That is spot on.

I've talked to people who've said Jackie Chan sucks, and they only know him from his Brett Ratner films. The old-school guys who really understood the art of setting up great screen fights, like Jackie, Sammo Hung, Lau Kar-Leung, and several others, are disappearing or are gone. American action movie directors and choreographers all try to adopt aspects of the '80s and '90s-style Hong Kong screen fighting, but lack the basic understanding of what makes them work. And unfortunately, even great performers/choreographers eventually become old and lose momentum/run out of ideas.

I've also heard people who say that Tony Jaa can do things Jackie could only dream of. Again, clearly a case of only having seen his later American work, or not understanding the level of difficulty of JC's work during his peak years (1978 - approximately 1994). As good as Tony Jaa is, his work will never approach JC's body of work in terms of complexity, variety, quality, quantity or longevity.
