This is a dumb publicity grab. As if Jackie and Jet have nothing else to do - they have their own film industry to promote (http://www.kungfumagazine.com/forum/showthread.php?57225-Chollywood-rising&p=1300513#post1300513) and they are paid well to do it.

But I do like Indonesian silat films, especially having just reviewed the latest one (http://www.kungfumagazine.com/forum/showthread.php?69231-Headshot&p=1300501#post1300501).

Jackie Chan and Jet Li have been invited to participate in Pamanca the Movie, an upcoming film by local production house Rafindo Galesong.

Executive producer Muhammad Basir said scripts for both actors had been sent, adding that they were being offered supporting roles in the film, according to tempo.co.

“If it’s about payment, of course we will not be able to meet their standards. Hopefully, they will agree to take part in this film in order to help improve [our] film industry,” Muhammad said.

Pamanca the Movie is an epic historical film set in the 1800s and focusing on pamanca, a traditional form of martial arts from South Sulawesi province, that involves silat martial art movements and pain resistance skills. Antara news agency reported that the movie was scheduled to be shot at four different places in the province, including the capital city of Makassar, Bulukumba and Bone regencies and the city of Parepare.

The movie's preproduction is set to kick off in Makassar on March 11. (mas/kes)

There's more buzz on this in other Jakarta news. None of it quotes Jackie or Jet. And in this one, in the Jakarta Post, one of their more prominent news outlets, the photo is from Around the World in 80 Days (2004). Not convincing.

Following news that Jackie Chan and Jet Li were being invited to participate in an upcoming colossal Indonesian film titled Pamanca the Movie, the movie's spokesperson Andi Iwan told tempo.co on Tuesday that he was optimistic the two veteran actors would agree to take part in the Makassar flick.

Andi mentioned that the movie's executive producer Muhammad Basir was a martial artist who had often practiced with Chan and Li.

“They often practice together in Singapore or China,” he said, adding that Chan had provided technical input regarding the movie's action scenes.

Andi also stated that both actors were interested in taking part in the film since they had never acted in an Indonesian film before. “They are very happy to participate, especially since the film highlights cultural themes."

Chan is also reportedly interested in getting involved in the film as a result of his interest in Indonesia as a Muslim-majority country.
