In the back of the Confucius Mansion is a beautiful garden where one can relax and enjoy the most delicious and unique confections sold at a small table there.
Qufu is relaxed rules for accommodation no special rules for foreigners.

Passing by Qufu, Kaifeng, Zhengshou, Songshan, you are only 500 km from Dengfeng to get fresh walnuts.

Thanks, Wolfen. I had seen a lot of the stuff about Taishan, and was aware that Confucius' mansion was nearby, but hadn't looked into where yet.
