I'm not sure if there was already a thread on this, but I watched this, and it's my favorite MA-related animated movie by far, anime or otherwise. IMO, it's a superior movie to the U.S. blockbuster Kung Fu Panda. Not to mention there are some unique plot twists.
Lately, I've been checking out more of the excellent anime movies that are NOT Studio Ghibli. The Boy and the Beast is directed by Mamoru Hosoda, one of the great anime directors to take the lead now that Studio Ghibli's Hayao Miyazaki is retired. Hosoda also directed the excellent Wolf Children. From these two films I've seen so far, I find myself liking Hosoda's work more than some of Miyazaki's.
