I like aspects of it. Not really bothered by the chest protector.

No head shots? I thought they kicked to the head. Does that mean kicks to the head allowed, hands not?

I liked watching it.

That said, while I understand the safety ideas behind the no head shots thing, in practice, I think it ends up meaning no hand strikes at all, since, generally speaking, striking to the head is used to open up the body for targets. Taking away most striking, it encourages entries that might be more nuanced if those doing it had to take strikes into account. As it stands, there were almost no hand strikes(I'm tempted to say none whatsoever) in those fights, and I would suggest that this is because of the no head shots rule. It ends up being kicks and then enter, kicks and then enter.

Some fun kicks, but without the opportunity to see kicks integrated with strikes, it was the shuai aspect that had the most meat.

That said, I liked watching some of the takedowns and counters.

The rules for empty hand spar --

Overall, they favor kicks and throws.

Ouch.

Lei Tai is good.
It lets young guys get their yayas out. :)

Shows that physical practice in the skills you need is important. I never thought of the kyukushin-like sacrificial jump spinning kick as a tai chi maneuver. Also the tai chi guys were terrible at uprooting their shaolin counterpart's balance... something they claim to be really good at <sigh>.

other than the fact it's completely staged and fake, it's wonderful
