Tightrope and slackline were trending as good core training a few years back, so I figured we should launch a thread here on it.

Three established acrobats performed a truly high-wire act yesterday after sprinting on a steel wire at nearly 1,000 feet high over a sinkhole in China.

51-year-old Freddy Nock from Switzerland won the 100-metre race (328 feet) after finishing the whole length in 42.04 seconds, the People's Daily Online reports.

The impressive challenge, dubbed 'Running Wireman', was held in Wulong county, a scenic spot in south-west China's Sichuan Province.

Competitor: Maurizio Zavatta, from Italy raced on the 1,000 feet-high steel wire during the so-called 'Running Wireman' competition

During yesterday's match, two 300-metre-long tightropes (984 feet) were suspended across the massive 984-foot-deep Wulong Sinkhole. Each of them was divided into three equal sections.

Results were taken from the time the contestants spent moving across the 100 metres (328 feet) in the middle.

In addition to Swiss man Freddy Nock, two other competitors were Aisikaier Wubulikasimu from China's Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region and Maurizio Zavatta from Italy.

43-year-old Wubulikasimu comes from a region with an acrobatic tradition in west China and is thought to be the most famous tightrope walker in China; while 32-year-old Zavatta is a professional stuntman and circus acrobat.

All three men were required to compete against each other in three rounds. The men were required to run as fast as they could while holding a balancing beam weighing 22 pounds. The person who spent least time covering the length in any of the rounds would be the winner.

Nock won the first round against Wubulikasimu with a result was 42.04 seconds. The winners of the next two rounds were Wubulikasimu, who spent 52.97 seconds, and Nock again with 49.63 seconds.

This made the Swiss man the final winner of the competition.

Nock is well-known for his record-breaking tightrope stunts.

In 2015, he broke the Guinness World Record for the highest tightrope walk. He walked between two Swiss mountaintops beating the previous record which had been standing for 30 years.

Despite being crowned as the champion yesterday in China, Nock is not the world record holder for this extreme sport. The record for 100-meter tightrope walking is kept by his rival Aisikaier Wubulikasimu, who finished the distance in 38.86 seconds in 2013.
