I should have posted this earlier after we posted last week's ezine offering: From Shaolin Temple to DIE FIGHTING: An Interview with Fabien Garcia (http://www.kungfumagazine.com/ezine/article.php?article=1209) by Corey Danna. This just came available on Hulu+. I stated watching it last night but fell asleep - NOT because it sucked - I was just really tired after several short nights this week (and it's only Tuesday :o). I'll watch it through soon and post my opinion here later.

Not bad for a freshman effort. The plot is simple - four friends are trying to make it in action movies. An anonymous villain called 'the filmmaker' kidnaps Fabien's gf and threatens to kill her unless the four friends do exactly what he says, which is to get in a lot of random fights. Gratuitous absurd violence ensues. It's done in a 'found footage' style so there's a glowing REC in the corner of the screen and lots of rough cuts like a bad horror flick. But it's really about the fight scenes. It's constant fight scenes and the foursome deliver some nice dynamic stuff. There are some overly repeated moves like dropping-an-axe-kick-from-standing-splits, spinning-on-knees, and the classic split-kick-to-hit-some-one-restraining-you-from-behind, plus they speed up the film at points, but all of the four have skills and deliver some spectacular sequences. The Mcguffin was surprising, mostly because the story was a construct to deliver a barrage of action scenes so it was unexpected.

I look forward to their next effort.

I like it! Great chorography and athleticism, showing the fitness range of the actors. believeable plot and a great way to showcase the talents of the crew.

In what kind of crazy world would that plot be in the least bit believable? I'd say it was consistent to itself, like a comic book movie, but not at all believable.

I totally agree with you here. The plot was really just a meager set up to show off a lot of fights. And the fights were decent. The Mcguffin was very amusing and took the plot up a notch, but it was still mostly fight porn. And I mean that in the most flattering of ways. We luv fight porn around here, don't we? ;)
