Sharky, I should expect this level of immaturity from you after seeing your post titled "Hm." regarding the woman that lives next door to you. I think everyone who unfortuneatly read that post is a bit more ignorant now for doing so. - Spectre

I belive that looks to me like the art of going down painfully looking like a nit wit.
At least from what i can tell from the pictures.
Ever watched a nature video?
Ive seen this trick before, when the deer tries to get away from the tiger. It runs a few hundred feet and its looking good then for NO reason it leaps into the air at some rediculous angle and kicks all its feet in strange directions. This usualy provides the tiger with just the break it needs and it mows that deer on down.
Hence im just gonna asume that maybe thats what these guys are trying?

you cant win all the time but you cant always lose either...

This is a cult.

I'd post stuff, but I gotta go meet bamboo leaf for push hands. Should be easy to find info on the net.

Sleepy Tiger, what you're referring to is called "stotting". It's the deer's way of attempting to impress any females watching by handicapping himself in his escape attempt. The idea is, "I'm SO great, I can even escape when I do this ridiculous stuff!" :)
Great article about it and other risk taking habits in this months Discover magazine. Apparently, many animals have different "daredevil" maneuvers to prove their superiority. Guppies swim under the nose of a predator before darting away...birds flying upside down...running with the bulls in Spain... ;)

It could just be conditioning guys. Thats the point of so many positions in the martial arts.

i have read about this a couple days ago... its a blend of karate and aikido... all budo arts mixed in by a higly known karate master in japan his names egama if im not wrong... one of his under studies is a england man named Waight. he just adapted karate to modern times mixing in internal arts like taichi to keep in shape even when old. hes quite respected and im sure u can find information about him on the net.

Peace!

Taken from website:

quote:
Today, what we need most is neither martial arts for killing and hurting people nor just sports to compete physical superiority, but totally new type of martial arts. We no longer have to brandish a real sword and throwing, kicking, or punching one another. We, as martial artists, wonder why such martial arts did not exist before.

Who are these turds? The whole reason for martial (war) arts is self defense? Their whole mission statement is bogus.

I whole-heartedly agree, African Tiger. These slot-heads don't even understand the basic history behind martial arts. What an idiotic and completely stupid reason to devise a new style. Besides that, what's wrong with tae-bo for what they want...? It fulfills the same ridiculous mission statement they have now.

And, yes, they do appear too much like a cult to me. I'd stay away from these freaks. It looks like they'll all be castrating themselves, drinking kool-aid and moving on to meet the Mother Ship in the tail of a comet soon...

At last someone else who has heard of Shintaido. I got lent a book on this..."Topic" a few years back, and every MA person I spoke to had absolutely no idea what it was. The book was full of pictures of people leaping through the air (as above) and, funniest of all, two people running down the beach towards each other brandishing Katanas, only to leap into each other's arms and embrace!!!! :D :D :D
That is all they seemed to do. A lot of jumping into the air and a s**tload of hugs. Might be good for getting a warm fuzzy feeling every now and then, but as a martial art it leaves a lot to be desired.
I honestly thought that it was a joke. But the fact that it has reared its head again several years after I read the book leads me to believe that once again some poor saps are paying money to learn something that won't help them in any way shape or form. Oh well, people never learn...

"Forfeit the game
Before somebody else takes you out of the frame
And puts your name to shame
Cover up your face
You can't run the race
The pace is too fast,
You just won't last!"

No matter what they do, none of you find this statement offensive?
No one?

Which bit - the bit about slot-heads or the bit about Tae-bo? :D

Life's too short to run around getting offended by everything people say over the internet.
