Martial arts ace Donnie Yen will face off against mainland China's Lost In Thailand star Wang Baoqing in Last Of The Best (一個人的武林), it was announced today.
The contemporary action thriller set in Hong Kong and Foshan, China, is to be directed by Teddy Chen on a budget of $25 million.
Production gets underway later this month with delivery set for Summer 2014.
The screenplay is by Chen, Lau Ho-leung and Mak Tin-shu.It sees Yen star as Xia, a former martial arts instructor of the Police Academy who is imprisoned after he accidentally kills a man during a private altercation. When a vicious killer Feng (Wang) starts targeting martial arts masters in Hong Kong, Xia offers his help to the police in return for his freedom.
The film also stars Charlie Young and Bai Bing.
"Last of the Best is able to put the traditional martial arts philosophy into a contemporary setting which, to many, is what Donnie represents," said Albert Lee, CEO of Emperor Motion Pictures in a statement.
