EXERCISE FOR PEOPLE OVER 50

1. Begin by standing on a comfortable surface, where you have plenty of room at each side.

2. With a 5-lb potato bag in each hand, extend your arms straight out from your sides and hold them there as long as you can.
Try to reach a full minute, and then relax.

3. Each day you'll find that you can hold this position for just a bit longer.

After a couple of weeks, move up to 10-lb potato bags.

4. Then try 50-lb potato bags and then eventually try to get to where you can lift a 100-lb potato bag in each hand and hold your arms straight for more than a full minute.

(I'm at this level.)

5. After you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each bag.

What useful ability does one get from that other than increasing their ability to hold a static position for time? I don't see anyone really needing that ability, whether over 50 or not.

I mean, I guess it's better than nothing.

Also you can't just linearly increase the weights up to 50 or 100 pounds. Adaptation doesn't work that way. That's why almost everything in that 72 Consummate Arts book is nonsense.

Unless this was a troll post under the "why you shouldn't take strength advice from TMAists" category, in which case, lol, good post.

...and Ten Tigers reels one in!!

:)

And he did it without physical contact.

Just wait until he starts putting potatoes in the bags :)

I have a question though. How long should I stay doing the last stage of the exercises (step 4) before moving on? I'm struggling to lift a potato with my left hand.

Oh, I'm in my 30s, by the way.

You can use french fries or tater tots before advancing to entire potatoes.

Where does one find a 100# potato bag?

Can I use a 100# banana bag or 100# eggplant bag instead?

And just what are these bags made out of to weigh 100#?

Lucas

Also, does that mean that the 100# banana bag is made out of bananas?

And what about the 100# eggplant bag, is it made out of eggs, plants or eggplants?

Lucas
