Wah Lum people of knowledge,
What is the deal with the footage of Si Gung Chan Pui?
When I search on youtube there is none.

Is there some sort of ban on chan pui footage not allowed to be posted online?

Thanks for posting that Gene.
That is an excellent representation.
But Chan Pui has been performing in USA since the late '60's. How can nothing of his be on the internet. I have seen footage of him doing performances (as well as having been to some) from way back when.
None of it is on the internet, so I wondered if there is some sort of Wah Lum prohibition on footage of him from the old days.

There's a lot of footage of Chan Pui and his students in this documentary.

Greetings,

Something precious is not always shared.

Let's take one of your Sifu as an example:

Art D'Agostino Sifu took his Wah Lum training to an exceptional level, such that even today, after over 25 years, his competitive footage from that time, alone, would literally blow away a great many current wushu players if accepted for competition.

I see nothing from his competitive era on u tube. I am cool with that. Yet, he is still very much an inspiration to those who saw him compete live or via video.

He is precious because he showed that much can be achieved when you really try.

Shifu Arthur gave me all his footage to do with as I see fit. The plan was to make it public.
It was seized by customs (but the plane was safe).

Good point, It would be nice to see that again.

try searching youtube for "wah lum kung fu" instead.
You'll get a lot more returns and a few vids of Chan sifu.

Greetings Tainan Mantis,

I apologize for not addressing you directly in my post. Your response had me a little confused ("who is he responding to?").
I figured it out.

I did not know that you had something to share.

The question is: Is the world ready for it?

And there is always that issue of intellectual property.

Then, again, it all seems to fall back to "something precious is not always shared".

Four instructional videos in 1.

VHS Video of this once in a lifetime rare instructional collaboration taken at the Wah Lum temple in 1980.

This footage is no longer available on a single volume and is very hard to find in any form at all.

This is an original video as received from Grandmaster Brendan Lai at Brendan Lai's Martial Arts Supply in San Francisco, California in 1995.

Watch these masters perform empty hands sets, weapons, and application of techniques. Also includes two man hand and weapon forms.

Featuring in order of appearance:

Master Chan Pui - Northern Praying Mantis and Tan Tui SystemMaster
Brendan Lai - 7 Star Praying MantisMaster
Adam Hsu - Pa Chi Kung Fu and Chen Style Tai Chi ChuanMaster
Doc Fai Wong - Choy Lay Fut and Yang Style Tai Chi ChuanSpecial

Note: Excellent and very rare performance by the late Master Brendan Lai. Wonderful display of perfect 7 Star Praying Mantis technique and controlled Jing! A tribute to the highly influential instructor and staple of Chinese Kung Fu for decades. Footage of Brendan Lai is a rare treat indeed these days and is a true bonus on this video.

Hello everybody

I was there in this China Trip with Grandmaster Chan. The event that you can see on this video was a welcoming party made by the Shajing local government. As Shajing is his hometown, he and our group were received with great honors. It was a very unique experience to see the Wah Lum people from China performing their forms (I could recognize Plum Flower, Big Mantis, Big Fan Cha, Yin Ching Broadsword). They also performed some forms that I´ve never seen before (for example, short staff form, a different guando form, two-person set...).

my guess would be that if he wanted video of himself put up he would have someone do it. I would never post video of someone else....even if I did video it at a demo or tournament.... unless given permission.

He has probably heard of a lot of negative comments on forums like these......and he may not see the point in doing it....or care.

That was really cool to watch, hope I can move like that when I am that age. I remember I went to train there for a two week full time training course about 20 years ago. I made the mistake of going to their sparring class, I think they took that as a challenge and put me up against their best guys, and they were trying to take my head off.
