Thanks Glenn- a good essay and great films.Interesting that Louis had no films of Godoy to watch.
His short upper cuts were deadly-under the chin of Godoy. Right strategy against an advancing crouching fighter. Note also that Joe's feet are always balanced

Tyson had short uppercuts with either hand -dropped Buster Douglas with one but Douglas later got him with an uppercut of his own-
Good wing chun at very close quarters can have a short upper cut via chum kiu- one has to work on body coordination and footwork for it.

Yep, those old-timers didnt have the advantage of video's of previous fights. They had to think on their feet first time against a fresh opponent.

Balanced and subtle is how id describe his footwork. He makes small, yet deliberate, moves all the time which is the key to his balance.

How WC should be IMO

You betchum... but as the essay points out-it has it's risks...that can be mitigated.
