Although 2014 is just about over, Hollywood multi-hyphenate Sylvester Stallone is among those already looking to the future. Stallone revealed via Twitter that he has lined up his next three projects: He’ll begin production in Philadelphia on the Rocky spinoff Creed immediately, then shoot Rambo: Last Blood (confirming ComingSoon.net’s own title scoop from earlier this year) and follow both with the mobster biopic Scarpa.

Stallone will reprise his role as Rocky Balboa for Creed opposite Michael B. Jordan (Fruitvale Station, Chronicle) and Tessa Thompson (Dear White People, When a Stranger Calls). The story follows Jordan as the grandson of Apollo Creed. The elder Creed, played by Carl Weathers, appeared in the first four Rocky films until a fight with Ivan Drago in Rocky IV led to his death in the ring. The new film will see Rocky stepping in as the younger Creed’s reluctant trainer.

It is believed (although not fully confirmed at this time) that Stallone will also direct Last Blood, which will serve as the fifth (and likely final) entry in the action franchise launched in 1982 with First Blood. In 2009, a rumored synopsis hit for a fifth film that made it seem like Stallone was planning to adapt James Byron Huggins’ novel “Hunter.” At this time, however, official plot details are unavailable.

Scarpa, finally, will follow the life of Gregory “The Grim Reaper” Scarpa, the chief enforcer for the Colombo crime family, who was also an FBI informant for over thirty years. Brad Furman (The Lincoln Lawyer, Runner Runner) is attached to direct with the script hailing from Nicholas Pileggi (Goodfellas, Casino).

Stallone’s original Tweets, which include a peek at his writing office, are posted below:

I think our only Rambo thread is this one: John-Rambo-Movie-Trailer (http://www.kungfumagazine.com/forum/showthread.php?48493-John-Rambo-Movie-Trailer)

Then there's the Expendables threads - I'll post EX4 (http://www.kungfumagazine.com/forum/showthread.php?67954-Expendables-4) because that references the others.

I thought Last Blood was a dumb title anyway.

I was very amused to see this press release come out on Cinco de Mayo.

It’s seemingly not over until it’s over for Vietnam vet John Rambo. And even then it might not be over. Sylvester Stallone is set to return for a fifth installment in the Rambo franchise, I understand. There were whispers he may also direct but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Avi Lerner’s Millennium is launching sales on the project in Cannes with a tentative shoot date set for September of this year. Stallone is understood to be working on the script and his Expendables collaborator Lerner will produce.

In the fifth episode of the franchise, when the daughter of one of his friends is kidnapped, Rambo, who has been working on a ranch, crosses the U.S.-Mexican border and quickly finds himself up against the full might of one of Mexico’s most violent cartels.

The lucrative Rambo franchise launched in 1982 with First Blood and a fifth installment has been mooted for some time, despite the actor expressing reservations about a return a couple of years ago. Stallone, who starred in and directed the last episode of the series in 2008, is currently working on Creed II. UK trade Screen International was first out the gate with the news.

RAMBO V: LAST BLOOD IS A WRAP (http://theactionelite.com/rambo-v-last-blood-is-a-wrap/?fbclid=IwAR1T4aLZzVawNffQTr3GZlDhdd_e64mqrLIurm9G 3cjSNsFoAkCp9bKsWPU)

Sylvester Stallone has posted on Instagram where he not only announced the title of the fifth and final Rambo movie but also that filming is now complete.

He states “It’s a long long road that has been traveled … thank you for the support…”

In the video he also mentions “Well that was it, that was my final shot on RAMBO V: LAST BLOOD – at least that’s what they’re calling it, thus far. It’s been an amazing journey, it really has. This character was presented to me in 1980, and no one wanted to do it. As a matter of fact, I was the 11th choice. People looked at this as sort of almost a cursed project; I looked at it and said, “This is an amazing opportunity.”

The fifth installment of the “Rambo” franchise, “Rambo: Last Blood,” will hit theaters on Sept. 20 — 37 years after the series launched with “First Blood.”

The story centers on Sylvester Stallone’s John Rambo crossing into Mexico and taking on a violent cartel when the daughter of one of his friends is kidnapped. “Rambo: Last Blood” also stars Paz Vega, Sergio Peris-Mencheta and Yvette Monreal. Adrian Goldberg is directing from a screenplay by Stallone and Matthew Cirulnick. Stallone, who was 36 when the first film premiered, will be 73 at “Last Blood’s” release.

“Rambo: Last Blood” was shot in Bulgaria, and follows “First Blood,” “Rambo: First Blood Part II” (1985), “Rambo III” (1988) and “Rambo” (2008). Producers are Kevin King Templeton and Les Weldon.

The four Rambo films have grossed a combined $728 million in worldwide box office, led by $300 million for “Rambo: First Blood Part II.”

The Lionsgate pic is the third title to land on the date after Sony’s “Black and Blue,” starring Naomie Harris and Frank Grillo, and Focus Features’ movie adaptation of “Downton Abbey.”

The first film was based on David Morrell’s 1972 novel “First Blood,” about a troubled Vietnam War veteran and former U.S. Army Special Forces Soldier who is expert in weaponry, hand-to-hand combat and guerrilla warfare. In the first film, Rambo has been wandering the country for nearly a decade before winding up in a small town in Washington and tangling with local law enforcement — leading to the destruction of most the town before he surrenders.

The star will also show a restored copy of the 1982 original at a gala screening.

Rambo is set to arrive on the Croisette, with Sylvester Stallone added to Cannes' official selection to present a restored version of the 1982 action classic and preview the first images of the latest installment in the film franchise.

Stallone is bringing back his iconic character 37 years later in Rambo V: Last Blood, which is set to hit theaters Sept. 20. The sequel co-stars Paz Vega and Oscar Jaenda and is directed by Adrien Grunberg.

The restored copy of Rambo has a French connection: It is backed by StudioCanal and completed by Eclair in Paris. The pic is set for a gala screening May 24.

The last time Stallone was in Cannes, he brought along his Expendables 3 co-stars, including Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mel Gibson, Jason Statham and Antonio Banderas, and rode two tanks down the Croisette before parking them in front of the famed Carlton hotel.

Meet The Two Powerhouse Women, Christa Campbell & Lati Grobman Behind ‘Rambo: Last Blood’ (https://hollywoodlife.com/2019/07/17/christa-campbell-lati-grobman-rambo-last-blood-interview/)

I bet you don’t realize that two women are behind the upcoming sure-to-be blockbuster Sylvester Stallone film, ‘Rambo: Last Blood.’. Well, get ready to meet producers Lati Grobman and Christa Campbell.

Rambo: Last Blood, Texas Chainsaw 3D, The Hitman’s Bodyguard and Hellboy. These aren’t exactly chick flicks, but they have all been or are expected to be huge box office hits and, and it’s big box office hits that the female duo behind Campbell- Grobman Films are interested in producing.

Lati Grobman and Christa Campbell proudly tell HollywoodLife — “We don’t speak the best or dress the best, but we don’t lose many,” in an EXCLUSIVE interview. The two who made their first splash as a producing team when they bought the rights for Texas Chainsaw 3D, also pride themselves on having come up through the film business, not by attending a prestigious film school or by ‘going to Harvard,’ but through the school of hard knocks.

Lati, was born in Moscow, but moved with her parents to Israel when she was three months old. After acting as a teen in Israel and serving in the Israel army for two years, she moved to the US. Acting school led to a short stint of film school, but where she really learned her trade was worked as a crew member on several films as a camera assistant, electrician, set dresser and more. “We’re from a rougher background,” Lati tells HollywoodLife.

Christa meanwhile, was from Northern California and started her career as an actress starring in low budget films. It was actually at an audition, that she heard about the Texas Chainsaw 3D film rights being available for sale. She immediately called her friend Lati — the pair had met through the entertainment business — to excitedly tell her that “we have to get them.”

The pair was successful in their mission and their production company was born. Along with Rambo: Last Blood, expected in theaters this September, they also have a sequel to their successful, The Hitman’s Bodyguard film, coming out in 2020 — The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, starring Morgan Freeman, Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson and Salma Hayek.

Today, they are best friends as well as business partners, looking for scripts, finding directors, casting actors including the biggest names, and raising funding. “Once you have all that, then you can hire the rest of the crew and talent. Put together the army,” Christa says matter of factly. Their work starts with a great script and then a commitment from a director who will attract actors, they explain. The pair brush off the idea that being women could be a barrier in the filmmaking business, though they fully appreciate the #MeToo movement. “Most women accepted the way it was and no one thought it would change. We have strong personalities and we never felt like being women held us back,” Lati says. But she admits that “being mistreated has happened to all of us,” but “we swallowed our pride and kept going.”

Lati actually got her first producing job by closing a deal with Harvey Weinstein in Cannes. Luckily she never experienced anything with him, and he agreed to do the deal. “I was very Israel — this militant crazy Israeli girl. He was probably scared of me.”

Today, the pair are all about the work and they have become super pros about getting films made. Bulgaria is their favorite place to shoot — ‘There’s a studio there that’s like a village that has everything you need.’ Although their new releases are packed full of action, “They have a heart, a story. They aren’t just about more and more action,” says Christa. “These films tell a story or create an emotional connection with the audience.” Their Rambo star, Sylvester Stallone is a pleasure to work with, they say. “We’ve always had great experiences with big stars. they’ve made it, they have nothing to prove so they’re more relaxed,” points out Christa.

Christa is the partner now who can go on set to oversee the production. That’s because Lati is the single mother of five young children — a set of triplets and a set of twins — four boys and a daughter. And Christa is like a second mom to the kids. “My kids love her,” says Lati.

How does Lati manage to juggle her partnership in a major production company and five children? “I do have help at home, but I work until the second I go to sleep. I’m doing something I love, I’ve never taken a vacation. It’s not in my vocabulary and I don’t understand what a vacation is. Why would I go and sit on the beach? I have no time for anything. I don’t dress fancy, I don’t have time to be dolled up,” she explains.

As for advice that the pair have for young women who want to break into the business side of the entertainment business, they recommend trying to land a junior job at a talent agency — even working in the mailroom or being an assistant to an agent. If they read a book that they think would make a fantastic movie — see if they can purchase the film rights to the book — it may not cost much. Of if they want to become filmmakers — shoot a film on their iPhones — it can be your calling card.

In any case, if you want a career like Christa or Lati’s, “you can’t stay at home and dream — you have to start!”

We will likely be offered a screener. Is there a Kung Fu connection? Maybe...
