Tiger Chen, star of “Man of Tai Chi” and “The Matrix,” will team with Danny Chan and Robin Shou in East-meets-West action movie “Kung Fu Cowboy.”
The picture, which goes into production in early 2016, was co-written by W. Earl Brown (“Deadwood,” “Bloodworth”) and Jonathan Lim (“Pali Road”). Lim will also direct and produce.
The film is a co-venture between the U.S.’s Crimson Forrest Entertainment and China’s Huace Media Group and Cuixing Media Group.
The story is a Chinese-Western genre mashup featuring a group of displaced Chinese immigrant workers who fought back against growing racial tensions and discrimination after the building of the U.S. railroads in the 1800s.
“We’re combining two popular pop cult genres and assembling a highly talented cast whose martial arts skills will excite all fans of the genre. This is a piece of forgotten history that needs to revisited, and ironically is thematically still a relevant topic today,” said Lim.
Producers are Jon Chiew of Huace Media Group and Anthony Lim of Cuixing Media Group who will be handling financing and distribution. Other producers include Kenneth Burke and Daxing Zhang. Crimson Forest Entertainment will provide production services.
