WTF news for the week...

A jury in Bexar County, Texas just acquitted Ezekiel Gilbert of charges that he murdered a 23-year-old Craigslist escort—agreeing that because he was attempting to retrieve the $150 he'd paid to Lenora Ivie Frago, who wouldn't have sex with him, his actions were justified.

Gilbert had admitted to shooting Frago in the neck on Christmas Eve 2009, when she accepted $150 from Gilbert and left his home without having sex with him. Frago, who was paralyzed by the shooting, died several months later.

Gilbert's defense argued that the shooting wasn't meant to kill, and that Gilbert's actions were justified, because he believed that sex was included as part of the fee. Texas law allows people "to use deadly force to recover property during a nighttime theft."

The 30-year-old hugged his defense attorneys after the "not guilty" verdict was read by the judge. If convicted, he could have faced life in prison. He thanked God, his lawyers, and the jury for being able to "see what wasn't the truth."

....something tells me that if he shot a retail worker the ruling would of been totally different.. Nighttime theft? Really? That's a serious stretch.......

I personally feel more threatened when I get robbed and it's a bit dark out. Better to be attacked in the day, cause you know.... then you know it's not a vampire or something. Common sense!!!

Christians seem to be afraid of sex and the dark, so this all makes complete sense.

I actually know a story about a vampire and an attempted robbery :p

Actually they approved of shooting AT someone who is stealing from you. Since this is lawful in Texas.

In Texas you may use deadly force to stop someone from stealing your property when it is night time. Why only night time I do not know!

The defense argued that the killing part was incidental rather than intentional and apparently the jury agreed.

As far as shooting at a retail clerk? Stealing is stealing no matter who you are!

"Whoops, sorry I killed you there... Just meant to shoot off an arm or a leg!"

LOL, I'm not saying I agreed with it, only, apparently, the jury bought the story. It does make one wonder how bright the jury is though. How dumb do you have to be to not know that shooting AT someone has the highest likelihood of being fatal? At the very least it should be reckless homicide.

And murder is murder, but when a hooker turns up dead we don't use the same resources as we would when it's some wealthy white guy. We just go "well, she chose a dangerous job". Not a good look.

I have heard it speculated that she may have thought of herself as an actual escort and not a hooker which would explain why she tried to leave, although it would have been wise to return his money.

Well that depends. If he said "I want my money back" and that's all... I don't blame for being like "ummmmm.... No!" But, I mean, if he drew on her and she still said no, well... natural selection is a ***** like that. But it sounds like they argued and she left and he clipped her while she was leaving. She prolly didn't even see it coming.

No matter what, the guy is a douchebag. I wouldn't kill anyone over 150 bucks. Especially if I didn't feel threatened. So basically thius guy is either a cold blooded killer or an absolute *****made *****. That's how I see it anyways.

And honestly, if it had been some middle class white girl delivering pizza that stole from him, or wouldn't return money for unsatisfactory goods/denial of service, the verdict would have been different. I can almost hear the defence marginalizing this woman as I type. You know how it is. We all know there's like an 80% chance I'm right.

It's also a fair assumption that some of this heated gun rights bull**** that is ever so present in the public consciousness played at least some role.

People say 9/11 was the most successful terrorist attack because of the money and bodies that were lost. I disagree... The biggest damage was on the American psyche. Look how much you guys have given up since that day. Every time the US erodes it's values to compensate for this war on terror, check one in the win box for al qaeda.
