I am going to be visiting a traditional school this evening with the intent of joining if the visit goes well. The school specializes in Baguazhang and Xingyi and that is what I am interested in. However, the instructor told me that all new students are required to learn Xiao Hong Quan before they are allowed to study Baguazhang and Xingyi.

I have read a little about Xiao Hong Quan on the Internet and know that it translates as "little red fist" and that it is a beginner form that teaches the basics...However, I was wondering if anyone could give me a bit more detailed description of Xiao Hong Quan as I had never heard of it before the instuctor mentioned it.

Also, not that it is a problem for me (more of a curiousity), how long can I expect to be studying Xiao Hong Quan before I am allowed to go on to Baguazhang and Xingyi. I know that this is a very general question and the answer probably varies from school to school...I assume that some level of proficiency must be achieved in this style before moving on...So, generally speaking, how long does it take to become proficient in Xiao Hong Quan.

Thanks for your answers and I appreciate the help!

The xiaohongquan is available on www.cyberkwoon.com (http://www.cyberkwoon.com) as a free e-book if you register there. Don't know how long it would take to learn, but it doesn't seem to be too difficult if you have studied some similar type of kung fu previously.

That link did the trick...I now have a very clear idea of what Xiao Hong Quan is...

Thanks again!

I just finished a four part series in Kungfu Qigong about Xiaohongquan with Shaolin Monk Shi Guolin. It runs from J/A, S/O & N/S 2001 to J/F 2002 on stands now.
Here a link to our forum sponsors where you can get it: http://store.yahoo.com/martialartsmart/2001issues.html
J/F should be available there by the end of the weekend - It's on stands now.
