Does anyone know anything about this school:

http://www.loongshin.com/

I have a buddy who lives near there and is interested in studying. The site does not emphasize their 7 Star training. Though a web site should never be used to define the worth of a school they made a comment which I found suspect:

"7 star praying mantis which is an offshoot of the Shaolin system. This style employs upper body hand work of the mantis, leg work of monkey style, and additional components from 17 other Shaolin systems. Although 170 forms exist in mantis kung fu today, when originally developed there were only 3. We focus on a small portion of mantis forms in our curriculium."

Does this seem odd to you guys?

I admit I know VERY little about mantis myself so any help would be appreciated.

Thanx in advance

If we counted all the legitimate PM forms of all the different branches then 170 is a good ballpark figure. Also, many PM schools have incorporated forms from other styles into their system.

All the info in your quotation marks can be found on other PM websites. So I don't see any reason to think it strange.

I found a few odd things on that site:

On: http://www.loongshin.com/sifucordisco.html

"Sifu Damian Cordisco has attained a Black Sash in Shaolin Kung Fu from the Wu Kung Chinese Martial Arts Association."

Yet on: http://www.loongshin.com/instruct.html

"*Anyone not listed on this page has not been authorized to instruct by the Loong Shin Kung Fu and Tai Chi Association or the Wu Kung Martial Arts Association."

The page only contains what appear to be students of Sifu Damian Cordisco.

Hmm... so it looks like Sifu Damian Cordisco is himself the head of the Wu Kung Chinese Martial Arts Association... did he grant himself that black sash?

Probably he's fine, but you were asking about whether anything was odd on that site...
