It seems there is a hunyuan taiji guy about 30 minutes from me that is willing to teach me one Saturday a month because of our conflicting schedules.

It's the only Kung fu within 2 hours of here. Worth it?

If he is higher level then you, and knows how to teach, can't hurt.

:)Are you still in Fayetteville? If you have any interest in Yau Kung Mun or Bak Mei, I would be happy to work with you on the weekends...

Isn't it incredible how TKD has penetrated every populated corner of the modern world and TCMAs are still pretty rare in a lot of the rural USA?

Yes, that Fayetteville!

What the heck how long have you been here!? I've been looking for kung fu in this area for about 10 years

I don't live in Fayetteville, but I am not that far away. Seriously, if you are looking for Yau Kung Mun, Bak Mei, or Chi Gung, let me know. I am not a ringer or anything like that, but I enjoy to train, teach, and learn.

What kind of training are you looking for?

If he's good at pushhands I believe you could learn a lot. Grandmaster Feng was simply awesome by all accounts. My 2€

it's an interesting form, which I would consider worth studying if the opportunity presented itself

This look like Chen Taiji to me.

You should ask yourself the following questions:

- Will this be "enhancement" or "distraction"?
- Is this "for health" or "for combat"?
- Do I truly want to learn a new system?
- ...

In case it's interesting, here is a version of the 24 form that is in between the HunYuan 24 form you linked to and traditional Chen style.

Comparing those two you can see steps of development of HunYuan.

The guy teaching is a student of Richard Johnson via Chen Zhonghua.

So I imagine it would have this flavor:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVPN4HCLfKs

If he's teaching the Hunyuan form it would surprise me if it included the shaking with the fajin.

What I've recently been taught is that the big circles were added to make it easier for beginners to understand aspects of the movement that are very small and hard to see in the execution of Yilu. A side effect is that the open large style with the big circles feels pleasurable and relaxing in a special way.

But this was in the context of the transitional 24 form I linked above, not fully developed Hunyuan.
