1) FWIW, the striking bars are supposed to be made out of copper.

2) He glossed over the Chi Kung portion, which is the important part.

3) There's no point in striking your head.

4) Have you begun your IP/IB training yet, Iron Fist?

Why copper?

He said somewhere on his website that the steel ones should be wrapped in cling wrap so they don't contact your skin cuz over time you can absorb toxins or something.

On his website there are some pics of his hands. His knuckles look a little enlarged. Do you think that's from iron hand training?

Greetings,

It appears that the person was well liked enough to be shown something good. Considering what was shared to him he must be a really good guy and dedicated. He did clearly address the chi kung component. It just was not shown. He did not mention meditation. That does not mean that he does not do it.

I did visit his page and observed a form he performed. Though it was not great, his punches have some serious oomph to them.

Re Knuckles: I thought his wooden dummy training helped achieve that look.

And speaking of knowledge, I have found that I have to get what I need from overseas.

The great thing about Iron Shirt/Iron Body, is it acknowledges the reality that you will get struck in combat.

Do you need to be referred to the official Ameri Do Te stance on Ninjitsu?

The reason his knuckles are enlarged and the hands looked "F'ed up" is because he doesn't use Jow or at least, good Jow.
My hands used to be bad from years of makiwara and bag work but the moment I started IP and using Jow, they look much better.

As for the rest, well, IB is something that every MA that deals with actual full contact fighting does ( in one form or another).

Not the greatest description or demo, but that is part and parcel to the legit iron body training.

Ive always wondered if this kind of training can cause blood clots and strokes?

Yes it can. Don't do it without proper Chi Gong / San Gong training.

Well, technically it is the blood clot that causes the stroke...However, yes, this training produces scar tissue (dead blood cells clotting at the wounded area). That in turn can develop to significant clots.

So, in this training there is not just qigong but use of medicine(dit da jow) and massage. The dit da raises heat and reduces blood stasis, the massage breaks down and helps the resorption process in the blood.

In short, yes, this training can F&*k you up if you don't do it properly and it is idiotic to engage in these practices without a teacher. Unless of course you want to mess yourself up. :)

The thing about the Iron training in TCMA that is interesting to me is that the body remains "normal". It's not like in other sports where guys get the same kind of abuse, but because they don't actively treat the damage at the same time in the process, they wind up more messed up in the long run.

They did have bad posture throughout - and the guy's elbows were wrong in the Kazuchi drill for Ippon Seoi Nage - and don't get me started on the holes in their side control position! And you call that sprinting - looked like jogging to me!

GET OFF MY LAWN!

David Jamieson's post is completely correct. The training is hard gi-gung. And in application, breathing technique will be applied. So it is not just that we relax our muscles will still enable us to defend against strike. That is true especially when the incoming strike is strong.
