The title is based on the hit comic created by J. Scott Campbell and Andy Hartnell.

Constantin Film, the company behind the Resident Evil movie series, is eyeing a new female-fronted action franchise.

The company has picked up the film rights to Danger Girl, the hit 1990s comic book, and is developing the title with Jeremy Bolt's Bolt Pictures and Adrian Askarieh's Prime Universe Films to produce films and television shows based on the fan-favorite property.

Created by artist J. Scott Campbell and writer Andy Hartnell, Girl follows the adventures of Abbey Chase, an adventurer who was reluctantly recruited into a secret organization. Chase is then paired with operatives Sydney Savage and Natalia Kasstle on a globe-trotting adventure to locate a series of mystical objects and keep them out of the hands of the evil Hammer Syndicate.

The comic was a blend of Indiana Jones, James Bond and Charlie's Angels and an instant hit when it debuted in 1998 from Jim Lee's Wildstorm imprint.

The comic spawned a Sony PlayStation video game and was at one point set up at New Line with Blade director Stephen Norrington attached.

Askarieh, who is a producer of the Hitman action films, has been developing the property of late and brought it to Bolt and Constantin, with whom he recently signed a first-look deal.

Constantin's Robert Kulzer will produce along with Bolt and Askarieh. Constantin's Martin Moszkowicz will executive produce. Creators Campbell and Hartnell will also executive produce.

Female empowerment will be one of the buzzwords. "Danger Girl is the perfect opportunity to create a team of grounded, relatable and dangerous young female characters but with humor and spectacular action," said Bolt.

The producers are fielding ideas from writers and filmmakers.

Campbell and Hartnell were repped by Matt Sugarman of Weintraub Tobin in the deal.

I wasn't overly impressed with the Hitman (http://www.kungfumagazine.com/forum/showthread.php?49129-Hitman) franchise. :o

Jeff Wadlow, the director of Sony’s upcoming Fantasy Island big-screen adaptation, is set to direct Danger Girl for Constantin Film AG with shooting to begin in 2020.

Danger Girl, described as a priority production for the Munich-based Constantin Film, will adapt the namesake comic book series co-created by fan-favorite artist J. Scott Campbell (Gen 13) and writer Andy Hartnell and published since 2012 by IDW Publishing of San Diego. The Danger Girl series celebrated its 20th anniversary last year and is known for high-velocity action, winking humor, and its scantily clad squad of super-spy protagonists.

The long-enduring comic book brand follows the adventures of lead character Abbey Chase, who is reluctantly recruited into an all-female secret organization.

The daring Chase finds herself teamed with a trio of elite operatives — Sydney Savage, Natalia Kasstle, and “Silicon” Valerie — and dispatched on a globe-trotting adventure to find and secure a series of objects with destructive power coveted by the evil neo-nazi collective called the Hammer Syndicate.

Chase is described in the comics as a world-class marksman, a language savant, a formidable scholar of world history, and a heart-stopping beauty. The overall tone over the years has ranged somewhere between the big-screen versions of Charlie’s Angels and Tomb Raider.

In its two decades of publishing, the Danger Girl series has mounted notable crossover adventures teaming Abbey Chase with Batman, G.I. Joe and Ash of Army of Darkness. The brand has made a variety of stops among publishers, too, starting at Wildstorm Productions in 1998 under the Cliffhanger Imprint, which Campbell launched with fellow artists Joe Madureira and Humberto Ramos.

The comic book series Danger Girl was also adapted as a video game in 2000.

For the big-screen version now in the works, Umair Aleem was brought in to write the script adapting the comics to live-action. Wadlow, who has superhero experience after writing and directing Universal’s Kick Ass 2 (2013), will do rewrite work. Wadlow also is a writer on Bloodshot, Sony’s upcoming sci-fi action film starring Vin Diesel and based on the Valiant Comics property. )

Wadlow’s other directorial credit include last year’s Truth or Dare from Blumhouse and Never Back Down, the 2008 martial arts tale about an underground fight club operating at an Orlando high school.

The producers of Danger Girl are Robert Kulzer of Constantin Film, Jeremy Bolt of JB Pictures, and Adrian Askarieh of Prime Universe Films. Constantin Film’s Martin Moszkowicz is executive producer, along with J. Scott Campbell and Andy Hartnell

Wadlow was repped on the deal by Artists First, UTA, and attorney David Matlof.
