The Hung Kuen one ? karate ?
or the multitude in the different Fujian styles.

All these fujian styles have it
Crane, tiger, lion, 5ancestors, lohan, taizu, Dog
and others

It's a good form for developing power. It varies on the school and style, I don't think the sam chien forms from the above styles listed are all exactly the same. I see in your profile it says you know Siu Lum Hung Kuen, does that style have it? I would like to see it if you cou;d tell me where I could find some pictures.

I pratcice the Ngor Chor version of Sam Chien. Actually, it is probably the only set I practice consistently. Excellent set.

I practice sam chin kuen as well. My master learned it from a Chinese Malay, who practiced Tam Gar and Ng Jo Kuen.

All the above styles have different Sam Chien.

In Hung kuen (non Lum Sai Wing) from Guangdong there are these forms that are related to sam chien and tit sin

- Sam Jin
- To Chien
- Sam Gung Tit Sin
- Tit Sin

Ng Cho Sam chien is good, In ngo cho there are around 10 or so similar chien forms most practise san chien regularly and specialise in another as well, such as Jo Hok Chien.

Sounds cool, is there any way I can see these sequences. I am trying to find an original version. The one I learned is concidered Ngoh Mei P'ai. It is similar to okinawan goju ryu, but it utilizes fung-an choy, and double impact strikes-similar to ther three power strike in southern mantis, but the pheonix eye strike first comes out inverted, and slightly upward, then turns over and sinks in for the second strike. I've seen the Ngor Cho version, and it is quite different. I like the double palm strikes and the rotation of the wrists-similar to wing chun.

Could some one fill me in on what this is? Just a couple of words would suffise. Is this a static set 9 movements (using upper body), or am I way off?

Hey, Rik,

How the hell are you? Did you ever get your backpatch club going?

We used to chat on AOL, if you're wondering who the hell I am :-)

Anyway, don't know anything at all about the set your talking about so sorry to interrupt the thread!

EAZ, I think you're talking about the same thing.

The sam chin that I practice is just a few techniques preformed in the goat catching stance (kinda like the stance used in wing chun and tit sin kuen).

I've also seen a few karate clubs practice this kata. It's very similar, but it doesn't seem like they know anything beyond the external aspects of it.

Sam jien kuen is desended from ngor mei p'ai, and seen in such systems as fukien white crane, ngor cho,and okinawan/chinese systms such as goju-ryu,uechi-ryu,etc. It trains iron body through development of weichi, trains the musculature through dynamic tension, infighting, trapping, mapping of vital points, and destruction of iron body-kind of like giving the poison and the antidote in the same form. he expression is "if you learn just one set, learn sam jien kuen"
as far as forming a club goes, I spoke to the guys in local 81, and they were cool with it, but it fell through and is on the back burner for the time being. Couldn't find enough Harley ridin martial artists to start up.
