Greetings,

Beyonce "Deja Vu" This was performed at the 2006 World Music Awards. The man of the hour was Michael Jackson. Beyonce's performance began with a series of group freezes that were an homage to him. This clip features her finest live performance of this piece. Everything was perfect. In this piece, Beyonce vocally/creatively samples from the final duel piece featured in Sergio Leone's "For a Few Dollars More" by Ennio Morricone.

Okay I am obviously slow. But for anyone that wants to have the video links show up as a video in their post here or elsewhere.

Under the title bar of your message before you write one. Second bar down . Look for the film frame icon. Click that and copy and paste the youtube or whatever address into the pop up. You'll figure it out. I just did. Enjoy.

Hi Billy,

Don't worry, guys, I figured it out only recently myself. Gene had described how to do it before, but I didn't get it until he suggested it again maybe a month ago. The only thing I DON'T like about embedding videos is that you can only do one per post.

I don't have that icon. When I need to post up, I do see a field of icons for a split second and then it is quickly covered by the rectangular box for typing. Either way, the message gets through.

Beautiful song, Matt! Thanks for posting it.

Every time I hear the following song by Cusco, I always imagine it as the soundtrack for the training sequences in an epic Kung Fu movie...the kind they don't make anymore. I imagine the sequences filmed against a spectacular backdrop of mountains, rivers and plateaus. The scenes would be filmed both from the ground and from the air. The only thing this song lacks is a sudden ending, which would perfectly fit the completion of the protagonist's training scenes.

Greetings,

The following is from an excellent film, "Melinda", which happened to be the first film Jim Kelly had a part in. If there is anything sad about the Melinda soundtrack it is that there were tracks that were in the movies that never made it to the album and they were darn tootin' good.

I like this and the previous song, We Built This City, also by Starship, even though co-singer Grace Slick (originally of Jefferson Airplane/Jefferson Starship) thinks these 80s songs suck. I understand where she was coming from, but IMO, gratitude for one's opportunities is an important quality, even if you don't feel it's up to your personal standards. These songs obviously helped enrich her financially, probably more than her work in the 1960s and 70s.

I met Rita Coolidge. Cool woman, very down to earth. I was very familiar with her work in the '70s and early '80s. One of the great singing voices of that era. "All Time High" is not necessarily my favorite song oh hers, but it was my favorite Bond theme (though the movie itself wasn't a favorite of mine).

Vanessa has a few performances up on youtube of The Devil's Trill.
This one was at the Palast in Berlin back when Germany was Germany.

Quite a good performance, she was 21 then. I wish she had stayed with music. The world has enough Alpine Skiers.
I just researched it out. Her Tiger Mother, nearly, if not actually, destroyed her. Very sad. This is the reason for her musical career fluctuation.
I've been wondering what was the reason for a long while.
What a waste of a virtuoso!

This was on of the best versions IMO of the famous Russian song. Couldn't find it in better quality.
Beautiful women too, sometimes if you touch them they like it. ;)

Apple trees and pear trees went into blooming,
River mists began a floating flow,
She came out and went ashore, Katyusha!
On the lofty bank, on the steeply shore.

She came out and sang she song about
Her young friend, the bluish eagle from steppe
All about the one she dearly loved,
The one whose letters she treasured and kept.

Hey, a song, the song of the young girl,
Fly and go after the bright Sun,
Find a soldier on the distant borderlands
Say hello from Katya waiting long for him.

Let him remember the young and simple maiden,
Let him hear the song she now sings,
Let him protect his Motherland for sure,
And their love Katyusha will protect.

Bella Ciao sung to a montage of Beautiful Army Girls

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2sK3cloquDo

Bella Ciao can be translated as "My Beautiful" or "My Love" or "Beautiful Woman".

"Bella Ciao" is a beautiful spirited Italian partisan song which originated during the Italian civil war. It is used worldwide as a hymn of freedom and resistance

One morning I woke up
O bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao
One morning I woke up
And I found the Hegira!

Oh partisan, carry me away,
O bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao
Oh partisan, carry me away,
For I feel I'm dying

And if I die as a partisan
O bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao
And if I die as a partisan
You have to bury me

But bury me up in the mountain
O bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao,
But bury me up in the mountain
Under the shadow of a beautiful flower

And the people who will pass by
O bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao,
And the people who will pass by
Will say to me: "what a beautiful flower"

This is the flower of the partisan
O bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao
This is the flower of the partisan
Who died for freedom

I agree that Karen Carpenter had an awesome voice. I've always detected a touch of sadness when I hear her songs, even the happier ones.

Janis Joplin barely made it into the 1970s, and it would be interesting to see how she would have evolved as an artist had she lived. Her earlier songs were often way intense; she was perhaps the most intense singer up to that point, leaving other singers like Grace Slick and Mama Cass in awe. Shortly before her death, Janis was advised to start changing her singing style or risk having a short career by destroying her vocal cords. It was advice she took to heart. This song is an example of the direction she was headed:

A huge touch of sadness, yeah. That's the twist that really makes the music. It's all over her face and body language in the videos too. And they put them in this 70s TV environment that doesn't want to have anything to do with that. It's weird watching this stuff so many years later, being so much older than those kids. They were grownups and heroes,..... now, knowing more about what people are about you can see them differently. Hard to describe. Less perfect more human.

Very true. It often happens that high-level art is born out of pain.

And yes, I do believe in reincarnation, for reasons I won't go into here. Perhaps the soul chooses certain life conditions that will help bring forth certain previous/inherent talents that it wants to express.

I put on red lipstick, I’m red (red)
My cuteness that makes you wanna bite me is like art
Every night, you think of me like spicy ramen
Come in first if you like me

Hyuna’s back A better body than anyone else
is a full option for me
I’m gonna warm up and run
Because that red thing, that’s me
Now I’m gonna go up on stage

Don’t leave me,
I’m so lonely right now
At least you don’t leave me,
I’m the only one here
I might change right now

A monkey’s butt is red, what
Red is Hyuna, Hyuna is yeah
A monkey’s butt is red, what
Red is Hyuna, Hyuna is ah

(Oh~ Eh Oh Eh Oh)
Uh, uh red is Hyuna
(Oh~ Eh Oh Eh Oh)
Uh, uh red is Hyuna

Everyone stop,
I’ll punish you so stick out your butt
You won’t be able to handle me every night
Say H Y U N and A

“Misirlou”

It’s only in the film for roughly a minute, but it comes on fast, hard, and confident. It’s like a bolt of lightning on the beach, a perfect declaration of this movie’s arrival. Or, as Tarantino said it best in 1994, the song “throws down a gauntlet that the movie now has to live up to.”

PULP FICTION Misirlou Di c k Dale & His Del-Tones

Tarantino should do a remake of Pulp Fiction based on the Clinton Crime Family.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2K14qx3IKe8

"Misirlou" is a traditional song from the Eastern Mediterranean region. The earliest recordings of the song are a 1919 Egyptian composition called Bint Misr and a 1927 Greek rebetiko composition influenced by Middle-Eastern music. There are also traditional Arabic (belly dancing), Jewish (klezmer), Armenian, Persian and Turkish versions of the song.

The song gained worldwide popularity through **** Dale's 1962 American surf rock version, originally titled "Miserlou", which popularized the song in Western popular culture. Various versions have since been recorded, including other surf and rock versions by bands such as The Beach Boys, The Ventures, and Consider the Source as well as international orchestral easy listening (exotica) versions by musicians such as Martin Denny and Arthur Lyman. Dale's surf rock version later gained renewed popularity through its use in the 1994 Quentin Tarantino film Pulp Fiction and again through its sampling in The Black Eyed Peas song "Pump It" (2006) and Mad Men: "The Jet Set" (2008). A cover of Dale's surf rock version was included on the Guitar Hero II video game released in 2006.

I'll tell me ma - Sinéad O'Connor

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0_XRoUVYOM

SINEAD O'CONNOR LYRICS
"I'll Tell Me Ma"

I'll tell me Ma when I go home
The boys won't leave the girls alone.
They pull my hair, they stole my comb,
but that's alright till I go home.

[Chorus:]
She is handsome, she is pretty
She is the belle of Belfast city
She is courtin' one, two, three.
Please won't you tell me, who is she?

Albert Mooney says he loves her,
All the boys are fighting for her.
They knock at the door and ring at the bell
Saying "Oh, my true love are you well?"
Out she comes as white as snow,
Rings on her fingers and bells on her toes.
Oul Jenny Murray says she'll die,
If she don't get the fellow with the roving eye.

[Chorus]

Let the wind and the rain and the hail blow high
and the snow come tumblin' from the sky
She's as nice as apple pie
And she'll get her own lad by and by.
When she gets a lad of her own,
she won't tell her Ma when she goes home
Let them all come as they will
For it's Albert Mooney she loves still.

[Chorus]

We brought one with us.

I know the time frame seems wrong. I know. You forget who Scots and Irish also are.

Brought him them. The Indian got mad.

This song is from one of my favorite cornball '80s MA/action flicks, No Retreat, No Surrender. I mainly loved it due to its unintentional comedy. The fights were pretty good, too, as the movie was the first American/international movie directed and choreographed by Corey Yuen, an opera-school classmate of Jackie Chan. It was also Jean-Claude Van Damme's American movie debut. It was clearly written as a small-scale ripoff of Rocky 4. Oddly enough, I like this movie much better than Rocky 4.

As stereotypically '80s rah-rah as this song might sound to some people, I like it, and it's stuck with me for 30 years now.

That one is so iconic and haunting. Hard to believe it's come around again; we're in times even worse than those.

I don't believe so and if we are then ideally we will be lead out of it. I hold my ground. In general race relations have gone south. The best time period for getting I believe was the 90's.

BUT, some smart dudes can come along and manipulate this and bring us right back to HATE ! Easy to do. Most people believe what you show them . Its magic. Well symbology.

EXAMPLE- Show ROOTS during the campaign. Have the KKK show up to the other guy. Oh yeah. That's PRIMAL.

The difference between those times and now is that, I believe, there's more people now who are more evolved ... societally, spiritually and perceptively ... than there were then. There's more people who are willing and able to see a bigger picture than is being force-fed to them by the mainstream media and conventional belief systems, many of which are plain bad.

I don't think this country is any more racist than in the past; it's simply that Trump's rhetoric has emboldened many of those who feel disenfranchised and choose to hate and blame others for their own shortcomings due to their own inferiority complexes (which is ironic), and because those others are 'Other'. It was already there to begin with and is now exposed, whether he intended this result or not. I'm not saying that most of his supporters are of that ilk, but you cannot deny that many of his most ardent supporters certainly are.

Then you have those on the opposite side behaving almost as badly.

As far as being lead out of it, IMO the only real solution is to lead ourselves out of it. Otherwise it's the blind leading the blind. We can only overcome our own ignorance and hate when we're willing and able to work at eliminating it within ourselves. It takes WORK. It also takes a higher degree of self-perception, spiritual maturity and personal responsibility. Many talk the talk but are unwilling to do that work.

I will say that, in many ways, the times now are more dangerous in the U.S. in ways that are unnecessary to point out. But a lot of that is because there is more instant awareness of everything now.
