This has to be guarded against. It is almost always younger men. Often encouraged by older men.

Words, images and all that. DO CAUSE EFFECT. Yes, video games and music alter ones perceptions and beliefs. Its no lie. It is military science. There is a whole wonderful world of wicked wisdom to draw from.

LMFAO. I miss Mr. Carlin's observations. Thanks man.

Okay I need to concentrate on what I need to get done. I have focus issues when I don't want to do something.

Have fun fellows.

The Glow (from "The Last Dragon"): When I saw this movie, this piece really caught my attention. I still like it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFjEAVAvj-Q

Somehow, "The Glow" reminds me very much of the theme music to "The Streetfighter". Maybe it is because they are both about manifesting; or, maybe, "The Glow" was inspired by that theme. :

Thanks for posting those, mickey! Good songs both.

My personal favorite song from The Last Dragon was this one. IMO, the soundtrack of The Last Dragon was mostly better than the movie itself. Brings back memories of the mid-'80s and of wearing funny-looking clothes (by today's standards). :)

Greetings,

Billy Paul "Let Em In" :

This was a different take on Sir Paul McCartney's classic. The "black owned" radio stations played sanitized versions of this piece, removing the sound bites of the revolutionaries that you will hear. It is a beautiful piece that actually did well in the UK. Sir Paul did like it, as well.

I never heard this version. Nice... I like it a whole lot better than the original (which was torture hearing 10 times an hour on the radio, sitting in a school bus in the 70s)

Dua Lipa:

"Blow Your Mind" : I just recently learned about this piece. It has Frank Sinatra written all over it and he would set this piece on fire if he was alive and in his singing prime. Each time I hear this, I replace the singer's voice with Frank's and I get the major chills. It is so his style.

DropKick Murphys: Barroom Hero:

https://youtu.be/wpIVk2AY3sw

this was the original dropkick murphy's in 1997... a bit different from the later inception of the band that became more popular. the singer here, a boston fire-fighter, moved on to a band called "the street-dogs." I knew the original drummer for the dropkick's too (seen in the video). my friend's older brother was in a band, and when they played live they would often be without a drummer and he always filled in for them. super-nice guy.

bar-room hero:
"..because this arrogant fool breaks every rule/ it will be nothing but pride that kills him,
did he listen no he won't/ that's all she wrote/ he'll be dead before the daylight shines
but the thoughts and prayers, of a MILLION STRONG/ Might keep this fool from dying."

Thanks Jimbo. I really like this song. I know it, but not well enough. The music I keep going back to is the music I listened to when I was younger, and a less disciplined person, because that is the music I still know best. I need to open up/ be aware of more musicians such as Al Jarreau.

It's all good, Matt. There's so much good music out there, that there's room for all preferences. My own musical preferences are varied, but mostly span from the early 1960s to the early '90s; a few from the late '90s. Not much after that.

Glad you liked a clip. That was pretty to look at. Natures wrath can be beautiful just don't get caught on the receiving end.

We had over 2000 lines down here. Poles snapped in half. Most leaned. Likely hundred if not thousands of trees broke in half or were up rooted. One of the videos said pine trees. Evergreens or whatever. We had hardwood trees get ripped out and break in half too. I saw a top coat ( shingles and hotmopped most likely ) ripped off a store at one of the plazas. I was in my car in the parking lot down a bit. That was the only actual thing I witnessed. I saw some good sized branches go down and things like garbage cans blowing down the street. But I missed the good stuff.

It is going to be expensive.

Aretha Franklin "Sparkle" Soundtrack: While it is well known that Aretha could really belt it out as a singer, the meticulous care with which she sang on this album was absolutely outstanding, She knew when to vocally surge forth and to hold back allowing her soft tones caress the diction of her words. I do not think there is another album that so deftly showcased her abilities. I she got a Grammy nomination for one of the singles. If only she could have gotten a lot more. Working with the incredible material of the late Curtis Mayfield:

Booz Scaggs' Silk Degrees has been a favorite album of mine since I bought a copy at age 13, when it first came out in 1976. It's still in my top 3 favorite albums. Earlier in this thread I entered a couple of songs from the album, and here's a third. It's a cover of an Allen Toussaint song, which is excellent. However, I happen to like Boz's version a little better (YMMV).

We don't need to add to it anymore. Im just a mirror to what I see going on. Combine that with history and or religion and fantasy. Its all scar tactics. Blow back worldwide and inside everybody's country. We don't need to add to it anymore. No matter what anyone says you are wrong. Or you are right. No one believes the together because both sides tells the truth and lies. It is not just America specific. It is everyone.

Them Tibetan monks still praying for the world ? Sure hope so. They could probably use some more monks to pray with them.

Its you fault. No its your fault. Fiction writers are out of a job. I suspect news agenecies worldwide too. Me, Im going to love my family. Hope for the best. Try not to provoke anyone. Hope everyone thinks like I do. When good can be made to look like evil and vice versa . We are ****ed. All of us.

Best wishes to all of you not involved with killing anyone. What a thing to say in a Kung Fu or any martial forum. Its what we try to learn to do. LOL.

I have no more music. No one is festive anywhere.

Billy,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

In truth, we create our reality, both individually and by consensus, through our thoughts. Both consciously and subconsciously. It took me years to realize that. For years I suffered from depression. Sometimes more heavily than others. I was focused on the negative and felt the futility of it all. I won't go into all the details. I finally got myself out of it, without therapy or medication. But it was gradually, over a long time. I had to realize (as opposed to just knowing intellectually) that my deepest thoughts and beliefs (about myself) dictated my reality. I'm still working on it, but now things are MUCH better.

I can choose to focus on the positive or the negative. That doesn't mean that real life stops happening or that difficult life challenges don't pop up. It simply means I'm making a choice. Like tuning to a different radio station. Other people don't get to decide how I feel; I do. I still get ticked off once in a while, but I no longer give others the power to decide how I'm going to feel.

I'm going to be 54 this year. My life is more than half over now. I'm choosing to spend whatever time I have left here, NOT to make 'the world' better, but contribute to making my little slice of it a little bit better, however big or small that ends up being.

Anyway, take whatever I said with a grain of salt, or however you will. It's just my 2 cents' worth.

Personally I always gravitated towards the punk rock. I like the folk roots, ska beats and reggae influence. Some is just noise, I wouldn't particularly care to listen to anymore. I recently got back into the Studio Ghibli anime movies after about 14 years, and saw The Secret World of Arrietty for the first time. As always, I prefer the original language (Japanese) version. A wonderful movie, and I really liked this theme song. I was surprised to find this Japanese version of the song was sung by Cecile Corbel, a musician/singer from Brittany (France). She also sang the English version.

I especially liked the combination of Celtic sound with the Japanese lyrics.

When I was a kid, I (and apparently many other people) believed this was some 'lost' early Beatles song; and I was certain that John Lennon was the lead vocalist. Even the lyrics sound like something Lennon would have written and sung in the Beatles' mid-'60s period. The Knickerbockers were actually an American group from New Jersey.

BY YVETTE TAN

As they say, everyone has a price.

Pharrell co-wrote and performed a new song in China to celebrate Singles' Day — the world's biggest shopping holiday.

This year, Chinese shoppers spent $25 billion on Alibaba's Taobao site in just 24 hours, blowing events like Black Friday completely out of the water.

Pharrell and his co-performer, Chinese-Canadian singer Kris Wu, were onstage for Alibaba's huge extravaganza celebrating the shopping day.

There's no way any description could do this song justice, so you'll have to just listen for yourself:

If your ears couldn't make it through that cringefest, we'll sum it up for you.

The song, titled "Double Eleven Day" is a reference to the date that Singles' Day is celebrated on Nov. 11.

The duo appear to be singing a song encouraging Chinese consumers to stay up and buy goods. Here's a choice line: "You know the world's watching wishing they could participate, there's gonna be a lot of people in the world staying up late, Double Eleven day. Hey China!"

Pharrell and Wu also take turns to sporadically shout out "Zhongguo!", which means "China."

They also repeat phrases like "shiyi, shiyi", which means "11, 11" in Chinese.

"The song should be illegal."

People on Facebook were pretty horrified by the duet.

"This is the worst thing either of them have ever been involved with," said one user on Facebook in response to the video.

"The song should be illegal," another added.

However, people on Chinese social media website Weibo weren't nearly as harsh.

"The melody's nice. Listening to it puts me in a good mood and [like I want] to spend money," said one user.

"Listening to this song makes me feel...I can't describe it...it's like a very comforting feeling," says this Weibo user
IMAGE: 全职妮儿/WEIBO

"Such a nice duet! A commercial song done well," another added.

Like Amazon in the U.S., Alibaba Taobao is undisputably the king of ecommerce in China, and therefore the biggest winner over Singles' Day, which it was hyping up for months.

Pharrell wasn't the only big name on stage for Alibaba's celebration. Other Western celebs like Nicole Kidman, Maria Sharapova, and Jessie J were up on stage for the gala, too.

Also, shoutout to Jessie J who very unironically sang Price Tag in celebration of the biggest spending event in the world.

It's all about the money, money, money.

Heck, just to be mischievous, I'm copying this post from the Single Day (http://www.kungfumagazine.com/forum/showthread.php?70558-China-s-Single-Day) thread to the Fav Song one (http://www.kungfumagazine.com/forum/showthread.php?68523-Perhaps-a-thread-to-put-up-you-favorite-songs). Hi, rett2.

Nice posts. Yes, Whisper of the Heart is a good one. As you're probably aware, the follow-up to it, The Cat Returns, is also good, but more comedic.

A bit of trivia:
The female co-main character in Makoto Shinkai's earlier work, The Garden of Words, Yukari Yukino, also makes a brief appearance in Your Name as Mitsuha's teacher. I like the fact that Shinkai is incorporating some crossover in his movie universe.

I normally don't like current pop music, but somehow I like this opening theme to Your Name, and even Radwimps' three other vocal tracks in the movie; they fit into and enhance the movie so well.

Lemon Tree (1996) by Tarcy Su (Taiwan)

A fun song. This is a Mandarin cover of the song by the German Band "Fool's Garden".

Lemon Tree

我一天一天更愛你 我不管不管不管愛會苦苦地
海藍藍的天氣 我的愛是 Lemon Tree(哦...不管不管)

Isolation 想住進你心裡
Isolation 期待下雨 的一棵 Lemon Tree

你總是望著藍藍海面 說著流浪過的夢容易實現
這句話什麼意思 我不清楚

Fool's Garden - Lemon Tree 1995 (Official Video)

This is the original sung in English.

"Lemon Tree" is a song by German band Fool's Garden from the album Dish of the Day, which was released as a single in 1995 and became a major international hit in 1996. The single reached number 26 in the UK charts and remained at number one for several weeks in Germany. It also reached number one in Ireland. Peter Freudenthaler said that he wrote the song on a Sunday afternoon when he was waiting for his girlfriend.

I'm sitting here in a boring room, it's just another rainy
Sunday afternoon. I'm wasting my time, I got nothing to do.
I'm hanging around, I'm waiting for you,
But nothing ever happens - and I wonder.

I'm driving around in my car, I'm driving too fast, I'm
Driving too far. I'd like to change my point of view.
I feel so lonely, I'm waiting for you,
But nothing ever happens - and I wonder.

I wonder how, I wonder why yesterday you told me
'Bout the blue blue sky and all that I can see is just
A yellow lemon tree. I'm turning my head up and down
I'm turning, turning, turning, turning, turning around.
And all that I can see is just another lemon tree.

Sing: dah...

I'm sitting here, I miss the power, I'd like to go out,
Taking a shower, but there's a heavy cloud inside my head.
I feel so tired, put myself into bed, where nothing ever
Happens - and I wonder.

Isolation - is not the good for me.
Isolation - I don't want to sit on a lemon tree.
I'm steppin' around in a desert of joy. Baby anyhow I'll get
Another toy and everything will happen - and you'll wonder.

I wonder how, I wonder why yesterday you told me
'Bout the blue blue sky and all that I can see is just
Another lemon tree. I'm turning my head up and down
I'm turning, turning, turning, turning, turning around
And all that I can see is just a yellow lemon tree.

And I wonder, wonder
I wonder how, I wonder why yesterday you told me

Love, American Style (intro theme, by The Ron Hicklin Singers).

I always hated this show as a kid (and still do), but I always liked this opening theme song (or, more accurately, this version of it). The original version, used in the show's first season, was by The Cowsills, but lacked crispness and energy, IMO. No surprise it was replaced with this version in 1971.

Translation

The bo staff is wide; the bench is long
The bench wants to tie itself to the ends of the bo staff
The bo staff is wide; the bench is long
The bench wants to tie itself to the ends of the bo staff

In London, Marilyn bought a qipao as a gift for her mother
In Mexico, Fuski fell in love with Chinese beef short noodles
People of every skin color
People with hair of every color
What they're reading, what they're saying... Chinese is becoming the new trend

How many years did we painstakingly practice English pronunciation and learn their grammar?
For a change, now it's their turn to get their tongues all in a knot
How smart the Chinese are!-- and how beautiful our language!

The bo staff is wide; the bench is long
The bench wants to tie itself to the ends of the bo staff
The bo staff won't let the bench tie itself to the ends of the bo staff
Instead, the bo staff wants to tie itself to the bench
The bench won't let the bo staff tie itself to the bench
So is the bo staff wide or the bench long?

Elder brother and younger brother sit on a hill
On the hill, there is a swan
At the bottom of the hill runs a river
The elder brother says, "The river is wide."
The younger brother says, "The swan is white."
The swan wants to cross the river; the river wants the swan to cross
Don't know if the swan is crossing the river or the river is crossing the swan

The whole world is learning Chinese
Confucius' words are becoming world culture
The whole world is speaking Chinese
Our language makes the people of the world listen up

In New York, Susanna
Opens up a Chinese style lounge bar
Wolfgang from Berlin
Pairs the erhu with his electric guitar
People of every skin color
People with hair of every color
What they're reading, what they're saying... Chinese is becoming the new trend

How many years did we painstakingly practice English pronunciation and learn their grammar?
For a change, now it's their turn to get their tongues all in a knot
How smart the Chinese are!-- and how beautiful our language!

There once was a child named XiaoDu
Went out one day to buy some vinegar and sell cloth
He sold his cloth, bought his vinegar
Turned around and saw an eagle catching a rabbit
He put down the cloth, cut loose the vinegar
Began to chase the eagle and the rabbit
The eagle flew away; the rabbit ran away
He spilled the vinegar, got the cloth wet
His mouth blamed his legs, his legs blamed his mouth
His mouth blamed his legs, those legs that love to run
His legs blamed his mouth, the mouth that loves to run
Moving just the mouth and not the legs
Moving just the legs and not the mouth
Might as well not have either legs or mouth
Did the mouth blame the legs...
... or the legs blame the mouth?

Panama Dance Craze Compilation with Chinese Dancers

Thais Turn 2013 Romanian Pop Song ‘Panama’ Into Dance Meme (http://www.khaosodenglish.com/culture/net/2017/11/11/thais-turn-2013-romanian-pop-song-panama-dance-meme/)

November 11, 2017

BANGKOK — A horribly catchy 2013 Romanian pop song has become a dance meme among Thais, to the surprise and pleasure of the original artist.

Net idols, netizens and celebrities en masse have been dancing to “Panama” this month, a 2013 song by Romanian artist Matteo. The steps are simple: Draw a Z in the air, do the hula twice and then a twerk.

...

The meme of people dancing to “Panama” seems to have originated from Chinese video-sharing app DouYou, where people shared short clips of themselves dancing to the song as far back as late September. The tune then caught on among Thai net idols in October before really exploding among celebrities and fleet-footed Thais this month.

According to YouTube commenter Fern ja, “Panama” had about 8 million views “when the song started being a hit.” It had gained 13 million views by Nov. 3 and as of Saturday had more than 20 million hits – judging by the comments, they were mostly from Thais.

Celebs that have joined the Panama craze include actresses Janie Tienphosuwan and Chotika “Noey” Wongwilas as well as singer Suteewan Thaveesin, or “Baitoey R Siam.”

Curiously, the “Panama dance” is absent in Matteo’s official video. In its description, a Thai phrase – presumably added recently – says “Full version. Go dance and have fun with it!”

Alone Again (naturally), by Gilbert O'Sullivan

This song might be classified as a bit depressing, and many might see it only as such, but IMO it's also a very beautiful song. Not every song has to be all sunshine and rainbows. There is real feeling in the words, yet it is performed without being overdone. Interestingly, according to O'Sullivan himself, although this song was written by him, it was NOT from any personal experiences in his life (as many believed).

Hey Girl, Look Over Herel - Ritchie Jen Official MTV Version (Chinese and English Subs)

"Girl's Minds are rather strange"....

This song was originally written by the Malaysian singer A Niu (阿牛), but it became more widely popular after it was covered by Richie Ren (任贤齐) in 1998. The lyrics are fun and light-hearted, and it’s a really catchy song.

English

Understand my heart
I long for true feelings
I've been heartbroken by love before
Why is it easy to awaken from sweet dreams?

You have a pair of gentle eyes
You have a kind, understanding heart and soul
If you're willing to let me be close to you
I think you will understand my heart

Starlight glitters, and the wind is light
The most lonely is a girl's heart
bidding farewell to the past love
Heal the scars, never again will I let my tears flow until dawn

I understand your heart
It longs for true feelings

I've been heartbroken by love before
Why is it easy to awaken from sweet dreams?

You have a pair of gentle eyes
You have a kind, understanding heart and soul
If you're willing to let me be close to you
I'm willing to listen to what's on your mind

Understand my heart
I long for true feelings
I've been brokenhearted by love before
Why is it easy to awaken from sweet dreams?
