A tease of one of the articles in our upcoming issue from one of our freelance contributors (authors get advanced copies).

The next issue of Kung Fu Tai Chi magazine will carry a new article on Grandmaster Bow Sim Mark's bagua! It's the March-April issue, but look for it to appear on newsstands as early as next week.

Great issue with a lot of good articles in this one.

I haven't picked up my copy yet. The images from that Bow-Sim Mark article reminded me that I still have her book somewhere, I think it's called Wushu Basics. I got it way back in 1981. Bow-Sim Mark and son Donnie Yen both demonstrated all the techniques in the book. I actually taught myself how to kip up off the floor from that book.

Bow Sim-Mark was well-known in the magazines well before her son Donnie.

It's hard to believe I first heard of Donnie Yen 36 years ago. It was a few years before he got into the movies.

Really liked the Eagle Claw double danger article, and the Shaolin Push Hands article was cool too;)

Was looking forward to reading the competition push hands article but too much info for me ,prefer the simple to the point articles that focus on training and technique.

nice form ,very fluid. also looks like he modified the stances a little. didn't see the usual deep long stance, which I like cause they give my knees trouble. it is hard telling a traditional Shaolin teacher this ,cause they are used to teaching young kids and teenagers, also they have learned to squat from an early age due to the toilets in China. If you are like a middle age man with knee surgery, it is not always that practical and healthy to do deep low stances.

It was a good article still though. I enjoyed reading it when I brought it home from the newsstand.

With each issue, I strive to get a variety of submissions: a technical, a theoretical, an internal, an external, a beginner level piece, an intermediate/advanced level, a contemporary, a historical...you get the idea. I can't always get everything in because freelancers will submit what they will, so there's a lot of organic process with selection. But we hope to appeal to all Chinese martial arts enthusiasts, and that's a surprisingly wide demographic.

I'm enjoying hearing your feedback. That's part and parcel of what this forum is all about. Thanks for reading us and keep it coming!

There's only three for this issue, but there were three videos, so that's special. :)

The MARCH+APRIL 2017 issue cover story - Family of Lions (http://www.kungfumagazine.com/magazine/article.php?article=1344) by Jeff Hung and Stephen Chew - is available for free online.

I just realized I should've changed the title of this to Pride of Lions. 20/20 hindsight is the bane of print publishing. :o

On a positive note, March did come in like a lion.
