked Jackie Chan if there would be another Rush Hour movie. Chan confirmed to the fan that the script will be done next year and that he will be meeting with the Director and Chris Tucker to go over further details within the week.

https://i2.wp.com/www.jackfroot.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/the-foreigner.jpg?resize=208%2C300

Further, in the interview, Chan discusses some of the early struggles he faced in acting due to the difficulties of learning English. When he wasn’t filming in the US, he continued his acting career in Asia, where he did many other successful films like ‘Rumble in the Bronx’.

Jackie Chan then details his current ambitions of becoming a Producer. Last but not least, he finishes with a mention of his upcoming film, The Foreigner, which releases in America on October 13th.

WHERE IS CHRIS TUCKER? JACKIE CHAN NEEDS HIM FOR 'RUSH HOUR 4' (AND SO DO WE) (http://www.newsweek.com/rush-hour-4-chris-tucker-679505)
BY JANICE WILLIAMS ON 10/6/17 AT 9:39 AM

Ten years have passed since we last saw detectives Young Lee and James Carter taking down the Chinese mafia on the big screen in the Rush Hour franchise. Now, Jackie Chan, who played Lee in the first three movies, is calling on Chris Tucker, his screen partner, to agree to Rush Hour 4.

In an interview with Power 106’s The Cruz Show Wednesday, Chan revealed that there was indeed a Rush Hour 4 in the works. But there is one problem: Tucker has not yet signed on.

“[It’s coming] next year,” Chan said. “For the last seven years, we’ve been turning down the script, turning down the script. Yesterday, we just agreed.”

Although Chan seemed excited to finally have another Rush Hour in the works, he made it clear that if Tucker wasn’t involved, he wouldn’t be either.

“Next year [we’ll] probably start—If Chris Tucker agrees,” he said. “It’s not about money! It’s about [having] time to make. I tell Chris Tucker, ‘Before we get old, please do Rush Hour 4.’”

Despite being 64 years old, Chan does not believe he or his 46-year-old castmate are too old to create another action-packed film. “Rush Hour you can do anytime,” he said.

In their last outing, 2007's Rush Hour 3, the partners were causing mischief in Paris during a mission to find an infamous mob boss. In Rush Hour 2 (2001), they were causing trouble in Lee’s native Hong Kong after an explosion at the U.S. embassy killed two Customs agents. And before that, when the unconventional duo was first teamed together, they were tearing up the streets of L.A. to find a Chinese diplomat's daughter who had been kidnapped.

Tucker, once one of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood, has kept a low profile in recent years. With the buddy-cop franchise and the classic Friday under his belt, the former Def Comedy Jam icon seems to enjoy staying out of the spotlight, appearing on screen occasionally in small roles like Danny in 2012’s Silver Linings Playbook. In 2015, he re-emerged briefly for his own stand-up special on Netflix.

During an interview with the Los Angeles Times ahead of his Chris Tucker Live Netflix special, the actor said he’s still been hard at work.

“I went back to my roots,” Tucker said. "Having a lot of fun. It's been great doing what I wanted to do. I never stop working. I'm always on the road, honing my craft. I'm touring around the world: Australia, the Middle East, Asia, Malaysia, Singapore.”

He added, “There were also the charitable things when I wasn't filming. I got to travel with Bill Clinton through Africa, which was an incredible experience. You get this success and other people invite you to do things and take these trips. I'm glad I said, 'I'm going to Africa and learn what's going on in the world.' It shaped me as a person and shaped my life going forward.”

If Tucker was to join the Rush Hour 4 cast, it would be his first time in a leading role since Rush Hour 3.

It amuses me how much the media go nuts for this sequel. Of all the Jackie films...

Chan gave a radio interview Thursday in which he teased that a Rush Hour 4 in very much in the works — the first misadventure in the series since 2007. “For the last seven years, we’ve been turning down the script, turning down the script,” Chan told L.A. outlet Power 106’s The Cruz Show. “Yesterday, we just agreed.”

Chan, who was on the air promoting his newest film, STX’s October 13 opener The Foreigner with Pierce Brosnan, also said: “The script probably at the end of this month will have a second draft, and next year, probably [we will] start. I hope — if Chris Tucker agrees.”

The original Rush Hour grossed $244 million worldwide for New Line Cinema and cemented the Hong Kong-born Chan as an English-language action star, after he had broken through in the U.S. with 1994’s Rumble in the Bronx. Its success led to his pairing with Owen Wilson for 2000’s Shanghai Noon, which spawned a sequel two years later. The buddy-cop action-comedy Rush Hour series with Tucker continued with Rush Hour 2 ($347M WW in 2001) and Rush Hour 3 ($258M, 2007). Brett Ratner directed all three.

Video of the full 14-minute interview is above; the Rush Hour talk starts at 2:20.

Jackie Chan hypes up Rush Hour 4, threatens to kill off Chris Tucker to make it happen (http://shanghaiist.com/2017/10/11/jackie-chan-rush-hour-sequel.php)

It's been ten years since the last Rush Hour movie opened in theaters to the universal disgust of critics but relative enthusiasm from moviegoers, making $258 million at the box office. Now, Jackie Chan is looking to get the band back together for a sequel.
The 63-year-old actor and self-defense instructor tried to stir up some hype for Rush Hour 4 during an appearance yesterday on the Today Show to promote his latest martial arts flick, The Foreigner. During that broadcast, and another appearance following it on Live with Kelly and Ryan, Chan repeatedly tried to bully his former co-star Chris Tucker into signing onto a sequel, threatening that if he does not, the new movie will open with his funeral.
"If you're not going to do it, the beginning of the movie: funeral, he died," Chan said. "His son take over."

Chan first teased Rush Hour 4 in a radio interview last Thursday, saying that he had already agreed to a script and was just waiting for his partner-in-crime-fighting to sign on as well.
"For the last seven years we've been turning down the script, turning down the script... yesterday we just agreed. Probably end of this month they'll have a second draft. Next year, they'll probably start, I hope -- if Chris Tucker agrees," Chan said.
In the first Rush Hour film, Chan played a dedicated Hong Kong detective who is teamed up with a loud, over-the-top LAPD detective, played by Tucker, and tasked with rescuing the Chinese consul's kidnapped daughter. The premise made for a bearable action-comedy that was even somewhat enjoyable at points. However, not so much for the sequels, which stretched the premise thin and repeated gags and jokes from the first movie with limited success. There is likely little hope that a fourth movie would help to redeem the series.

A decade ago, Chan also blamed his buddy Tucker with delaying Rush Hour 3, which took six long years to come out. Since the turn of the century, Tucker has only acted in four movies: Rush Hour 2, Rush Hour 3, Silver Linings Playbook and Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk.

Chris Tucker has confirmed that they’ve finally got a script for Rush Hour 4 that they are happy with. Jackie Chan had previously confirmed that he had agreed to star in the project while speaking on The Cruz Show, but nothing materialised. Now, Chris has confirmed that the movie is on its way and he hopes it’ll be the best ever. Speaking on ESPN’s podcast, The Plug, he confirmed that Rush Hour 4 will be hitting cinemas. ‘It’s happening. This is gonna be the rush of all rushes. Jackie is ready and we want to do this so that people don’t ever forget it,’ he said. Last year Chan said: ‘For the last seven years, we’ve been turn[ing] down. turn[ing] down the script. But yesterday we agreed.’

Forgive my skepticism (we all gotta be skeptical nowadays because who knows when we're reading posts from Russian bots) but I'll believe this when it gets reported by the trade journals.

EXCLUSIVE: STX Studios: Female ‘RUSH HOUR’ Reboot in the Works (http://www.thathashtagshow.com/2019/03/05/exclusive-stx-studios-female-rush-hour-reboot-in-the-works/)
Skyler Shuler March 5, 2019

Female centric reboots are becoming the big thing. We have already seen Ghostbusters, Ocean’s 8, and What Men Want. A female-centric 21 Jump Street is also in the works, but that’s not the only buddy-cop franchise getting the female reboot treatment.

We have learned that STX studios are in early development on a female-centric reboot of the popular action comedy Rush Hour.

https://i2.wp.com/redcarpetreporttv.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Rush-Hour-on-CBS-premieres-March-31st-at-10-PM.jpg?fit=800%2C303&ssl=1

Details on the series are being kept under-wraps at this time. However, we have learned that the studio has offered one of the leading roles to The Meg star Bingbing Li, in the Jackie Chan role. No details to who would star opposite Li.

It is not known at this time if the long-awaited Rush Hour 4 will still happen. Back in January, The films co-star Chris Tucker shared an update on the project.

“We’re working on a few things on the script right now, so we’re trying to get into production, but we’re working on it and trying to get it going. Jackie Chan wants to do it, I want to do it, the studio wants to do it, so we’re trying to get it together. I was definitely down as long as it comes together right – and it looks like it’s coming together right.”

The three previous Rush Hour films were a success at the box office. Grossing a combined $850 million at the worldwide box office. In 2016, CBS took Rush Hour to the small screen with Justin Hires and Jon Foo in the respective roles made famous by Tucker and Chan. The series was cancelled after one season.

Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan hint at potential Rush Hour 4

Fans have been anxiously waiting for James Carter and Yang Lee to reunite on the big screen for another action-packed adventure and after years of discussions and hints, stars Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan have reunited in a seeming tease for Rush Hour 4.

The 47-year-old actor took to Instagram this morning with a photo showing his reunion with his 65-year-old co-star and, while no caption was featured with the photo, the two were seen arms around each other and holding up the number four, creating a huge debate as to if the film is finally coming to fruition.

Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker started making audiences laugh with the films back in 1998. We got our second film in 2001 and the third in 2007, with the first three films grossing $850.6 million at the worldwide box office. There were rumblings about Rush Hour 4 back in 2012, but it came to nothing. Last year, Jackie Chan spoke about a possible fourth installment, saying that it’s likely to happen.

“For the last seven years, we’ve been turning down the script, turning down the script,” Chan told Power 106 Los Angeles. “Yesterday, we just agreed… the script, probably end of this month. They’re on the second draft. Next year, probably start. I hope. If Chris Tucker agrees.” He also said, “It’s not about money. It’s about time to make, otherwise… Rush Hour 4, we’re all like old men! Before we get old. I tell Chris Tucker, before we get old, please, do Rush Hour 4!”

Should a fourth Rush Hour go forward, it will likely be with a new filmmaker behind the camera, as original trilogy director Brett Ratner is facing numerous allegations of sexual harassment and has severed ties with Warner Bros., the parent company behind the franchise’s studio New Line Cinema.

Jackie Chan made a rare on-stage appearance at the Red Sea Film Festival Thursday, where he told fans that he is currently in talks to make a fourth Rush Hour movie.

“We’re talking about part 4 right now,” he told the festival crowd, adding that he was going to meet with the film’s director this evening to discuss the script. He did not identify said director, but American filmmaker Brett Ratner directed all three previous versions.

Ratner hasn’t directed a film since 2014. In November 2017, seven women, including actresses Olivia Munn and Natasha Henstridge, accused the filmmaker of sexual harassment and misconduct, causing Warner Bros. to sever all ties with the producer-director with whom they had a lucrative deal.

Chan starred in three Rush Hour films between 1998 and 2007 alongside comedian and actor Chris Tucker. The franchise follows a Hong Kong detective inspector who forms an unlikely relationship with a loudmouthed LAPD officer to solve a series of international crimes.

The original Rush Hour grossed $244 million worldwide for New Line Cinema and cemented the Hong Kong-born Chan as an English-language action star. However, Chan said that he expected the film to bomb at the box office, and he had planned to quit Hollywood for good due to the lack of interesting roles he had been receiving.

“I tried so many times to go to Hollywood, but after that, I said no more Hollywood because my English is not good, they’re not my culture, they don’t like this kind of action,” he said.

Chan said he only received scripts about East Asian detectives in America, but he was keen to expand his creative endeavors when the script for Rush Hour passed his desk.

“My manager said look, there’s a script, and it’s called Rush Hour. I said no, Hong Kong police? I’m not going to do it. He said Jackie, why don’t you try last time. I said okay, this is the last time.”

After the first film was released, Chan said he received a call from Ratner and Tucker, who said, “Dude, we’re a huge success. We’re 70 million in the first weekend.”

“For me, I don’t have a count of what 70 million is. I don’t know the box office. I just know its certainly a success. And then they made part 2 and part 3,” he added.

Later during the keynote, Chan spoke about his start in the movie business as a stuntman for Bruce Lee, who he said took a liking to him on the set of Fist of Fury and would often cast him in overtime shifts so that he could clock extra pay from the production.

Chan also told the audience that 2022 marks his 60th anniversary in the film business.

However, despite his long and successful career as an action star, Chan told the festival crowd that he plans on making “less action stories, more love stories” in the future, and he is currently prepping a project which he described as a “drama film for women.”

“I hope very soon it can release here,” he told the audience. “It’s a drama film. And it’s made for women. I hope one day you can see it.”
