Hello,

I am in the process of uploading some new clips to Youtube.

The first clip is the late Master Fung Chun talking about his teachers Gongfu. The late Master Fung Chun was the last disciple of Wong Wah Sam. Wong Wah Sam was Leung Jan's nephew and heir in Gulao.

Enjoy:

The pin sun stuff is interesting to me.

In the MMA circles I travel there's an ongoing debate and modification to fighting stances between a more pure boxing stance (which is more side facing) and a muy thai stance (which is more front facing). The debate has to do with having more striking elements online in a front facing stance to a little more reach in a side facing stance. Also in play are defensive elements to protect against takedowns.

Whatever elements of this debate, discussion, experimentation that have gone on before from the ancestors of wing chun who actually fought are very interesting to me.

In a nutshell:

Wong Wah Sam was very small. (JJR Note: 4' 11"/98lbs) His Gongfu was intense. He would join, cycle under, cycle over, cycle out to in and in to out etc.. Always twisting/angling sideways (San Ying).

Not exact but close enough!

Enjoy

Cool. This reminds me of Ricardo De La Riva in BJJ. Little guy grew up in a big guy academy with everyone always bulling in on him, smash pass, etc. So he invented a guard that redirects the opponents bull smash offline from the center of the body to the side.

In your experience with pin san methods, is that one of it's advantages - redirection of a crash forward force offline?

We have crash prevention too but not by rotating.

In Pin Sun we always use rotational force with everything. So even when a strong straight line attacking action is coming towards us we can go directly into the target with a multi-directional counterattack. The twisting combined with direct has a shearing effect. There is a huge (did I say HUGE) misconception with Pin Sun. That would be we only try to avoid attack/force by angling. This is false.

I will use our turning as an example. We rotate on point. When shifting the body does not swing out of the way. Rotate on point to deliver long, medium & close force/boxing. I am only 5'5"/138lbs, the style is particularly useful for smaller people.

Hope this helps!

Gotta run....

That clip may be "longer" but nothing short of awful...

Compare Fung Sifu body action and lively hand movements to what they are doing. Different animal!

BTW: Thats Lu Jan demo'ing their fusion of Gulao & Taiji...

If I was to say Lu Jan had a formal baisi with Fung Chun would I be causing trouble?

Nice clip from you Jim (again) but FWIW I kinda enjoyed Lu Jans stuff too, regardless if it's his own hybrid or not. Everyone seems to be on that path these days which brings both positive and negative views...

Lu Jan is Fung Keung's student. He actually lives at his school in Shaping Town. I also performed basi ceremony with Master Fung but was/am taught/trained by Mui Sifu. Get the point?

Ah Keung has fused Taiji w/Gulao. Notice the same exact stuff being showed by his teacher: :(

*There is very little Pin Sun boxing being demo'd by them in their applications/chi sao IMO...

Yes that sounds plausible especially to me so thanks for the info.

I have noticed that there are very few guys from the area actually demonstrated any applications but are almost over keen to extend and change the sets and interactive practises. FWIW Keung Sifu still moves nicely in his forms with a good flow and it would be great to see some sansau at some point.

Hi Jim, I was just looking at some videos about Fung Keung, what is your opinion on these? Is this fused as well?

Fung Chun has the correct flavor.

Compare his crispy actions to his sons.

Similar moves but different animal........

It's a shame there is far too little of the late Fung Chun available for everyone to see because this clip is very old and of poor quality... this was when the infamous Leung Ting dragged him out of hiding lol!

Still nice to see again.
