She has since gone on to star in many of Digital Playground's best selling movies like “Nurses” and “Teachers”, as well as garnering a lead role in the mainstream, $40 million movie “Piranha 3-D”, releasing theatrically in April 2010. The young star was blown away by War Machine's performance. “I was incredibly turned on when I first saw War Machine,” says Riley Steele. “He's very sexy and has an amazing body. He admitted to being a bit nervous, which actually made me nervous too. When the camera started, he completely shocked me. He was an animal and a total natural! War Machine is now on the top of my list!”

Robby D., Digital Playground's director offers his evaluation of War Machine's porn debut. “In his first porn scene ever with Riley Steele, War Machine had a great top game and was able to take Riley's back several times,” comments Robby D. “Riley reversed the position and mounted War Machine, but I don't think he minded. Eventually Riley tapped out, and War Machine rewarded her with a load to the face. On a serious note, War Machine's experience in front of the camera through his fighting career made my job a lot easier as the director. He was made for this.”

The woman MMA fighter War Machine allegedly beat to a pulp says she was actually pummeled within an inch of her life.

Porn star Christy Mack says War Machine broke up with her in May but for some reason showed up at her house at 2 AM Friday. She says he walked in, didn't say a word but unleashed a beating on her friend.

War Machine threw the friend out of the house and then she says he allegedly made her strip and shower in front of him. Then she says the beating began ... resulting in 18 broken bones around her eyes, a broken nose, missing teeth, a fractured rib and ruptured liver.

Mack says War Machine also "sawed much of my hair off with [a] dull knife."

She says he threatened to rape her but was unable to perform.

Mack says she ran out of the house naked, begging neighbors to help her. One did and took her to the hospital, where she remains.

War Machine is on the run. There's a $10,000 reward for his capture.

MMA fighter War Machine is still a fugitive from justice -- after allegedly brutalizing his girlfriend -- because he thinks he's doomed if he surrenders to police.

War Machine, who's been on the run since the fight early Friday morning, tweeted late last night that he went to the home of his porn star girlfriend Christy Mack to propose to her -- but found another man at her house when he got there.

Christy ended up in the hospital, and police named War Machine their #1 suspect. In one of his tweets, he said ... "The cops will never give me fair play, never believe me."

Christy's family and friends tell TMZ ... War Machine is delusional about Christy. They say he and Christy were no longer in a serious relationship, and he had no business showing up at her house.

War Machine's real name is Jonathan Koppenhaver. He was on the The Ultimate Fighter.

Actually, he legally changed his name to War Machine in order to avoid a lawsuit with some wrestling promotion. I remember that because when I heard it my first thought was "man, there is something wrong with that kid"

What annoys me about all this is that the media is making a huge deal of using the words "porn star" and "mma fighter" as many times as they can. This has nothing to do with mma or porn. If a plumber attacks a seamstress, I doubt those titles would make it in the headline. They do it to football a lot. A few bad apples make em all look bad. People are people. Some are sick in the head, others are not. The labels annoy me.

The only thing that annoys me more is that this is all over the news, yet it happens every single day to many many people. This kind of thing is always a reminder as to why most media is garbage. It doesn't even approach journalism.

Yeah, on a news report about this story, they were saying, "How can they arrest a man who can kill with his bare hands?" I thought that was a crock. My answer would be, "Same as they arrest people who can kill with the gun(s) they're carrying, only probably more easily, if he's unarmed."

MMA fighter War Machine apprehended in Simi Valley; accused of savagely beating ex-girlfriend

War Machine, the mixed-martial-arts fighter accused of savagely beating his ex-girlfriend, adult film star Christy Mack, has been arrested in Simi Valley.

War Machine, whose real name is Jonathan Koppenhaver, was taken into custody Friday about 1:45 p.m. at an Extended Stay America hotel, police said.

Koppenhaver, a Simi Valley native, is accused of going to Mack’s home in Las Vegas about 2 a.m. on Aug. 8 and brutally beating her, leaving her with 18 broken bones and a lacerated liver, police said.

He is being held without bond on a fugitive from justice federal charge in the Ventura County Jail, according to officials.

Koppenhaver said he was innocent on Twitter: "The cops will never give me fair play, never believe me. Still deciding what to do but at the end of the day it's all just heart breaking.”

On Tuesday, authorities issued a warrant for Koppenhaver's arrest, charging him with several counts of battery, assault with a deadly weapon and other crimes.

Mack posted several pictures of her severe injuries. They showed her eyes swollen shut with purple and black bruises across her body, and in a statement, she alleged that Koppenhaver forced her to shower in front of him, beat her savagely and assaulted her.

She also alleges that Koppenhaver stabbed her several times and that he had beaten her previously before ending the relationship in May.

‘War Machine’ to Be Sent Back to Las Vegas After Ventura Court Hearing (http://ktla.com/2014/08/19/war-machine-to-be-sent-back-to-las-vegas-after-ventura-court-hearing/)
Posted 3:39 PM, August 19, 2014, by Melissa Pamer, Updated at 03:50pm, August 19, 2014

A mixed-martial arts fighter who allegedly brutally beat his adult film star ex-girlfriend in Las Vegas was ordered returned to Nevada at a Ventura County court hearing Tuesday.

Jonathan “War Machine” Koppenhaver, 32, had been arrested in Simi Valley Friday in connection with the Aug. 8 assault of Christy Mack.

He was held on a felony charge of being a fugitive from justice, county jail records showed. In a Ventura court hearing that lasted only a few minutes, Koppenhaver signed his extradition papers. No cameras were allowed in the courtroom.

On Aug. 12, Las Vegas police announced a warrant for his arrest charging him with several counts of battery, including by strangulation, as well as assault with a deadly weapon, coercion by force and “open and gross lewdness.”

The previous day, Mack had posted a statement on Twitter, along with graphic photos showing injuries she said were dealt to her by Koppenhaver.

Mack said Koppenhaver made her undress and shower in front of him and then assaulted her, Mack said. When he went into her kitchen, she feared he was getting a knife and ran out of the home and through her neighborhood, naked, to get help, she wrote.

She said she suffered 18 broken bones, a ruptured liver and other injuries. She could not walk, chew or see out of her left eye, she said. Their relationship had ended in May, Mack said.

An attorney for Koppenhaver said his client has struggled with the response to the allegations against him.

“The hardest thing for my client is seeing the responses from the media, the public. There’s been a lot of statements on one side,” said attorney Brandon Sua. “The media has done a good job of painting my client as a monster, but my client is not a monster. He is a good guy.”

A statement would come “when the time is right,” Sua said, adding that his client did not do “anything illegal.”

Koppenhaver is from Simi Valley and Las Vegas police had suspected her returned to Southern California after the assault.

He was arrested by police with the help of the U.S. Marshals Service in a hotel room where investigators found pizza and a small amount of cash.

Witnesses to the arrest said police were called after Koppenhaver had a violent altercation with a woman at the hotel.

LAS VEGAS — A mixed martial arts fighter known as War Machine was hit Wednesday with attempted murder, sexual assault and other new charges in Las Vegas in a case that prosecutors said stemmed from attacks on his ex-girlfriend.

The defendant, whose birth name is Jonathan Paul Koppenhaver, stood shackled and flanked by two police officers during a brief initial court appearance.

Koppenhaver was arrested Aug. 15 after his ex-girlfriend, adult film actress Christy Mack, posted Twitter photos of herself showing injuries she said she received when Koppenhaverattacked her a week earlier in Las Vegas.

Koppenhaver, 32, was extradited to Nevada from the Los Angeles suburb of Simi Valley, California, where he was initially sought on a warrant involving seven charges, including battery, assault, coercion and lewdness.

Koppenhaver, who legally changed his name to War Machine in 2008, told the judge on Wednesday that he understood the charges and would use the name Koppenhaver in court. He wasn't asked to enter a plea.

"I think the public will understand that War Machine's a character," Koppenhaver's lawyer Brandon Sua said outside court. "He is controversial and people need to understand where to draw that line from his character as War Machine and a person as Jon Koppenhaver, because that's who he is."

Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Melanie Andress-Tobiasson ordered Koppenhaver held without bail pending a preliminary hearing Oct. 17.

Sua said he and attorneys Matthew Terry and Brian Watkins intend to fight the charges that also include burglary, battery constituting domestic violence, sexually motivated coercion and witness tampering.

Koppenhaver is accused of using a knife during some of the incidents that date back to May 2013.

Sua previously said Koppenhaver was defending himself on Aug. 8 during an incident involving Mack and her friend, Corey Thomas, at Mack's home.

Police said Thomas suffered broken bones in his face. Mack, 23, who is referred to in court documents as Christine Mackinday, was hospitalized for several days with a lacerated liver, facial bruises and fractures, and missing teeth.

She is undergoing surgical procedures to repair facial and oral injuries, prosecutor Jacqueline Bluth said.

The Associated Press usually does not identify alleged victims of sex assault. Mack agreed to allow the AP to use her name in the case against Koppenhaver.

Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson said he met with Mack before the additional charges were filed.

"When this case was investigated further we learned there were additional incidents of criminal conduct," Wolfson said. "She's ready to testify. She's ready to come into court and tell the truth and tell what happened."

Koppenhaver, who also has acted in porn productions, was dropped by his fight promoter, Bellator MMA, after Mack's accusations were made public.

He made his Ultimate Fighting Championship debut in 2007 and lost his only pay-per-view bout in 2008.

He had a 14-5 record as a welterweight and last fought in October 2013.

"because that's who he is." srsly?

Las Vegas, NV -- The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department on Thursday reported one of its corrections officers prevented the suicide of domestic violence suspect and mixed-martial arts fighter Jonathan Koppenhaver, legally known as "War Machine."

Police said about 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the officer was conducting a walk-through inside the Clark County Detention Center when he noticed Koppenhaver in a seated position on the floor with feet resting on his bunk.

The officer additionally noticed what appeared to be a torn piece of linen around his neck, which was tied to the leg of the bunk.

When the officer entered his cell, Koppenhaver was unresponsive and struggling to breathe. The officer cut the linen from his neck and he later became responsive.

Police said Koppenhaver stabilized by 9:45 p.m. and he was moved to a medical isolation cell and placed on suicide watch.

Police said they located a suicide note inside Koppenhaver's cell.

Koppenhaver in September pleaded not guilty to charges of assault and kidnapping in connection with a case involving his ex-girlfriend, Christine Mackinday, who is also known as Christy Mack.

According to court records, Koppenhaver is a suspect in an attack that took place on Aug. 8 at Mackinday's residence.

Koppenhaver is also facing charges of battery with substantial harm, strangulation, domestic violence-related battery, open and gross lewdness and attempted murder.

War Machine penned a suicide note in his jail cell ... in which he paints himself as the victim as he recounts the night he brutally beat his porn star girlfriend Christy Mack within an inch of her life.

We broke the story ... War Machine tried to kill himself inside a Las Vegas jail cell last week -- a plan that was foiled by a corrections officer.

TMZ obtained a letter War Machine sent to a friend the day before his suicide attempt. It's shockingly delusional. He says after they broke up and got back together, "Something seemed different about you."

He then tries to justify the beating, by saying he was stunned when he discovered her infidelity, and saying "Finding what I found that night was devastating to me, more than you will ever know," adding, "not just the unfaithfulness, but the way u cared for him and protected him."

War Machine says in the note this time he'd let Christy's new boyfriend Corey Thomas beat him up -- because he believes she would have stopped the guy and kicked her new dude out.

He then sinks into a world of self pity ... "I still don't understand how I got into this mess. I don't know why this had to happen. My life was going so well." He then has the balls to say, "I forgive you, please forgive me."

War Machine is still facing 32 charges -- including attempted murder -- while he waits behind bars.

LAS VEGAS — A mixed martial arts fighter who changed his name to War Machine was ordered Friday to stand trial in Nevada state court on 34 felony charges including attempted murder, sexual assault and kidnapping that could get him life in prison for allegedly attacking his porn star ex-girlfriend and her friend.

Jonathan Paul Koppenhaver’s leg shackles rattled softly as he sat, bouncing his left leg steadily beneath the defendant’s table, while his ex-girlfriend, Christy Mack, testified she feared he was fetching a knife to finish her off when she ran bruised, bleeding and naked from her house and knocked on neighbors’ doors for help early Aug. 8.

Mack testified she remembered tasting blood when she came to on the floor of the running shower, and a kick in the abdomen sending her back to the bathroom floor when she tried to get to her feet.

“I couldn’t breathe,” she said. “I don’t remember getting out of the shower. I just remember being on the floor. Naked on the floor. Cold.”

Mack sobbed as she viewed photos of her injuries including a broken nose, missing teeth, fractured eye socket, leg injuries and a lacerated liver. She said she had cut marks on her head, and remembered Koppenhaver inserting a knife in her ear while threatening to kill her.

That knife broke as Koppenhaver cut her hair and wigs, she said. She decided to flee when she heard Koppenhaver in the kitchen rummaging through drawers for another knife.

“I shudder to think what would have happened had she not escaped,” Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Melanie Andress-Tobiasson said minutes later.

Koppenhaver laughed audibly and shook his head at one point as prosecutor Jacqueline Bluth asked Mack details of alleged sexual attacks.

Defense attorney Brandon Sua tried to deny his client laughed, but Andress-Tobiasson stopped him short.

“I watched him,” she said.

The judge added two felony charges to 32 previously lodged against Koppenhaver and bound him over for trial on charges also including coercion, burglary, attempted sexual assault, preventing or dissuading a witness or victim from reporting a crime, and strangulation.

Koppenhaver didn’t testify Friday. Sua said he’ll plead not guilty at his arraignment Thursday in Clark County District Court.

The Associated Press usually does not identify alleged victims of sex assault, but Mack agreed to the use of her name in this case.

One new charge, sexual assault, alleges Koppenhaver raped Mack one more time than previously alleged.

The other, felony battery causing substantial bodily harm, stemmed from Koppenhaver’s alleged attack on Corey Thomas, a computer shop owner who was staying the night at Mack’s house when Koppenhaver let himself in with a key, and found them in her bedroom after 1 a.m.

Thomas testified he suffered a broken nose and a dislocated shoulder.

Mack testified she and Thomas were friends, not in a sexual relationship. She said he was helping her set up a booth at a tattoo convention where she was registered appear the next day.

The judge also heard muffled sounds of a struggle and screams recorded after Mack dialed 911 and left the phone line open. Mack testified that Koppenhaver was attacking Thomas at the time.

“Jon. Stop! Please stop!” a woman’s voice says.

Koppenhaver finally let Thomas leave the house, but Mack told Bluth she felt she couldn’t leave.

“It would have been much worse if I had tried,” she testified.

The 23-year-old, whose legal name is Christine Mackinday, sobbed and dabbed her eyes with a tissue during several hours of testimony.

She made a brief statement to reporters as she left the courthouse with her lawyer, Daniel Albregts.

I’m glad things are coming out, in there and in the media, about domestic violence and domestic abuse,” she said.

Koppenhaver, who also has acted in porn productions, was arrested Aug. 15 at a hotel in the Los Angeles suburb of Simi Valley. He was dropped by his fight promoter, Bellator MMA, after Mack’s accusations were made public.

He made his Ultimate Fighting Championship debut in 2007 and lost his only pay-per-view bout in 2008. He had a 14-5 record as a welterweight and last fought in October 2013.

FILE - In this Nov. 14, 2014, file photo, Jonathan Paul Koppenhaver, also known as War Machine, appears in court for a preliminary hearing in Las Vegas. Koppenhaver is accused of assaulting his former girlfriend Christine Mackinday, also known as Christy Mack. A judge on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2014 revoked probation for Koppenhaver, the former mixed martial arts fighter War Machine on a prior felony conviction while he awaits trial on charges that could get him life without parole for allegedly trying to kill Mackinday, his porn actress ex-girlfriend and her friend. Probation was revoked Tuesday on a prior felony conviction against former mixed martial arts fighter War Machine, who awaits trial on separate charges that could get him life in prison without parole for allegedly trying to kill his porn actress ex-girlfriend and her friend in the woman's Las Vegas home.

Jonathan Paul Koppenhaver's lawyer, Brandon Sua, said Tuesday that Koppenhaver doesn't dispute leaving Nevada without permission in August. He was sought at the time by police after ex-girlfriend Christy Mack reported she had been attacked, and he was arrested Aug. 15 at a hotel in the Los Angeles suburb of Simi Valley.

Koppenhaver, 33, faces trial Feb. 17 in that case, after pleading not guilty last month to 34 felony charges including attempted murder, kidnapping, sexual assault, attempted sexual assault, battery, strangulation and coercion.

Clark County District Court Judge Valerie Adair on Tuesday invoked a 1½-to-4 year sentence she suspended in February 2012 when granting Koppenhaver probation following his guilty plea to felony attempted battery causing substantial bodily harm. The judge also ordered Koppenhaver at the time to undergo anger management and substance-abuse counseling and submit to steroid testing.

Sua said the prison sentence had no immediate practical effect because his client already is being held without bail in isolation at the Clark County jail.

Jailers reported in October that Koppenhaver apparently tried to kill himself in his Las Vegas by tying a piece of cloth around his neck and attaching it to a bunk bed. Jail officials said they also found a suicide note in his jail cell.

Mack, 23, whose legal name is Christine Mackinday, testified at a preliminary hearing that she was left with a broken nose, missing teeth, fractured eye socket, leg injuries and a lacerated liver in the Aug. 8 attack.

Mack told a judge that Koppenhaver kicked and beat her and cut her hair with a dull knife in a bathroom before she ran naked and bleeding to neighbors' homes for help. She said she escaped when she thought Koppenhaver was fetching a kitchen knife to kill her.

The Associated Press usually doesn't identify alleged victims of sexual assault, but Mack agreed to let her name be made public.

Her friend, Corey Thomas, testified that Koppenhaver broke his nose and dislocated his shoulder before allowing him to leave Mack's house with a warning that if he went to the police, Koppenhaver would hurt him.

Koppenhaver changed his name after making his Ultimate Fighting Championship debut in 2007. He had a 14-5 record as a welterweight before being dropped by his fight promoter, Bellator MMA, after Mack's accusations became public.

Where to begin? It's sad to say that I am 1000 times more embarrassed of what I'm about to tell you, than I am of being accused of the crimes that have landed me in jail. It's a testament to how screwed up my way of thinking is, as well as to how screwed up our society has become. At first I blamed this whole situation on Christy and that guy. Then I blamed my bad luck. Then I blamed my bad karma. Then I blamed myself. Then I blamed steroids. Then I blamed the programming job done to my subconscious mind… A product of a traumatic childhood and a poor choice of role models. One of them has to be the culprit, there must be some reason that, though I always have the best of intentions, I keep landing myself in huge messes. And why am I so restless, why am I never satisfied? I've achieved countless goals: I'm a professional athlete, I own my own business, I once had the perfect little wife, then I had Christy – my life, though enviable on all accounts – never satisfied me no matter how well it is going; I find a reason to be unhappy, a reason to sabotage it. A few blogs ago I wrote about the letter from my grandfather; his letter, and my response to it, broke my heart all over again. I began that blog with a quote of my own: "The good times only count while things are well; once things turn bad they only serve as specters – which torment you in the night." I think that must be the most horrible thing that any man has ever said. In both my blog and my letter back to my grandpa I compared my situation; losing the woman whom I loved when I found her in bed with another man, to my grandpa losing my grandmother to cancer after decades of happy marriage – saying that i'm better off – less good memories to be haunted by. I said that there are no good endings, all things end poorly. In the letter to my grandpa I said that our only hope is in the possibility of "heaven". That while only a fool could honestly believe in religion or God, there may still be an afterlife. For days after that I was depressed beyond words, I mean if all things end horribly and memories are only there to add to the pain – why live at all? What type of life can you live while always believing that for every good time you experience the memory of it will be back to torment you countless times? I now refuse to believe that. The day after I received my grandpa's letter I received a book titled "The Case For a Creator", I'm not sure who sent it, normally I get a receipt, but not this time. I set it aside uninterested. "Coincidentally", while chatting with my neighbor in the air vent that night, he asked me if I was religious. I proceeded to tell him about how all of that is garbage; I brought up the ancient holiday of Ishtar, the Nag Hammadi, scrolls, the Council of Nicaea, etc. 2 days later I found myself bored to death and out of "good" books and for the first time I picked up the book about the "Creator." On the back cover I learned that it was all about science (my favorite subject): Darwinism, DNA, subatomic particles, consciousness, etc. Now that I realized it was more about intelligent design and a nameless God, I started to read it. I finished it in 24 hours. It was great, full of facts that are impossible to argue against. The night I finish that I received a letter from a girl who writes me several times per month – always about God. This time though, her opening quote was awesome and I grabbed that book to let her know the authors name, Lee Strobel (I figured she'd like it), and in doing so I saw that he also wrote a book "The Case For Christ". I like the style of his first book and the hard facts that he used, and I wondered what that book would say, how would it grapple with all the stuff I had come to believe about Christianity. I've never had a problem with the idea of a God, I've only had a problem with organized religion. I made a note to get the book. The same night I told my neighbor about the "Case For a Creator" book, "you mean 'The Case For Christ'?" "Nah man, creator." "Who wrote it?" "Strobel." "Oh, cool, let me borrow it, I have the Christ one." What were the odds? After tearing into his beliefs about Jesus days earlier, it was awkward to tell him to let me read it, but I did. I finished it in 2 days. I have to admit that I believe that it requires more "faith" to believe that Jesus wasn't what they claim he was, than to believe that he was. I'm embarrassed to only have believed him now, when my life is in such turmoil, I feel that it makes me "weak", that I am abandoning "reason" only in desperation, but that's not what it is. Besides the overwhelming evidence in the books, there are all the "coincidences" in the days surrounding this, as well as my life's history. Why, when I am truly a good, loving, person and honestly try to keep my nose clean, do things keep coming out from left field and blindsiding me? Could it not be God saying, "Wake up dummy! I'm not gonna let you live this 'war machine' ego up and allow you to be happy until you learn to love me, the one who made you!" If I were following Jesus would any of my trouble have ever happened? If I didn't first break Christy's heart through my own selfishness, would she have done what she did? Before her, would I have grown restless with my perfect wife, if I wasn't living for ME, and instead living for Jesus? A few blogs back I wrote about Genghis Kahn and asked -WWGD – I've asked that too much in life. If I had asked WWJD I'd be happy and free…

People find faith in different ways and in different times BUT I have seen my share of people that have to reach rock bottom before they find it, too many people actually.
I don't know if it would have mattered if he had found Christ before, there is no guarantee if behaving better just because we find Christ ( even though we probably should).
I remember that old saying that " we are not a museum of saints but a hospital for sinners" and maybe that is why so many that hit rock bottom find Christ.
We he did was horrific and I am sure he KNEW it was wrong BUT what happened was a result of a life long path that lead to the final disastrous result.
There can be a transformation process when we find Christ BUT it only happens when we give ourselves over to Him.
I hope that he realizes that and does that.

Ecclesiastes mang: "Remember thine creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days draw nigh and the years shall pass and you shall find no pleasure in them"

Trying to dig oneself out of a hole of bad decisions by clean slate Jesus belief is as disingenuous as it gets. Often, people who do this fail to deal with the decimation and harm they have left in their wake. No reparations, no reconcilliations, no truth and no dealing with reality. Just hiding behind the skirts of religion.

Genuine reformation of an individual is a lot more rare than jail house jesus finders.

I hear you.
I hope people don't think that because the tricky part of giving oneself to Jesus is that one because very painfully aware of the need for forgiveness and redemption.
It is NOT an easy path, far from that.
See, forgiveness from God is the "easy part", it is the redemption part that people tend to not realize that still have to do.
Not to be saved mind you, but because it is part of the healing process.
Redemption means to to redeem what we have done and one must do reparations and one must reconcile not only with those we have hurt but with God and in doing so we are made painfully aware how inadequate anything we can do is BUT that we MUST do it, not to get anything out of it but because it is the RIGHT thing to do.

I recall one person saying that "born again Christians" have it easy, all they do is have to accept Jesus and they are saved.

Oh, that it could be so !

The process is a long, painful and sorrowful one BUT it is done out of love and by the strength of Christ in us because without Him, we simply could not do it.

And by IT I mean the redemptive process of change, reconciliation and forgiveness.

IF "warmachine" has truly found Christ, he is in for a fight far greater than anything he has ever faced before.

Could be, maybe not, we simply don't know.
There is no doubt that the fight game can turn people with the potential for violence even more so, especially in the pro ranks and especially with the addition of steroids.
I don't think that "gentle" people are attracted to pro fighting per say ( thought there are some that are) and I think that fighters are people that KNOW their violent sides ( to what degree of control that have of that side is the issue).

We can play the "what if" or the "maybe" game but not of that changes the reality of it all.

There is a "groupie" thing in MMA ( and boxing too, but less so) and many ( perhaps most?) are, well, to be nice, sexually promiscuous.
Its a explosive mix: fighting urges, high testosterone, sexually adventurous women, beating the crap out of someone being "OK", etc...

LAS VEGAS - The attempted murder and battery case against mixed martial arts fighter War Machine is scheduled to return to court Wednesday.

Lawyers will gather in Clark County District Court for a status check on the case.

Jonathan Koppenhaver, who legally changed his name to War Machine, pleaded not guilty to charges he attacked his former girlfriend Christy Mack and her companion Cory Thomas.

Mack suffered a lacerated liver, broken facial bones, broken teeth and injuries to her leg. Thomas had a broken nose and dislocated shoulder.

War Machine faces 34 charges. I imagine this will make tomorrow's newsfeed. We'll meet back here then.

LAS VEGAS – A court hearing was reset to June 3 for a former mixed martial arts fighter's challenge of felony charges he's facing in the alleged attempted murder of his porn actress ex-girlfriend and her friend.

Prosecutors say Brandon Sua, defense lawyer for Jonathan Paul Koppenhaver, was involved in court hearings in Los Angeles and unable to be in Las Vegas on Wednesday.

Sua didn't immediately respond to a message.

Koppenhaver, also known as War Machine, is charged with beating and sexually assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Christy Mack, at her home early last Aug. 8.

The Associated Press usually doesn't identify alleged victims of sex assault, but Mack agreed to let her name be used.

Koppenhaver is also charged with attacking Corey Thomas, who was staying the night at Mack's house when Koppenhaver arrived.

The charges against him are heinous, but disgraced MMA fighter War Machine’s antics in court, coupled with the sickening defense offered by his legal team, give the impression he’s not taking any of it seriously.

Prosecutors have alleged War Machine — born Jonathan Koppenhaver — brutally raped and bashed his ex-girlfriend, former adult film actor Christine Mackinday, 23, and choked and punched her friend Corey Thomas.

The allegations, dating back to May 2013 and culminating in a near-fatal attack in August last year, amount to 34 charges, including five counts of sexual assault and two of attempted murder. The world saw the results of his alleged frenzy of violence in photographs that Mackinday — better known as Christy Mack — posted to social media from her hospital bed.

But defense lawyer Brandon Sua attempted to undermine those charges as his trial opened this week by arguing that Mackinday’s line of work indicated consent and had instilled in her “the desire, the preference, the acceptability towards a particular form of sex activities that were outside of the norm.”

Sua said the pair had met while Mackinday was filming a pornographic movie and engaged in rough sex throughout their relationship. He told the Clark County District Court she had accused Koppenhaver of sexual assault in the past but had dropped charges rather than face a trial.

The defense ploy sparked a lengthy legal debate during which prosecutors argued that rape shield laws should limit the ability of defendants to introduce evidence of victims’ sexual history and prohibit the defense from revealing details of Mackinday’s movies to a jury, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.

“Because she consented to those acts through her course of employment does not mean the defendant is then entitled to think he can do that to her,” Chief Deputy District Attorney Jaqueline Bluth said. “You can’t make that leap.”

District Judge Elissa Cadish questioned whether pornography established consent.

“I don’t see how any of those activities that she did in adult movies would ever show her consent to the acts with the defendant that he’s charged with,” she said. “I’m not seeing that connection.”

However, the judge did ask Sua to submit a written motion detailing the sexual history between Koppenhaver and Mackinday.

While this legal exchange was under way — at the point where Sua raised Mackinday’s past and unpursued rape allegations against his client — Bluth interrupted to alert the court of inappropriate behavior by War Machine.

“Judge, for the record, Mr. Koppenhaver just blew a kiss at me,” she said, according to the Review-Journal.

Sua said he did not see it.

“I’m not going to make up that he blew a kiss at me, which I find offensive,” Bluth retorted.

Cadish then turned to address Koppenhaver, seated in the jury box, shackled and dressed in an orange jumpsuit.

“Mr. Koppenhaver, stop. You are not to make any gestures of any kind toward counsel. Don’t go there,” the judge said.

Koppenhaver smiled and replied, “Yes, ma’am.”

A police report tendered to the court described the full horror of Mackinday’s injuries and as well those allegedly inflicted on her friend Thomas, who was present during the alleged Aug. 8 incident.

They stated Koppenhaver attacked Mackinday and Thomas in her home near the Las Vegas National Golf Club.

Koppenhaver burst into the home and accused Mackinday of cheating on him before assaulting Thomas, the report said.

Police allege Koppenhaver choked and punched Thomas for nearly 10 minutes before telling him to leave and warning him not to call police.

The court heard Mackinday dialed 911 while Thomas was being attacked and then hid the mobile phone. Koppenhaver allegedly punched her as they went into a bathroom before he forced her to take a shower.

Mackinday sustained a “blowout” fracture to her left eye and numerous broken bones in her face, two missing teeth, a lacerated liver, broken ribs and serious bruising in several places.

Sua said text messages from Koppenhaver’s phone would call into question the validity of Mackinday’s statements.

He said text messages from the night of the alleged attack showed “ample evidence of (Mackinday) enticing Koppenhaver to come over that evening, ample evidence of her consenting to him being there.”

Prosecutors said they had no idea that Koppenhaver had kept the phone. The ex-Bellator MMA and Ultimate Fighting Championship fighter was arrested in California after going on the run for a week after the attack.

Cadish ordered Sua to turn the phone over to prosecutors by next week after Bluth said she needed to review all of the messages.

The defendant has legally changed his name to War Machine but was referred to as “Mr. Koppenhaver” in court.

The attempted murder and sexual assault trial of a former mixed martial arts fighter took an unexpected turn on Tuesday when a once-potential juror showed up to court with a gift of sorts for the man who calls himself War Machine.

The unidentified woman arrived with a smile and handed a small manila envelope to the marshal in Courtroom 15B, despite not being selected in the high-profile case, which saw its second day of testimony on Tuesday, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports. War Machine is accused of viciously attacking ex-girlfriend and former porn star Christine Mackinday in a jealous outburst over a new boyfriend.

The woman had penned a letter with what appeared to be a handmade blue leather bracelet inscribed with the word “grace” on it. The gesture confused both defense attorneys and prosecutors, leading them to approach District Judge Elissa Cadish’s bench to inspect the envelope’s contents.

The letter’s contents were not made public, but attorneys said the woman wrote that she was praying for War Machine — born Jonathan Paul Koppenhaver — and asked others to do the same. She also wrote that someone close to her was serving time behind bars under similar circumstances, the newspaper reports.

Cadish ruled that the woman should be allowed to write Koppenhaver, who remains held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas. The package, however, would need to be mailed and processed to Koppenhaver just as it would any other inmate, she said.

The letter was simply “private thoughts” that the woman wanted to share with Koppenhaver, according to his defense attorney, Jay Leiderman, who called the gesture “very sweet.”

Prosecutor Jacqueline Bluth, meanwhile, objected to allowing the woman to present Koppenhaver with a package, calling it “absolutely inappropriate.”

Witness testimony continued in the case after the onetime potential juror appeared with her note, including that of two officers who responded to the initial 911 call made by Mackinday. One of the cops testified that she was traumatized by seeing the former porn star’s extensive injuries, LasVegasNow.com reports.

“Geez, her face was completely swollen; both eyes just puffy and closed,” said Officer Somalia Shepard. “Her teeth were — two of her teeth were missing. She had dry blood around her mouth and her nose. She had bruising on her leg. She just complained of pain.”

Prosecutors on Monday began their case against Koppenhaver, who legally changed his name during his 19-fight MMA career, with opening statements of his trial on 34 counts, including attempted murder, kidnapping and sexual assault. Roughly an hour before the early-morning attack on Aug. 8, 2014, Koppenhaver and Mackinday — known by her stage name, Christy Mack — had exchanged “I love you” text messages, according to Leiderman.

“And then it all breaks loose,” Leiderman told jurors.

Koppenhaver, 35, has pleaded not guilty and faces up to life in prison if convicted. He was arrested outside Los Angeles a week after the alleged attack in Las Vegas.

LAS VEGAS (KSNV News3LV) — "It’s been a real long three years. I'm so ready for this to be over."
That’s what Christy Mack said to Judge Elissa Cadish on Monday during the sentencing phase for Jonathan Koppenhaver at the Regional Justice Center.
Koppenhaver — the former MMA fighter also known as War Machine — received life in prison with the possibility of parole after 36 years after being convicted in March on 29 of 34 felony counts tied to the sexual assault and beatings of Mack and Corey Thomas.
Koppenhaver would be 71 years old if he makes parole on the first try.

“Being suffocated was the worst physical feeling I have ever known," she said.
Koppenhaver spoke more about his regrets.
"I hate this happened,” he said. “I hate I hurt the woman I love. I hate I hurt my family ... teammates. I hate I hurt my career."

Mack said that whatever the sentence imposed would not matter, nor change Koppenhaver.
Mack said, "I don't know if my life will be complete in 12 years or 20 years or 30 years, but I do know when he gets out he will kill me," she said.
The defense says they will appeal.

End of story, hopefully.

Christy Mack Releases Gut Wrenching Statement On War Machine’s Life Sentence (http://mmaimports.com/2017/06/christy-mack-releases-gut-wrenching-statement-on-war-machines-life-sentence/)
June 6, 2017

War Machine, the mixed martial artist formerly known as Jon Koppenhaver, was sentenced to 36 years to life in prison for the assault of former girlfriend Christy Mack. Now, Christy Mack has come forward with a statement on the situation.

Christy Mack read the following letter to the court before War Machine’s sentence was stated.

“I just wrote this last night. I’ve been putting it off, obviously. It’s been a really long three years, and I’m so ready for this to be over, and this is the last thing I’m going to say about this case and about how this has affected me personally.

(Reading from letter)

“Last night, I looked back through my journals at the things I had written when I had just needed to get the words out. I kept them so I didn’t actually have to speak the words that I knew were wrong. In reviewing them, I thought it would help me refresh my memory of what it felt like three years ago when everything was so fresh. But as I looked through them, I realized I didn’t need a crash course in my consciousness from years ago. I still carry all those same feelings and memories that I have today.

“I love Jon, and I know in some way he loved me, too. We were far from a conventional couple in an ordinary relationship. We didn’t have normal jobs. We didn’t keep normal hours. We had the opportunity to spend copious amounts of time together, and we shared every aspect of our lives with the entire world. When we met, I wasn’t looking for a relationship or any sort of companionship at all. I was sick the day we worked together; he seemed genuinely concerned for my well-being and continued to check on me for days after. When I felt better, he made plans to see me in (Las) Vegas, and after that the first three months that we were together were beautiful. He was so interesting to me. He was full of energy and so passionate about everything. I was drawn to his tenacity, and Jon was different from anyone I had ever known.

“After the first few months, things began to change. It started with just a slap and rapidly became exponentially worse. I’ve had my head split open from somersaulting into a fireplace. I’ve experienced being lifted from my throat countless times, choked unconscious, or dragged around by my head. I’ve been punched and kicked, smothered and bitten. I have been raped and tortured. (I remember) taking a breath for a scream, only to be met with a hand over my nose or mouth, not knowing if I will ever be able to breathe again. It’s the most terrifying experience of my life, and I was met with this more times than I can count, and I still cry every time I think about how it feels. I flinch when anyone puts their hand near my face. I hold my breath when I hear an unfamiliar noise. I become nearly unconsolable when I hear parents chastise their children, because they’re just saying words that I would hear from my abuser – constantly berating me, asking me what I was sorry for, asking me why I was crying, asking why I had to do these actions. He hit me or smothered me until I stopped crying or passed out.

“Now I feel uncomfortable around men or people in general. I don’t leave my house unaccompanied if at all possible. I have shortened my list to about five trusted people, so that means not leaving the house for days or weeks at a time. I began going to the gym recently and got a trainer as a way of trying to get out of my house, because I know that’s not a way to live.

“I would say these things because I feel I should be generally safe in my house, but that’s not true. I’ve had the police come out more than once for not knowing if the noise I heard was something benign or somebody trying to kill me. I can’t function in a normal way daily any more. I don’t see my friends, and I don’t have relationships. My family has noticed a difference in me and have experienced their own changes. My mother moved to Las Vegas with me when I came from Indiana. She lived with me and watched my relationship with Jon from beginning to end. When I went to the hospital, she truly felt responsible and blamed herself for not reporting the abuse that she had witnessed. As I lay in a hospital bed, she came and I told her not to cry. I hadn’t seen myself, but I knew that I was bloody. From that day, we’ve both lost about 30 pounds each. We both become instantly afraid of our surroundings, and we never truly felt safe again.

“Over the years, I’ve tried to regain my independence. I live alone now, with an advanced security system, and I get to travel sometimes, though never alone. If I go for more than 12 hours without speaking to my mother, she fears the worst. She has to make sure I haven’t been forcibly taken and beaten again. I would say it’s an irrational fear, but after years of being told he would send people after me, or if I ever told someone, I don’t feel like it’s such a stretch.

“Since the day I was able to see the screen on my tablet, I was met with messages and emails detailing what he should have done to me. I was told he should have finished the job and killed me. I was told I was nothing but a *****, and I got what I deserved. It was even implied by the defense team that it wasn’t that bad, and I was just doing it for attention. The tweets came in droves of how he should beat and rape me since he hadn’t completed his task. I live in constant fear of these things coming to fruition, and others acting on this belief that he’s done nothing wrong.

“The only positive that I can mention that’s come from this experience are all of the people that I’ve been able to help. I did not expect so many letters and messages and emails telling me their stories and sharing the most intimate parts of their lives with me. After I left the hospital, I spent hours every day reading these messages and taking on all the deep emotion that they had put into their words to me. It will be with me for a long time, remembering all the terrible things these people have experienced and all the cruelty and hatred in the world.

“I reached the realization that I could have, and I would have died. I don’t know why I got up. As I lay on the floor, beaten and bloodied, I felt nothing. I was totally numb. I could have laid down and died and felt nothing when he’d gotten that knife. But I took those letters as a sign that I could truly help others with my experiences. Years later now, people tell me how much seeing my story unfold and seeing me stand up to my abuser has helped them. I can’t tell you how many women, men and even children have reached out asking for resources and advice. Some of them just want to be heard and share their hardships with someone who understands. This is something that motivates me every day and makes me continue to share my life, even when it becomes nearly unbearable.

“It’s hard to tell people how much it hurts to hear the cruel things that people say to me every day, and how hard it is dealing with triggers, or even being alone in my own home. I don’t get to share my true thoughts or feelings a lot, or talk about the ways this has affected me personally. I feel that I have to stay strong for every woman that draws inspiration to leave their abusive situation and find ways to move on. Every day is a chance to try to improve myself, work toward my mental health, and improve my relationships with everyone around me. I am still a work in progress. I don’t know how long he deserves to be in prison. I don’t know how much time would make me feel good or would make me feel right. When we were in talks before the trial even began, with the plea deals, Ms. Bluth had asked me if 16 years felt sufficient. I thought about it, and I said I could build a really good life in 16 years. How do you really put a time on a life lived. I don’t know if my life will feel complete in 12 or 20 or even 30 years, and neither do you. But I do know that when he gets out, he will kill me.

“The outcome today isn’t my decision, but I have trusted the court through this whole process, and I hope that the justice system won’t let me down after all these years of being a victim. I would really like to be able to say to everyone that they can trust in the justice system, and they should press charges against their abuser. There are so many people, women and men alike, that don’t go the justice route and just let things take their course. And I want them to know there is justice out there. Thank you.”
