Happy Easter!

We woke up to a really fierce thunderstorm with accompanied hail so I hope the one you had wasn't as bad.

All I did today was finish mulching 5 newly planted trees, 3 Choctaw Pecans, 1 Texas Everbearing Fig and a Pomegranate. After that I took a nice walk with my lovely wife and little boy. Now we are just waiting for the pot roast to finish up. Yum yum!!!

Did you wear your sandals or opt for boots due to inclimate weather?:)

I wore my Birkenstocks for about 15 years until they wore out and I never purchased another pair. In high school I wore flip flops my entire 4 years, and during P.E. I went barefoot unless we played on the gym floor or asphalt!

That is why I am so interested in your farm footwear!:D;)

I owned a pair of Birks about 10 years ago but I never thought they were very comfortable so I kicked them to the curb. For working around the farm I usually opt for the Vasque hiking boots because they are tough and comfy. For the creek and other muddy work I have a pair of Muck boots with roll up over the knee waders and for the really deep stuff and wet weather hunting I have a pair of Cabela's Dry-Plus™ Millennium Hunting Wader Jeans. For everyday walking around I go with a low cut version of the Vasque Breeze, Keene sandals or the Merrell Ventilator. For running it's New Ballance or if on really rough stuff I use the merrells.

Mary Jane Sazon remains calm while she is nailed on a wooden cross as part of Good Friday rituals in the village of San Pedro Cutud, Pampanga province, northern Philippines, Friday, April 19 [ + ]

SAN PEDRO CUTUD, Philippines (AP) — Several Roman Catholic devotees were nailed to wooden crosses in a gory Good Friday ritual in the Philippines, and others flogged themselves or took part in religious plays to reenact Jesus Christ’s suffering.

Four men and a woman, some wearing crowns of twigs, were escorted by villagers dressed as Roman centurions and nailed to crosses on a dusty hill in San Pedro Cutud village. Similar reenactments played out in nearby farming towns in the northern Philippines.

Thousands, including many tourists, watch the annual spectacle. The Catholic Church frowns upon it, instead calling on the faithful to mark Lent with prayers and acts of charity.

“We’re from Poland, so it’s also a Catholic country but there is nothing like that. It’s much more peaceful and quiet,” said visitor Magdalena Tyburcy.

Prior to the reenacted crucifixions, dozens of barefoot penitents beat their bare backs with sharp bamboo sticks and wood. Some had their backs with razors cut to keep them bloody.

Sterilized nails are used in the rituals, and after they are lowered from the crosses, the devotees are checked by medical workers to make sure they are no complications from their injuries.

Painter Ruben Enaje, 59, was nailed to the cross for the 33rd time as part of giving thanks after surviving a fall from a building.

“Next year, I’m going to be a senior. Our bones are a bit different, you start to get hurt. I’ll just pass down (this tradition) to someone younger than me,” he said.

Another regular, Mary Jane Sazon, marked her 16th time on the cross.

“When I do this devotion, my prayers come true. Then I stopped. I started having health problems again, so I joined the crucifixion again. I felt that through my devotion, whatever illness I feel goes away,” said Sazon.

The Philippines is Asia’s largest Catholic nation.

Other Lent traditions include street plays with devotees reenacting the Way of the Cross and a marathon chanting of the Pasyon, a Philippine narrative of the suffering of Christ.

Since Easter is on Sunday, this thread is often overlooked. However, the pandemic has made me lose any sense of weekends and holidays (I totally forgot that this was Easter until Good Friday), so here I am, wishing you all well. :)
