I'm surprised no one has asked, but this is William Cheung's "Traditional Wing Chun" Chum Kiu form practiced in 3 different ways. The Pin Sun Wing Chun I learned is also organized this way. There are short 3 or 4 move "forms" or "San Sik" that are practiced first empty-hand, then with a partner in a specific drill, then on the dummy, and most can also be done with the knives. I think this is a very efficient way to train. For instance, imagine having a student that has just learned the TWC Chum Kiu form but is still a long way from learning the actual dummy form. Then imagine the light bulb that goes off in his head when you tell him "now let me show you how to do the Chum Kiu form on the dummy" and he realizes that he has a dummy form without having to learn a whole new sequence of technique! And practicing on the dummy or with the knives gives the student a new perspective and a new appreciation for the actual primary empty hand form.

Does anyone else's system set things up this way??

Yep! For half-jokingly telling you to "Fxck off!" I'm pretty fed up with how they only scan for "bad words" and don't actually read for content there. I've reached the conclusion that no moderation is better than that kind of moderation.

Moderation there is ridiculous. The only reason to post there would be if you are scared to post here
