Our official Kung Fu Tai Chi Magazine facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Kung-Fu-Tai-Chi-Magazine/135964689362) just crossed 10,000 likes. We were anticipating crossing this milestone with KFTC 20 YEARS (http://ezine.kungfumagazine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=61402), as we are posting about 100 photos a day there now, and that always gives us a bump.

Note: We don't advertise on facebook. We get our 'likes' without those promotions.

That's 1K+ in just two months. Thanks for your support, everyone!

GeneChing

Another two months, another 1K of likes. And still, not a cent spent on fb advertising.

Congrats, Gene-o! By the way I just saw the KFTC20 interview Jenna Davi did of Grandmaster Chiu Chi Ling (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=js2-dOdGHlM&list=PL4E2B154D13318924). Is there anyway you could introduce her to me on my next visit to LA, bro? You rock, bro! Thanks!!!!

It took a little longer for this next K, more like three months than the previous two. I'm guessing that's because of some of the recent changes with fb and how we show up on the newsfeeds. But still, not a cent spent on promotion there. Thanks again for your support everyone!

Four months to the next thousand. Will we cross 15K by the end of the year? Hopefully sooner, with all of your help. Thanks again for your support, fb (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Kung-Fu-Tai-Chi-Magazine/135964689362) users!

no cats?

:o

GeneChing
07-22-2013, 10:24 AM
You know, I can only think of three times offhand when cats ever appeared in our publications (except for tigers (https://www.tigerclaw.com/home.php) of course).

1995 Winter (http://ezine.kungfumagazine.com/magazine/article.php?article=266): Shaolin and Immortal's blood Heaven's Chi Dim Mak By James Lacy and Lindsay Anglen. This article had a long seated qigong photo demonstration and this white cat sits down right in front of Lacy for many of the shots. It's a total feline photo bomb.

1999 October (http://ezine.kungfumagazine.com/magazine/article.php?article=101): In the Publisher's Corner, editor Martha Burr had photos of her cats because this was an Animal styles themed issue. Martha loves cats.

There was also a photo of my cat getting acupuncture, but I can't remember which issue that was in right now and I can't figure out how to tease that out of our search engine. :o

It should be noted that cat photos in print don't have nearly the viral power of cat photos on the web.

GeneChing

I missed posting our 15K milestone here because I was distracted by some cat videos. :o

:D unfortunately, I am just not that dedicated....I'd like to take credit, I really would, because im a glory wh0re like that. But hey, congrats, that is a lot of attention.

any idea what may have spiked the interest?

GeneChing
09-23-2013, 08:33 AM
Lucas, dear friend, you could make a living on the web generating 'likes'. It's probably a more profitable endeavor than knife making. ;)

My guess is that it has been the meme cards that drove the viral bump. That was my intention when developing those from the beginning. We publish them on facebook when an issue (http://ezine.kungfumagazine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=66421) is nearing the end of its run on the newsstand, both for the facebook promo and a sort of 'last chance on the newsstand' effort. It really took off this time. :)

I just shot my last facebook meme for the Sep+Oct 2013 issue (http://ezine.kungfumagazine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=66421&page=2). So we'll see if our meteoric rise dies down a little. Notably, a lot of our new facebook likes are coming from Central and South America. I have to brush up on mi espanol.

Thanks for the TC like, MightyB. We may well need to resort to cat memes to pump that page up. :o

Photos: Snoopybabe is China's answer to Maru and Grumpy Cat (http://shanghaiist.com/2013/10/07/snoopybabe_is_chinas_answer_to_maru_and_grumpy_cat .php)

http://shanghaiist.com/upload/2013/10/snoopycat-5.jpg

Look at that face. Look at that ridiculous face. Snoopybabe the cat, based in Chengdu, Sichuan province, is China's greatest contribution to the internet's cat industrial complex.

With over 275,000 fans on Weibo, and a further 190,000 on Instagram, Snoopybabe is well on the way to stardom. The only question that remains is: will his owner choose the crass commercialism of Grumpy Cat, or the respectable pseudonymity of Maru.

More pix if you follow the link. You know you want to, Mighty B.

40K by the end of the week hopefully.

And next week, we'll have a fresh fat photo album.

38,901 to be exact. With the new article we just posted (http://ezine.kungfumagazine.com/ezine/article.php?article=1126), I daresay we'll have 39K by day's end.

Onward! To 50,000!

:)

GeneChing
10-15-2013, 08:25 AM
I daresay 44 by the afternoon.

I missed the last 3K because I was offline for four days. As most of you know already, I was at the Shaolin Temple Cultural Festival (http://ezine.kungfumagazine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=65650). We have a ton of pix that we will be dropping on our fb album soon, which should continue to make our fb page blow up. So I hoping to reach my 50K goal by the end of the week.

GeneChing
10-16-2013, 09:42 AM
I don't know when we crossed past 44 as I got engaged in other tasks yesterday afternoon.

GeneChing
10-17-2013, 09:18 AM
Probably 47K by this afternoon. 50K when? This weekend maybe. :)

GeneChing
10-17-2013, 12:24 PM
Before lunch even. :D

GeneChing
10-21-2013, 09:43 AM
We crossed that milestone over the weekend.

Onward to 60K! (although I'll be delighted when we cross 54K - hopefully this week - you'll know why then).

GeneChing
10-22-2013, 08:12 AM
Probably 52K by the afternoon. :)

GeneChing
10-23-2013, 08:53 AM
And we're well enough into 53K that we've achieved the number I was hoping to cross 3 posts up. We now have more facebook likes than Black Belt.

GeneChing
10-23-2013, 01:45 PM

I read this article on the Internet Cat Video Film Festival in the NYT this morning and thought of you, MightyB. It's not posted on their site yet, but here's an NYP article (follow the link for internet cat vids).

Film fest set to fete Internet cat videos (http://nypost.com/2013/10/24/internet-cat-video-film-festival-arrives-in-brooklyn/)
By Lindsay Putnam
October 24, 2013 | 12:02pm

It was sheer luck that Lisa Vallez had a video recorder on hand when one of her rescue kittens, Albert, decided to take a swipe at a dog 10 times his size. She posted the 28-second clip on YouTube in 2007, never expecting it to rack up the over 645,000* views it has today.

“I’ve posted other videos of our cats before, but that one took off,” the Greenpoint resident says about her viral video, “Little Kitten Challenges Big Dog!”

Welcome to the world of Internet cat stardom, where web sensations such as Grumpy Cat and Lil’ Bub reign supreme. So popular have these feline-focused clips become, that on Friday, Oct. 25, Brooklyn’s Warsaw Theater is set to host the New York premiere of the Internet Cat Video Film Festival. Here are five local entrants seeking feline fame tomorrow…

The Internet Cat Video Film Festival is on Friday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m, 261 Driggs Ave., Brooklyn. 718-387-0505. Admission: $20. All viewing numbers correct at time of publication.

anyway - congrats on the likes. The hard part is to figure a way to convert them to moniez paying customers.

GeneChing

Maybe 60K+ by hump day. ;)

GeneChing

It's hump day and it'll be a push to make it to 60K by day's end, but it could happen. Either way, it'll be a nice Halloween treat.

Worthy of note - facebook has now surpassed our forum here for page views per day. We're even starting to get trolls there now, but as facebook isn't as conducive for dialog (a.k.a. flame wars), the trolls are pretty weak by comparison. The trolls with the strongest Kung Fu remain here. ;)

I'm also going to stop updating this thread with every 1000. It's been dominating this subforum too much lately. From now on, I'll only update with every 5000 milestone.

Thanks again, everyone on facebook, for your continued support.

I've so lost track of our fb milestones. As it's grown larger than the forum here, patrolling it is sucking up a lot of my time now. And facebook's admin is pretty clunky. But as the forum will be down this week for maintenance, it'll be all about fb.

239k+!

As we were offline for two weeks, I haven't been able to update this until now.

You guys should consider developing a facebook app. A game would probably blow the eff up with those potential user base #s.

I might know a guy.

GeneChing
12-14-2013, 09:57 AM
That's an intriguing suggestion, wenshu. Maybe it can involve cats too.

Personally, I hate those games and block the all. I'm just not into it. But I can see the viability. We just don't have a designer on staff and our budget is dedicated to other things. I will keep it in mind, however. I didn't realize that's how those games were designed. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

Apparently facebook deleted a ton of phantom likes. I've heard if you don't visit a liked site every once in a while, you get deleted. Not sure if that cost us 2K in likes but we're back to where we were in February.
