I just copied this off the Conor-McGregor-being-compared-to-Bruce-Lee (http://www.kungfumagazine.com/forum/showthread.php?69168-Conor-McGregor-being-compared-to-Bruce-Lee) thread. There are a few more references to Luke here. I still haven't met him, and his brother has left the job where I associated with him, so I've somewhat lost contact. I just wanted to post this because...well, I don't know why really.

Secret's out ... Demi Lovato is dating UFC superstar Luke Rockhold -- and TMZ Sports has learned it's a romance that's been blooming for a couple months.
Our sources tell us ... the 24-year-old singer hit it off with the 31-year-old former UFC middleweight champ earlier this year while training at Unbreakable gym in Los Angeles.
Long story short ... we're told the two clicked right away -- and have even sent some secret inside messages to each other on social media ... including a back and forth with smiley face art on their fingers.
Congrats!

Of course, Jay owns the Unbreakable gym where Demi has been training over the past year (alongside fighters like Chuck Liddell and Cung Le) and says she's the "real deal."
"She throws elbows better than most of the UFC guys that come in there," Jay says ... "She's definitely one of our fighters without a doubt."

Demi Lovato Is Dating MMA Fighter Guilherme Vasconcelos (http://people.com/music/demi-lovato-guilherme-bomba-vasconcelos-dating/)

GUILHERME VASCONCELOS/INSTAGRAM
Demi Lovato has a knock-out new romance in the new year.

The “Body Say” singer is dating MMA pro fighter Guilherme “Bomba” Vasconcelos, a source tells PEOPLE. The budding relationship comes after she and UFC fighter Luke Rockhold split in December.

“Demi and Luke broke up before Christmas. It wasn’t anything dramatic. The relationship just wasn’t heading where she wanted it to go. Luke was really cool about it, and they were on the same page,” the source says. “She’s started seeing Bomba again. She’s really physically attracted to him.”

The pop star and new flame Vasconcelos were first linked back in July, when an insider told PEOPLE they “had a quick fling” that ended shortly after. But Lovato, 24, and Vasconcelos, 30, have recently rekindled their romance, appearing to ring in the New Year together, as seen in a smiley selfie shared to Vasconcelos’ Instagram.

The athlete also shared a sweet snap with his girlfriend on Tuesday in which Vasconcelos and Lovato have their arms around each other; the 6-foot fighter captioned the post with a simple heart emoji.

Instagram is where much of Lovato and Vasconcelos’ romance rumors first sparked. In a photo of the two he shared on June 8, the Brazilian star implied they might have been locking lips. “After I sparred with a legend @xcnatch.. The one who hit my lip and made me bleed was @ddlovato,” he wrote. “Hehehe…”

Later in June he shared a video of himself celebrating with Lovato after one of his matches. “You did it, you did it,” Lovato told Vasconcelos in the clip, hugging him and kissing him on the cheek.

Lovato and ex Wilmer Valderrama broke up after nearly six years of dating, posting the same statement about the mutual decision to their social media accounts in June.

“This was an incredibly difficult decision for both of us, but we have realized more than anything that we are better as best friends,” the statement read. “We will always be supportive of one another. Thank you to everyone who has offered us kindness and support over the years.”

After Fez, Demi is going for MMA fighters. Yeah, that makes sense, I guess.

Demi Lovato Supports Rumored Boyfriend Guilherme ''Bomba'' Vasconcelos at MMA Fight: All the Exclusive Details! (http://www.eonline.com/news/823605/demi-lovato-supports-rumored-boyfriend-guilherme-bomba-vasconcelos-at-mma-fight-all-the-exclusive-details)

The "Confident" songstress was on hand to support rumored boyfriend Guilherme ''Bomba'' Vasconcelos during the Bellator 170 at The Forum in Los Angeles on Saturday evening, and from the looks of their PDA, these two are most definitely an item.

E! News has all the exclusive details about the MMA champ's game-winning fight, including just how Lovato pumped up the crowd and celebrated Bomba's win with a sweet kiss.

A source tells E! News, Demi, looking gorgeous in tight black pants and a "Team Bomba" T-shirt paired with chunky heeled booties, was escorted to her ringside seat where she watched at least four fights before Bomba's match.

Lovato then chatted up MMA superstar Randy Couture and his girlfriend, actress Mindy Robinson, telling them, "Everything's good! I'm excited!" The pop sensation also shared that although she had seen Bomba fight before, this was her first fight as his girlfriend.

"I'm freaking out!" she told the couple.

http://akns-images.eonline.com/eol_images/Entire_Site/2017021/rs_600x1024-170121195946-634.Demi-Lovato.kg.012117.jpg

Our eyewitness also shares that when it came time for Bomba's fight, Lovato appeared nervous, but as soon as the announcer introduced him into the ring, she started cheering alongside his fans, "Let's go, Bomba! Let's go!"

Throughout the rounds, Demi was seen squirming in her seat and flinching when Bomba was hit. At one point, Demi yelled, "Don't let him up!" when Bomba was on top of his opponent. She then started leading a chant in support of her might-be beau.

As soon as Bomba was declared the winner, our source reveals that Demi began jumping up and down with her hand in the air and hugging everyone around her, including members of Bomba's team.

Lovato, 24, beamed with pride as Bomba made eye contact and pointed at her from the ring. Swoon!

http://akns-images.eonline.com/eol_images/Entire_Site/2017021/rs_615x1024-170121195946-634.Demi-Lovato-Guilherme-Bomba.kg.012117.jpg

Joined by his team, she then made her way backstage to congratulate Bomba. "I'm still shaking," Demi was overheard telling the group as they all celebrated the big win.

As Bomba made his way down the hall to greet his friends and family, Demi smiled from ear to ear. After shaking a few hands, Bomba went straight to Demi where our source tells us they kissed and shared a long embrace. "I'm so proud of you! I'm so proud of you," she told him.

She stood against the wall as he chatted, hugged and celebrated with his friends, before Bomba returned to smooch his potential love interest and whisper in her ear.

Demi officially just put any and all date nights to complete shame.

The main card fights aired live tonight on Spike TV.

Will she stay with him when he loses?

“I’m so beyond excited because I just received my blue belt in #brazilianjiujitsu!!!! I fell in love with #BJJ over a year ago and have been training several times a week ever since,” Lovato, 25, posted on Instagram.

One of her trainers, Jay Glazer, who runs Lovato’s favorite gym, Unbreakable Performance Center, posted about her achievement.

“I’m more proud of the work @ddlovato puts in with nobody watching than I am what she does with the world watching. Congrats on achieving your blue belt today in #bjj, YOU put the grind in!” Glazer wrote.

Lovato trains in several different types of fighting, from boxing to Muay Thai. But she previously said that she loves the specific style that comes with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

“I first got into jiu-jitsu because I loved watching people grapple,” Lovato told SELF. “I think it’s really cool to learn something that helps you with self-defense.”

Lovato got her blue belt just two days after singing the National Anthem at the Floyd Mayweather-Connor McGregor MMA fight, which also happens to be her other favorite style of fighting.

She said that MMA appeals to her because it’s always changing.

“Sometimes I get really bored when I do just an hour of cardio, so sometimes I struggle with boredom,” she explained. “But that’s why I like to train MMA, because it keeps it exciting.”

On the last Saturday night in August, Demi Lovato sang the national anthem at a major sporting event. This was—until recently, anyway—a benignly honorable thing for a pop star to do, a chance to step out from behind the Auto-Tune and requisite choreography and remind the world, Yes, when I want to, I can really ****ing belt it out. This, though, was no ordinary Major Sporting Event. It was the Floyd Mayweather–Conor McGregor fight, one of the more depressing collisions of capitalism and unchecked machismo in recent history, not exactly the ring o’er which our flag has most proudly waved. What Lovato seemed to be reminding the world that night was more along the lines of, Yes, I do have an album coming out soon, and there is very little I won’t do to promote it.

And yet, as is often the case with Demi Lovato, there was more to the story. Though boxing and UFC fans will be forgiven—THIS TIME—for not knowing the biography of a former Disney Channel star, Lovato trains at Jay Glazer’s famed Unbreakable Performance Center, alongside fighters Chuck Liddell and Cung Le. She boxes, has expressed interest in cage-fighting, and, just days after the Mayweather-McGregor fight, she earned a blue belt in jiu-jitsu. Last spring UFC middleweight contender “Suga” Rashad Evans saw Lovato at the gym and Instagrammed a selfie with her, marveling, “She trains crazy hard! Hell, I thought she was training for a fight but they say that’s just how she rolls.”

This fighting spirit was all over her last album, Confident—perhaps to a fault. Demi Lovato has little interest in subtlety, and she sometimes feels like the pop star equivalent of a jammed caps-lock button. “I’D DO ANYTHING FOR YOU!” she wailed on one of Confident’s better songs. “NAIL MY HEART TO THE CEILING! PUT MY FIST THROUGH A WALL!” It made the demolition described in Miley Cyrus’s “Wrecking Ball” seem comparably tame. Elsewhere, she name-checked Ronda Rousey (who was, the fighter tweeted, “really honored”) and on an entirely different song, sang, “Knuckles out and the guard in my mouth / When you’re hungry for the next round, I’ll be waiting for you.” Confident seemed like an album reverse engineered not so much to replicate the success of Katy Perry’s “Roar,” but to hop in the ring and kick its candy-ass.

I am relieved to report that Lovato’s new album, Tell Me You Love Me, is better, more relaxed, and a lot less eager to punch you in the mouth. It’s also a reason to take her seriously as a pop vocalist and a reminder that more people should have been doing so all along.

If you ever have 42 minutes to spare and wish to spend them cultivating respect for Demi Lovato, might I suggest watching Stay Strong, a 2012 documentary about her that aired on MTV. Though she was only 19 at the time it was filmed, she speaks with a wisdom and a candor that transcends the clichés we expect from young celebrities. “There’s days where I don’t think I can make it,” she admits. “And now I’m healthy, but that’s the thing. An addiction is an addiction … and this is a daily battle that I will face for the rest of my life.” The title of the documentary, she reveals halfway through, comes from the cursive tattoos she got on her wrists, partially to cover up her old cutting scars.

Like many child stars, Lovato grew up in dizzying fast-motion. She was a Dallas-raised pageant girl who began acting professionally when she was 7 years old on Barney & Friends alongside another future star, Selena Gomez. (Do yourself a favor and fall down that YouTube hole.) Lovato entered the all-powerful Disney Channel orbit a few years later, and in 2008 her life became a tween dream come true when she was cast as the lead in one of the network’s original movies, Camp Rock, alongside the Jonas Brothers. It became one of the most successful Disney Channel movies in the franchise’s history: Nearly 9 million people watched its premiere, which is more than a million more than watched the youth-cultural phenomenon High School Musical. Camp Rock’s tremendous success rippled beyond the Disney universe when its soundtrack debuted at no. 3 on the Billboard albums chart and the song that Lovato sings in the climactic moment of the film, “This Is Me,” hit no. 9 on the Hot 100. Her life changed overnight, accelerating into a cycle that she remembers as, “Tour, TV show, movie, album. Tour, TV show, movie, album.” In Stay Strong, Lovato sighs, “I was exhausted. I had so many issues underneath that needed to be taken care of, and we just kept putting Band-Aids over it.”

The final Camp Rock tour did not exactly have a Disney-approved ending: After the last stop, Lovato checked herself into rehab. She was only 18, but she was seeking treatment for issues she’d already spent more than a decade dealing with. “I battled depression at a really young age, which started when I was 7 years old,” she said. She has a memory of being 4 years old, touching her stomach in the mirror “and thinking I was fat.” Struggles with bulimia, cutting, and drug use later followed. It took several trips to rehab for her treatment plan to stick and, during her last visit, Lovato was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. (She has since become an advocate for mental health issues and spoke about her experience last year at the Democratic National Convention. A clip of this speech is, for now, the only Demi Lovato video you can access through C-SPAN’s website.)

Contemporary pop music—and especially the kind performed by young women—often traffics in themes of triumph over vaguely defined adversity. (“Do you know what it’s like to feel so in the dark, to dream about a life where you’re the shining star?” Lovato asked on her Camp Rock hit.) When Lovato first checked into rehab, the scandal surrounding a “fallen Disney star” might have seemed like a career death sentence; instead, her honesty in talking about these experiences bound her more intimately to her fan base, who were themselves aging into problems too complicated to be resolved in 22-minute Disney Channel plotlines. The most striking scene in Stay Strong is when Lovato allows a camera crew to film her first Thanksgiving since leaving an eating-disorder treatment center. In moments like these, there’s something poignant, and even symbiotic, about her relationship to her fans. “I didn’t go into treatment thinking, OK, now I’m going to be an inspiration,” she said recently. “At times, I was resentful for having that kind of responsibility, but now, it’s really become a part of my life. It holds me accountable.”

She has, in recent years, returned the favor. She now co-owns an eating-disorder treatment center and brings the center’s CEO on tour with her, as a resource for her fans.

Lovato is one of those omnipresent artists who seems to pop up and perform at every awards show (indeed, the day after Mayweather-McGregor, she joined the VMAs via satellite from Vegas to perform her current hit “Sorry Not Sorry”). But when you know her history, her ubiquity in the music industry feels like a defiant show of will. She is sober in a pop world currently obsessed with party-girl personas, she is a famous person recovering from an eating disorder at a time when internet trolls can snark on her every ounce of body fat. You’d worry about Demi Lovato if she seemed anything less than strong as all hell.

Something else is striking about revisiting Stay Strong: Lovato has become a much better singer since then. Her tone was once a little nasal, her control a little wobbly—not great crimes for a singer of spunky tween-pop songs, but things that would sooner or later have to progress if she was going to successfully transition into a more adult pop singer. It’s happened. Tell Me You Love Me is further proof. Sure, “Sorry Not Sorry” is undeniably fun, and there is a glorious, ridiculous song on this album called “Daddy Issues” that I, too, eagerly await its performance one day on RuPaul’s Drag Race. But the most promising thing about this new album is how Lovato leans into what she does best: high-drama, theater-kid-worthy ballads.

While nobody was looking, Demi Lovato suddenly became one of the great torch singers in contemporary pop. Sure, plenty of fans have known this since her wrenching 2011 hit “Skyscraper,” but her voice has only become more muscular in the past few years. Perhaps the most stunning moment on the new album is the flickering torch song “You Don’t Do It for Me Anymore,” an Adele-grade tearjerker that Demi pulls off with flair. Another highlight is “Crybaby,” a swinging cabaret number that she gives a modern kind of sass. And then there’s the sultry, DJ Mustard–produced “Lonely,” which—like Solange’s “Mad” before it—continues the recent trend of Lil Wayne appearing on female singers’ albums to show a different side of himself on incredibly emo verses (“I can’t see the forest from the tree, the water from the sea and I was starting to believe but it’s a forest full of dreams”).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1vYYw7efPQ

Nearly two years later, though, I remain haunted by Demi Lovato’s finest moment, when she performed the stripped-down Confident ballad “Stone Cold” on Saturday Night Live. Ever the fighter, Lovato shows up to every TV performance like she’s got something to prove, but this one was something else. “If happy is hurt,” she sang, her voice breaking under the weight of feeling, “I’m happy for you.” She seemed, at one point in the song, to be crying, and you almost thought she wasn’t going to make it through. But her voice gathered strength as she went on, as if drawing electricity from dark clouds and finally raining down on her with sweet relief. She was channeling pain from her past and emerging cleansed. Demi Lovato’s music, at its best, is a reminder that vulnerability isn’t weakness. It’s the kind of strong you don’t want to mess with, in or out of the ring.

Demi's on promo tour so she's doing a lot of interviews now. I like her message and hope to work her show if she comes through on tour. A pop diva that can fight? Oh yeah, that's just awesome.

I just wish she'd do Kung Fu. ;)

Love you jay!!!

Alongside Muay Thai, boxing, MMA fighting, functional training and her own fitness fashion line with Kate Hudson’s activewear brand Fabletics, the pop singer took up BJJ over a year ago. She received her belt two days after singing the national anthem at the Mayweather vs McGregor fight in August. Lovato is a huge fan of the male-dominated sport and isn’t afraid to get stuck in with it.

What is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?

Part of the martial arts family, Brazilian jiu-jitsu teaches a smaller person how to defend themselves against a larger person using a set of techniques based on grappling and joint locks and is an adaptation of traditional Japanese Jujutsu. 90 per cent of jiu-jitsu fights end up on the ground, and so the method focuses more on sophisticated ground fighting and submission techniques, using joint-locks and chokeholds, as opposed to takedowns and throws used in the Japanese method.

BJJ is often seen as not just a martial art, but a form of character building

BJJ is often seen as not just a martial art, but a form of character building, as founder Carlos Gracie found that when he started as a 15 year old boy, he became more confident, tolerant and always looking to improve.

That’s an oversimplification of the sport, so what other way to explain than a ‘Jiu Jitsu for dummies’ YouTube video below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVkGvkFsmjI

When Demi fell in love with BJJ

Demi has spoken before about the importance of working out for her mental health, advising people with depression, anxiety or stress to do the same. ‘I work out personally because of the way it makes me feel and the release of serotonin [happy chemical in the brain]. It’s important to take care of yourself physically but also mentally as well,’ she told SELF Magazine.

What Demi loves about jiu-jitsu and MMA is that it never gets boring. ‘When you’re rolling with somebody, you’re constantly thinking of defending or attacking moves, so it’s kind of meditative in a way, but it’s also a great workout when you’re training — when you’re really moving around with somebody’, she told POPSUGAR about her workout routines.

Rooting for her all the way are Demi’s team of trainers, including Jay Glazer, Danielle Martin and Tarsis Humphreys. Tarsis is a black belt three times World Champion in BJJ, smashing titles since his career started 21 years ago. He talks exclusively to Healthista about why women like Demi are falling in love with the sport.

Tarsis Humphreys on Demi’s training routine

‘I have a friend who is a BJJ black belt and teaches self-defence and jiu-jitsu for women, Danielle Martin,’ says Demi’s trainer Tarsis Humphreys, who healthista spoketo exclusively for this piece. ‘She started to teach Demi and is the main teacher for her. As Demi became more interested in the sport, Danielle asked me to teach Demi in a class as I am a professional athlete and have been doing it for 21 years. Demi enjoyed my class so I started to teach her.

‘Demi is still a beginner after one year. You need years to be good, but she’s doing a great job. She is a smart and learns super fast. If she wants to compete, I don’t know if that’s her goal yet, she will be an amazing competitor.

‘She trains almost every day during the week for at least two hours,’ says Humphreys. ‘Most people train one hour a day three times a week, but she’s intense. She does Muay Thai, boxing, cardio, functional training – a lot! She trains MMA sometimes with professional fighters, but I don’t believe she competes. MMA is tough. You can simulate some moves, but to be a fighter is another level. I try to see her at least once a week when she is in town (LA).

Great day with toughest white belt that I know, @ddlovato. Watch out guys and girls, not just a sick singer but also super talented in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. @trueboundaries
Demi Lovato and Tarsis Humphreys

‘During a session you always need to warm up the body. Then you work on new movements with a partner. You can do it by yourself by drilling or shadowing but you don’t feel it as much. There is a lot to learn – the take down, the top game the bottom game, the defensive part, offensive part, so we always try to learn a new sequence. We always have answers depending on how the other person is going to react. I try and give as much information as possible so there is more than one option to take. It’s not like a sport that you learn ten techniques and continue to get faster and stronger. BJJ has thousands of techniques and its still evolving now.’

How the belts work

‘You start on the white belt, then you go to blue, which is what Demi is on, then purple, brown and black. To get to the black belt you need to be very complete. Demi has just moved up which means she now knows the minimal requirement to get to the blue belt. She knows how to play on bottom, on top, take down, defend and attack. But there are a lot of techniques she needs to absorb to move to the purple.’

‘In our confederation system there is a minimal time requirement for each belt so you don’t move too fast and it also depends on the teacher to analyse whether you are ready to move onto the next belt. It takes a minimum of about 6-7 years to get to the black belt but usually takes much longer. You need to reach the maximum knowledge of the techniques as well as how to respect others and be a better person – it’s not just about technique.’

Why Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu will change your body

‘You don’t need any type of body shape to do BJJ. If you want to play basketball you need to be tall or soccer players need to be fast with big legs. Anyone can do BJJ – a tall guy, a skinny guy, an overweight guy, a woman or a child. Everyone feels comfortable with BJJ because of that. They have a chance.

Sports helps us to continue being human beings

‘You can definitely keep fit with BJJ. It burns a lot of calories and it is a complete sport using every body part from your hands to your forearms to your thighs and even the toes. You are always using the whole body, never just one par t so it builds muscles and strength while also helping the body to stretch too

Demi Lovato uses other training such as functional training, too

Jiu jitsu helps in everyday life

‘I don’t know why but BJJ is addicting. You either love it or hate it and it stays interesting because as a martial art you never stop learning.

Jiu jitsu like life, sometimes you are on top and feeling good and then all of a sudden you have a lot of pressure on you and you need to deal with it

‘Martial arts and BJJ are like chess. You always have to be many steps ahead of your opponent in your own mind and need to think on your feet and be technical, predicting the next move of your partner and having a game plan every time. I think people like Demi love that because every one has their jobs and no matter how much you love it, it’s good to have something else to entertain you and destress you.

‘When you practise BJJ you start to understand your body, how it moves and how you can improve it. You learn how to deal with situations with a strategy. At one point you will be on top of someone, smashing them and in control. The next second it’s the reverse, and you are on the ground and you need to deal with that. It’s just like life, sometimes you are on top and feeling good and then all of a sudden you have a lot of pressure on you, feeling uncomfortable, and you need to deal with it.

Demi training despite a fractured foot

Jiu jitsu pros eat clean

I avoid processed foods and things that contain a lot of chemicals, eating as raw as possible, no condiments, just a little salt, with all fresh foods, organic without pesticides and other nasties. I’m not saying I don’t ever eat processed foods such as milkshake or fries, I do once in a while. You need that balance. But you really need to know when is balance and when it is not.

In the long term you feel the difference in your energy, body and even your taste.

‘I do sometimes have supplements as well as vitamins, because sometimes I don’t have enough time or can’t eat the amount of meat or carbs I need, but only things my nutrionist recommends to me with scientific evidence and no faddy trends. Sometimes I use resistant starch which comes from potatoes [and helps fullness and to balance blood sugar] which is natural and easy for me. I need to train, teach and pay my bills so things need to be practical!’

Is there a rise in interest in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?

‘Yes definitely. Especially now as Demi is involved and she is a big public figure and a lot of girls love her. I think this will be a really great help to make girls start BJJ. I believe everyone should learn Jiu-jitsu because it’s important to know how to defend yourself in any situation where you need to protect yourself without feeling scared.’

Give the sport a chance

‘You have to give things a little time to see if you like it. Try to find a good gym that has positive feedback, that is a good influence for other people and that loves the sport and dedicates a lot of time to learn the pure technique. My advice is to just try. I guarantee it will change your life’.

Where you can try Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Think you’ve got what it takes to learn the skill? You’ll be surprised at how many locations are offering martial arts. Check out the following three places where you can get trained up.

Roger Gracie Jiu Jitsu – all over the UK
Recommended by Tarsis Humphreys himself, Roger Gracie is the grandson of the founder of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Carlos Gracie. The 10 time world champion has put together a team of the highest quality instructors to teach the Gracie’s method in various locations across the UK, including Farringdon Gymbox, Wimbledon, Richmond and Brighton. You can try a class for free, and thereafter their timetable is packed with classes of varying degrees and styles, and they even have a women’s own class. Find out more on the website.

2. Wave BJJ – around London

Wave BJJ have schools in West London in Chiswick and South East London in Elephant and Castle. The founder, who’s name is just given as Lorenzo, first tried BJJ at Roger Gracie Academy in 2005, unaware he would soon be teaching in his own school. The school have classes, one to one sessions and rehab classes such as Pilates across London and like to stay social with trips abroad for competition, making it a real sports team. Find out more on the website.

3. Fight Zone – London

Fight Zone London’s timetable offers over 70 classes per week (one of the largest training schedules in Europe) in a variety of fighting disciplines – boxing, Muay Thai, MMA, BJJ, wrestling, judo and strength and conditioning. The brand name Fight Zone originated in Brazil, an academy that was started by 9x BJJ World champion Ricardo Vieira. Now in East London, Fight Zone London was founded by one of Vieira’s prime students – Marco Canha, who is the head instructor. With some of the best coaches in the business, you’ll be in good hands. Nevertheless, whenever Demi promotes martial arts, that's a good thing.

6 ways singer Demi Lovato stays motivated — even on the road (http://www.latimes.com/health/la-he-demi-lovato-20180606-story.html)

Singer Demi Lovato is committed to staying fit, even on the road. (Chris Pizzello/Invision/AP)

Demi Lovato hadn’t worked out in a week and was beginning to feel it.

“I don’t know how but I injured my neck during a show so haven’t been able to exercise,” the singer-songwriter said on a recent afternoon. “Working out is a type of meditation for me, so I get a little stir crazy without it.”

Lovato, 25, was nestled on the couch in the top floor of her West Hollywood house, sipping a cup of tea formulated with licorice root and slippery elm bark, her go-to for keeping her throat soothed. In a few hours, she was heading back onstage as part of a worldwide concert tour that will take her through South America and Europe.

The performer has been all over social media of late slamming what she describes as “diet culture.” Instead, she tells her legion of followers to do what works for them, and to reject expectations of what a “perfect” body looks like.

“Society has been obsessed with dieting for a long time now,” she said. “I’m just focused on being happy and healthy in my own way.”

In addition to touring, Lovato is creating collections for athletic wear brand Fabletics, which is co-founded by actress Kate Hudson. And Lovato recently came on board Ember — an app-controlled drinking mug (because there’s an app for everything) — that keeps beverages at a consistent temperature for hours, and which Lovato keeps close by on stage because “I need hot tea to sing.”

Here, Lovato talks about staying motivated, eating clean and the compelling lure of jiujitsu martial arts:

1. Start somewhere

Everybody has to be at a point in their lives where they are ready. I hit a point where I wasn’t happy with my body and I realized I wasn’t doing anything about it. I hit a wall, was getting sick all the time and really needed to make some changes in my life. Now I’m at peace with my body because I work out six days a week. If my body doesn’t look the way I want it to look, or held to society’s standards, at least I know I’m doing everything I can.

2. Keep at it

You need to push through those first couple of weeks and your body and mind adapt. You start gaining energy rather than feeling tired from it. You just have to get past the threshold. Once you do that, it becomes easier. If you take time off, it becomes hard again. So stay with it. It helps to find something you love to do. If you like dance, take Zumba. If you don’t like running, don’t run and find something else.

3. The power of mixed martial arts

I never considered myself a sporty person until I got into MMA. In school, instead of sports, I did beauty pageants and sang in the choir. I work with different trainers at the same gym so I switch out between boxing to Muay Thai [a combat sport] to jiujitsu. When I have days off I’ll go two hours, an hour for strength and conditioning and an hour of boxing or whatever. I like to get it out of the way in the morning and not worry about it the rest of the day.

4. More women should try it

It’s intimidating for some people, but the sport of MMA is growing so much. The more women try it, the better it is for their self-esteem, their confidence and their ability to defend themselves in all types of situations.

5. Taking it on the road

On tour, we choose our hotels based on two things — security, and the gym. The trainer takes everything I need, resistance bands, boxing gear, shin guards, all of it. Before, if I had time while on tour, I’d sleep. Now, I work out first.

6. When I indulge…

Dark chocolate is usually my go-to when I have a sweet tooth. And I love RX bars because they have such simple ingredients. I always carry some, especially on the road.

Demi Lovato "Awake" After Being Hospitalized for Possible Overdose (https://edit.hollywoodreporter.com/news/demi-lovato-hospitalized-overdose-1129584)

Demi Lovato

Authorities were called on Tuesday to a home in the Hollywood Hills.

Demi Lovato is "awake and with her family" after being hospitalized on Tuesday, her representative said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.

"Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support," her representative said in the statement. "Some of the information being reported is incorrect and they respectfully ask for privacy and not speculation as her health and recovery is the most important thing right now."

Los Angeles police said earlier on Tuesday that they responded to a call at 11:39 a.m. to a home on the 8000 block of Laurel View Drive in the Hollywood Hills for a female victim of a possible overdose. Lovato's home is on that block.

Los Angeles police department spokesman Raymond Brown declined to name the individual who was transported to a local hospital. However, TMZ, citing an unnamed law enforcement source, reported that the victim was Lovato, who suffered an apparent overdose.

Later on Tuesday, People, citing an unnamed source, reported that Lovato was "okay & stable."

Also on Tuesday, Fox announced that a Tuesday episode of Beat Shazam featuring Lovato as a guest appearance would be replaced with another new episode. "Our thoughts go out to Demi and her family," the statement read. The episode featuring Lovato was originally filmed in December.

Lovato released a song this summer called "Sober," in which she details experience with withdrawal and possibly relapsing.

In a YouTube documentary about the singer that debuted last fall called Simply Complicated, Lovato opened up about her past drug use, which began when she was 17.

"I felt out of control the first time I did it," she said. "My dad was an addict and an alcoholic. Guess I always searched for what he found in drugs and alcohol because it fulfilled him and he chose that over a family.”

YouTube announced in May that it has plans for another show with Lovato in which she "pays it forward" to some of her fans.

Lovato went to rehab for the first time in 2010. "I wasn't ready to get sober. I was sneaking it on planes, sneaking it in bathrooms, sneaking it throughout the night," she said in the documentary.

Demi Lovato is still hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles six days after a suspected drug overdose, a source confirmed to Variety.

The “Tell Me You Love Me” singer is reportedly suffering complications from the overdose, including extreme nausea and a high fever, TMZ reports.

While doctors have not decided when Lovato can be released from the hospital, “she is under the care of medical experts and is expected to make a full recovery,” a source told TMZ.

Lovato was found unconscious following an overdose last Tuesday. She was reportedly treated with Narcan — a medication designed to rapidly reverse opioid overdose — before being rushed to a local hospital.

“Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers, and support,” Lovato’s rep told Variety last week. “Some of the information being reported is incorrect and they respectfully ask for privacy and not speculation as her health and recovery is the most important thing right now.”

Lovato has struggled with substance abuse for years. She revealed in June in her single “Sober” — off of her sixth album, “Tell Me You Love Me” — that she had relapsed just months after celebrating six years of sobriety.

I've volunteered working in drug intervention for over 3 decades now. Unless you've been there, you have no idea what the darkness brings. If it wasn't for my martial practice, I might have suffered a similar fate.

Demi Lovato Speaks Out for the First Time After Reported Overdose: 'I Will Keep Fighting' (https://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/pop/8468689/demi-lovato-instagram-note-overdose-report)
8/5/2018 by Ashley Iasimone

Demi Lovato has spoken for the first time since her recent hospitalization for an apparent drug overdose.

The singer posted an emotional note on Instagram Sunday (Aug. 5), continuing her penchant for being candid with her fans about her personal struggles. The update is the first to come directly from Lovato since reportedly receiving medical care in her Hollywood Hills home on July 24.

"I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction," she began. "What I've learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time. It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet."

Lovato continued: "I want to thank God for keeping me alive and well. To my fans, I am forever grateful for all of your love and support throughout this past week and beyond. Your positive thoughts and prayers have helped me navigate through this difficult time."

"I want to thank my family, my team, and the staff at Cedars-Sinai who have been by my side this entire time. Without them I wouldn't be here writing this letter to all of you," she said.

"I now need time to heal and focus on my sobriety and road to recovery. The love you have all shown me will never be forgotten and I look forward to the day where I can say I came out on the other side. I will keep fighting."

In June, just a month before her alleged overdose, Lovato released the honest ballad "Sober," in which she sings, "Momma, I'm so sorry, I'm not sober anymore. Daddy, please forgive me for the spilled drinks on the floor. The ones who never left me, we've been down this road before. I'm so sorry, I'm not sober anymore."

DEMI LOVATO SMILING, HAPPY DURING REHAB OUTING (http://www.tmz.com/2018/09/23/demi-lovato-in-public-rehab-two-month-overdose-od-anniversary/)

Demi Lovato Seen Out in Public During Rehab Break 2 Months After Overdose

EXCLUSIVE
https://images.tmz.com/2018/09/23/0923-demi-lovato-tmz-12.jpg

Demi Lovato looked relaxed and happy Sunday as she exercised her day pass from her rehab facility ... nearly 2 months to the day after her near-fatal overdose.

The "Sober" singer was seen out in public Sunday morning near the rehab facility, where she's been since relocating from her East Coast facility. She was chatting up a lady with a cute pup, coffee in hand ... and a big grin on her face. From outward appearances ... Demi looks like she's doing great.

The morning outing comes just one day before the two-month mark of her OD. We broke the story ... Demi suffered an OD July 24 at her Hollywood Hills home, where her drug dealer supplied her with "aftermarket pills" that appeared to be laced with fentanyl.

Like we told you ... Demi's been seen in town lately with Wilmer Valderrama, who has been by her side since she was hospitalized. A source connected to Demi tells us the exes have not reignited their relationship -- it's all about friendship.

She needs to get back into training. Just my 2 cents...

Demi Lovato Is 90 Days Sober, Her Mother Says (https://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/pop/8482006/demi-lovato-sober-90-days-mom-interview)

Demi Lovato attends the Vanity Fair Oscar Party 2017 on Feb. 26, 2017 in Beverly Hills, Calif.

Demi Lovato has reached 90 days of sobriety, according her mother, Dianna De La Garza.

"She has 90 days," she confirmed in an interview on Maria Menounos‘ Sirius XM show Friday (Oct. 26). "I couldn't be more thankful or more proud of her because addiction being a disease, it's work. It's very hard. It's not easy, and there are no shortcuts."

The singer has been in rehab since being hospitalized for an apparent drug overdose in July.

Her mother admitted she "can't really say for sure" what led to her daughter's relapse.

"I knew that she wasn't sober," De La Garza said of Lovato, who apologized for no longer being sober in her ballad "Sober," released in June. "I didn't know what she was doing because she doesn't live with me and she's 26."

De La Garza recounted the moment she found out about Lovato's overdose, saying that text messages alerted her that something had happened. "The one text message that clued me in on what was going on said, 'I just saw on TMZ and I'm so sorry,'" she said. "Before I could get to TMZ, I got the phone call from her assistant and she said, 'We're at the hospital.' So then I knew, OK, she's not gone. She's here. And I said, 'What's going on?' And the words that I heard are just a nightmare for any parent: 'Demi overdosed.'"

In August, Lovato shared an emotional message on social media about overcoming addiction: "I now need time to heal and focus on my sobriety and road to recovery," she wrote on Instagram. "The love you have all shown me will never be forgotten and I look forward to the day where I can say I came out on the other side. I will keep fighting."

WHAT HAPPENED TO DEMI LOVATO? SINGER TO REVEAL DETAILS ABOUT OVERDOSE, SLAMS TABLOIDS FOR MAKING UP RUMORS (https://www.newsweek.com/demi-lovato-what-happened-overdose-reveal-details-update-1269516)
BY MARIA VULTAGGIO ON 12/22/18 AT 10:02 AM

Sorry Not Sorry singer Demi Lovato took to Twitter Friday night to slam tabloid stories about her recovery. The vocalist had a drug overdose in July at her Los Angeles home and has remained under the radar since. Rumors about her recovery and sober companion, clothing designer Henry Levy, have spread while she keeps to herself—but the star wants the gossip about her private life to end.

“I love my fans, and hate tabloids. Don’t believe what you read. People will literally make up stuff to sell a story. Sickening,” Lovato, 26, tweeted. She didn’t reveal what tabloid story she was referring to.

“Someday I’ll tell the world what exactly happened, why it happened and what my life is like today.. but until I’m ready to share that with people please stop prying and making up **** that you know nothing about. I still need space and time to heal,” she wrote.

Lovato added: “Any ‘source’ out there that is willing to talk and sell stories to blogs and tabloids about my life isn’t actually a part of my life because most of the **** I see is soooooo inaccurate. So newsflash: your ‘sources’ are wrong.”

At the end of her Friday tweets, she added that she was “grateful” for her fans. "I would love to set the record straight on all the rumors out there but I literally don’t owe anyone anything so I’m not going to. All my fans need to know is I’m working hard on myself, I’m happy and clean and I’m SO grateful for their support,” Lovato wrote. “I’m so blessed I get to take this time to be with family, relax, work on my mind, body and soul and come back when I’m ready. I have my fans to thank for that. I’m so grateful, truly. I love you guys so f---ing much.”

Lovato was nominated for her second Grammy in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category. She teamed up with Christina Aguilera, 37, for the duet “Fall in Line,” which is on Aguilera's eighth studio record, Liberation.

“Woke up filled with hope. Dreams come true y'all... thank you @xtina. I love you so much," she tweeted after the nomination was revealed. She called Aguilera her “forever idol” and thanked her for the “opportunity” to collaborate on the song.

Hope she can keep it together.

Keep training, Demi!

Demi Lovato may have some dental bills in her future!

The singer, 26, regularly works out at a mixed martial arts gym in Hollywood, and during a boxing session with her trainer, Jay Glazer, she managed to knock out one of his teeth.

“Holy s— I literally knocked @jayglazerthis link opens in a new tab’s tooth out during training this morning — while he was wearing a mouth piece!!!! Hahahahaha sorry (not sorry) Jay!!!” Lovato posted on Instagram on Tuesday.

“So coach, when’s my first fight?!” she added.

In the accompanying video, Glazer rings a bell and holds up his now-freed front tooth. With a grin, he announces to the gym, “Demi knocked my tooth out!”

Holy **** I literally knocked @jayglazer’s tooth out during training this morning - while he was wearing a mouth piece!!!! Hahahahaha sorry (not sorry) Jay!!! 😂😝👊🏼 So coach, when’s my first fight?! 😝 #unbreakableperformance

“I’m sorry!” Lovato says with a laugh.

“You’re not sorry!” he jokingly adds.

Glazer shared the video on his Instagram story and shared his (likely not dentist-approved) quick fix for his missing tooth.

“Driving to a meeting right now and I know you’re all concerned about my tooth, especially you Demi! I Krazy-Glued it back in. All good!” he said with a smile.

The “Tell Me You Love Me” singer is a blue belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and shared a post-fight selfie in December.

“Sweaty, messy jiu jitsu hair.. #BJJ #bluebelt #nevergiveup,” Lovato posted on Instagram.

And Glazer is one of her biggest supporters. After Lovato got her blue belt, the second of seven levels, in August 2017, he boasted about her on Instagram.

“I’m more proud of the work @ddlovato puts in with nobody watching than I am what she does with the world watching,” Glazer wrote. “Congrats on achieving your blue belt today in #bjj, YOU put the grind in!”

Lovato is living a quiet life after her July drug overdose. At the end of January, she celebrated six months of sobriety with cake.

“Best day ever,” she captioned an Instagram story that included a picture of the cake and her six-month sobriety medallion.

If you or someone you know is in need of help, please contact the SAMHSA substance abuse helpline at 1-800-662-HELP.

Congrats on six months Demi!

Wait...super glue? Won't that tooth just die? ew.

I remember when someone I was training with chipped a tooth during class. He took a staff to the face. FYI you're supposed to put a broken tooth in milk to preserve it for reattachment. He's good now.

Demi Lovato is crushing it on the jiu-jitsu mat.

The 26-year-old singer shared on Wednesday that she earned a new degree in the Brazilian martial art.

“2nd degree blue belt!!!!” Lovato wrote on her Instagram story, along with a photo of her new stripe.

“This means the world to me and I couldn’t be happier,” she added in another photo. “Brazilian jiu jitsu is a passion of mine and I can’t wait to learn more and more.”

Lovato also thanked her instructor, Chris Light, who gave her a sweet note about her promotion that read: “Earned. Not given.”

“Thank you @1chrislight for teaching me so much,” she said. “I can’t believe how far I’ve come since working together. You’re a legend!!”

Lovato’s blue belt, which she earned in August 2017, is the second of seven belt levels in the Brazilian jiu-jitsu system. Within each level, instructors can award stripes, or degrees, to honor a student’s progress and skill, according to the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federationthis link opens in a new tab.

Ever since completing rehab following her drug overdose in July, Lovato has spent much of her time practicing mixed martial arts at her favorite gym, Unbreakable Performance in Hollywood. She shared a post-workout, makeup-free selfie after a jiu-jitsu session in December, one month after leaving rehab.

“Sweaty, messy jiu jitsu hair.. 😝💪🏻 #BJJ #bluebelt #nevergiveup 💙🥋” she wrote alongside the selfie.

Demi Lovato attends the 2017 Time 100 Gala at Jazz at Lincoln Center on April 25, 2017 in New York City.

After a body-shaming headline noted that she "appears to have a fuller figure," Demi Lovato took to her Instagram Stories yesterday (March 28) to respond.

The singer posted a screenshot of the headline and wrote, "I AM MORE THAN MY WEIGHT" before posting a message about the dangers of such articles and the way they can encourage eating disorders.

"Unlike the past, I'm not triggered, I'm not upset that someone wrote a headline about my 'fuller figure,'" she wrote. "I'm angry that people think it's okay to write headlines about people's body shapes. Especially a woman who has been so open about being in recovery from an eating disorder. I'm not upset for myself but for anyone easily influenced by the diet culture."
'
"Too many people today base their ideal body weight off of what OTHERS tell us we should look like or weigh," she continued. "Articles like these only contribute to that toxic way of thinking."

Lovato also posted screenshots of a DM conversation with the reporter who wrote the article, who had reached out to her to apologize after seeing her message. "This is a lesson learnt," he told her.

"Thank you for understanding where I'm coming from," she responded. "Let's create change together."

Demi Lovato Reflects on Year Since Hospitalization: "I Am Human, So Be Easy on Me" (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/demi-lovato-reflects-year-hospitalization-i-am-human-be-easy-me-1251892)

"I'm so tired of pretending like I'm not human. That's one thing that I won't do anymore," Lovato told fans at the Teen Vogue Summit. "I would never regret anything. I love the person that I am today."

Demi Lovato broke her silence in her first interview since she was hospitalized for an apparent drug overdose in July 2018.

At the Teen Vogue Summit in Los Angeles on Saturday, Lovato told the crowd that she has learned from her experiences over the past year and has "never been more in tune with who I am than where I'm at today.

She started by acknowledging she was "a little nervous" for her "first public thing back," and explained that "I've changed a lot. I've gone through a lot." The singer would go on to speak about her new music, the process of loving her body and her new outlook on life and fame.

One thing she’s learning about is how to handle the online critics. "What a lot of people don't realize is that I'm actually an extremely sensitive person," Lovato said. "I am human, so be easy on me. And I'm so tired of pretending like I'm not human. That's one thing that I won't do anymore. When you say stuff, it affects me. I'm human. I try not to look, but I see it."

When asked what she sees when she looks in the mirror now, Lovato said, "I see someone that's overcome a lot."

She continued, "I genuinely see a fighter. I don't see a championship winner in there, but I see a fighter and I see someone that's going to continue to fight no matter [what] challenges are thrown their way."

"Genuinely I just want people to remember that I'm a singer," added the 'Sorry Not Sorry' star. "I think that a lot of the things I've been through kind of outshined my successes in the music industry or acting now. I just want people to remember that that's what I want to give to the world so please focus on that and not the other things."

She thinks "everyone's so quick to cancel everybody and I'm really really tired of it, to be honest. People just make mistakes."

The 27-year-old explained that she is making her comeback and has plans to release music and acting projects.

"I have new music coming," she told the screaming crowd, before teasing, "I didn't say when." She said, "It's important to remember that I am so cautious this time around of jumping back into things. I've really decided to take my time with things, so when the time is right to release new music, I will put it out there.… I am dying to release new music."

She’ll also appear in David Dobkin’s comedy Eurovision in 2020 and on a forthcoming episode of Will & Grace.

Lovato later reflected on the start of her career and the pressures that come with fame.

“Of course when you're seven or eight years old, and you say, 'Do you want be an actress or a singer?' You're like, 'Yeah put me on stage.' And you aren't even old enough to understand the consequences that come with fame. And yes fame is a privilege. It gets you a lot of things that you don't normally get but there are downsides to it," Lovato said. "It's important to remember those downsides when you're making that choice for the rest of your life, because once you're famous you can't not be famous anymore.… I wish I would have known that as a child."

But Lovato said she doesn’t have regrets about her career path: "I wouldn't change the direction of my life for anything.… I would never regret anything. I love the person that I am today.”

Another lesson she’s learned in the past year is about body acceptance, which she clarified is different fron body positivity.

"Whenever I was in the gym over the past couple years, I was doing it to a very unhealthy extreme. I think that's what led me down a darker path," Lovato said. "For me, embracing my body the way that it is naturally was the reason why I took the month of October off from the gym."

"A huge thing for me has been body acceptance. I feel like something that is not really spoken about a lot is body acceptance. We hear the terms ‘body positivity’ all the time but to be honest, I don't always feel positive about my body. Sometimes I look in the mirror and I'm like, 'Oh I do not like what I see.' But in those moments, I don't sit there and dwell on it. I also don't lie to myself," she said. "I used to look in the mirror and I used to be like, 'I love my body. You're beautifully and wonderfully made.' But the thing was, I didn't believe it so then I just would resent it. And every time I would say it, I would be like, 'You're lying to yourself.'"

Over the past six to nine months, Lovato has come to "be OK" with her appearance. “I don't have to lie to myself and tell myself that I have this amazing body. It's like, if I don't feel it, I don't have to say that. All I have to say is I'm healthy. In that statement, I express gratitude and I express I am grateful for my strength.”

Demi Lovato Has 'Brain Damage' After Suffering 3 Strokes and a Heart Attack Following 2018 Overdose (https://people.com/music/demi-lovato-suffered-three-strokes-heart-attack-after-drug-overdose/)
"Everything had to happen in order for me to learn the lessons that I learned," she told PEOPLE

Demi Lovato is telling it all.

On Wednesday, YouTube premiered the trailer for Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil, a documentary series about her near-fatal 2018 drug overdose and the effects it had on Lovato's life. The trailer gives the first look into what the 28-year-old songstress faced after being hospitalized. She also reveals that she had three strokes and a heart attack in the hospital.

Alongside the docuseries' director Michael D. Ratner at the documentary's Television Critics Association panel on Wednesday, Lovato talked more about the effects the overdose had on her body physically and on her life, emotionally.

"I was left with brain damage, and I still deal with the effects of that today. I don't drive a car, because I have blind spots on my vision," she told reporters. "And I also for a long time had a really hard time reading. It was a big deal when I was able to read out of a book, which was like two months later because my vision was so blurry."

https://imagesvc.meredithcorp.io/v3/mm/image?url=https%3A%2F%2Fstatic.onecms.io%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2Fsites%2F20%2F2021%2F02%2F17%2F demi-lovato.jpg
Demi Lovato

"I dealt with a lot of the repercussions and I feel like they are still there to remind me of what could happen if I ever get into a dark place again," she added. "I'm grateful for those reminders, but I'm so grateful that I was someone that didn't have to do a lot of rehabbing. The rehabbing came on the emotional side."

The singer, however, told PEOPLE that she "wouldn't change a thing" about the aftermath of the overdose.

"Everything had to happen in order for me to learn the lessons that I learned," she told PEOPLE. "It was a painful journey, and I look back and sometimes I get sad when I think of the pain that I had to endure to overcome what I have, but I don't regret anything."

"I'm so proud of the person I am today," she added. "And I'm so proud that people get to see it in this documentary and I couldn't be more grateful that I had someone by my side."

In the revelatory trailer for the documentary, Lovato's friends and family — including her mother and step-father, along with her sister — do interviews talking about the grueling moments that led up to her overdose and what happened afterward. Elton John is also interviewed.

"Anytime you suppress a part of yourself, it's going to overflow," Lovato says in the trailer.

The trailer also shows Lovato throughout the last year, including before her called-off engagement to Max Ehrich. During the interview, she also spoke about her past sobriety.

"I am holding myself accountable," Lovato told reporters. "I learned a lot from my past. I was sober for six years and I learned so much from that journey. That's the main thing that I learned was coming forward and talking about my story held me accountable."

"That's a huge reason as to why I'm doing this, but I think that I was just so proud of the growth that I experienced and something inside of me was really excited to share that with people," she added.

The singer said that it wasn't just the substances that led her to her "breaking point" but also "past traumas" and things she faced within the industry.

"As long as I continue to tell my truth, I'm going to make music that resonates with people," Lovato said Wednesday. "And that's my purpose. I'm an artist that cares a lot about her community — and my community is the entire planet — so I just I'm always striving to help. I think that my work is going to only benefit now that I've learned so much about myself."

I wonder if she'll continue training...

Demi Lovato Comes Out as Non-Binary and Changes Pronouns to They/Them (https://www.eonline.com/news/1271071/demi-lovato-comes-out-as-non-binary-and-changes-pronouns-to-they-them)

Demi Lovato is sharing more about their ongoing fluidity journey.

The 28-year-old star took to Instagram on Wednesday, May 19 to announce they identify as non-binary and will be using the gender-neutral pronouns they/them moving forward. The message came as part of the first episode from the performer's new podcast series, 4D.

"Every day we wake up, we are given another opportunity and chance to be who we want and wish to be," Demi wrote in the caption. "I've spent the majority of my life growing in front of all of you… you've seen the good, the bad, and everything in between. Not only has my life been a journey for myself, I was also living for those on the other side of the cameras."

The "Skyscraper" vocalist continued, "Today is a day I'm so happy to share more of my life with you all - I am proud to let you know that I identify as non-binary and will officially be changing my pronouns to they/them moving forward [sparkling heart emoji] This has come after a lot of healing and self-reflective work. I'm still learning and coming into myself, and I don't claim to be an expert or a spokesperson. Sharing this with you now opens another level of vulnerability for me."

Demi went on to share that they are doing this for those who "haven't been able to share who they truly are with their loved ones."

The singer is known for being an open book with fans. During a March episode of Joe Rogan's podcast, Demi said they identified as pansexual at that time.

"I'm so fluid now, and part of the reason why I am so fluid is because I was like super closeted off," Demi added, per Variety.

Earlier that month, the Sonny with a Chance alum told Glamour that their failed engagement to Max Ehrich offered a "huge sign" about their sexuality. Demi and Max began dating in early 2020 and announced their engagement that July, but by September, it had been called off.

"When I started getting older, I started realizing how queer I really am," Demi shared to Glamour. "This past year, I was engaged to a man, and when it didn't work, I was like, 'This is a huge sign.' I thought I was going to spend my life with someone. Now that I wasn't going to, I felt this sense of relief that I could live my truth."

The "Sorry Not Sorry" singer previously opened up about dating women, in addition to men, in the 2017 YouTube documentary Demi Lovato: Simply Complicated. Years ago, Demi had an on-again, off-again romance with Wilmer Valderrama.

Back in the April 2018 issue of InStyle, Demi shared that love can be found "in any gender." Last July, the entertainer referred to themself as "queer" in an Instagram tribute to late Glee co-star Naya Rivera.

In addition, Demi has discussed various other facets of their life, including their sobriety journey. The star has been open about checking into rehab following an apparent drug overdose in July 2018.

Their music video for "Dancing With the Devil," released last month, focused on the star dramatizing a version of their real-life overdose and hospitalization.

Demi is not the first major music star to come out as non-binary. Sam Smith did so in 2019 and also uses gender-neutral pronouns.

Demi Lovato
Demi Lovato is sending out some good vibrations.

The actor, podcast host, singer, nonbinary icon, and UFO-watcher is expanding their empire by moving into the sex toy industry with a new, gender-inclusive ******** called The Demi Wand.

The Demi Wand is the latest sex toy launched by Boutique Bellesa, one of the leaders when it comes to female, nonbinary, and trans pleasure. It works on all body types, showing Lovato’s commitment to making the world more welcoming for nonbinary people like them.

According to Boutique Bellesa, the toy is an excellent choice for first-time sex toy users, is great for external stimulation, is waterproof, and is made from non-porous, body-safe silicone. It also comes with a compact and discreet case that also works as the toy’s charger. Put it in the cute charging case and plug it in, and you can have hours of fun.

“There is nothing more empowering than taking your pleasure into your own hands,” the site quotes Lovato as saying. “We have spent far too long pretending we are not sexual beings — it’s time for us to put this stigma to rest. We are all deserving of pleasure. We are all deserving of orgasms.”

The Demi Wand was specifically designed to be Bellesa’s best ******** yet, with eight different settings, but no annoying patterns. This is a toy that can make you orgasm so hard you’ll think you had a heart attack.

The Demi Wand is, not surprisingly, already a best-seller on the website, so if you want one, hurry up and buy it today. Fans are also going bonkers over it on social media.
