This turned out to be a good film. An exorcist horror film with some MMA thrown in. They got the perfect actor to portray the middle-aged exorcist; he exuded spiritual strength and kindness. It is a very Catholic-leaning film, much like the other Korean exorcist film, Two Priests (which is a bit better than The Divine Fury, IMO). But both are good movies, bringing a fresh perspective on the genre that has been sorely lacking in American movies of this sort.

If anyone is expecting a “martial arts/MMA fight movie,” they’re probably going to be disappointed. The lead character is an MMA champion, but there are few fight scenes and no training sequences at all in the movie. The best fight scene is the match at the beginning, and it is the most realistic onscreen choreographed ring or cage fight I’ve ever seen in a movie. Later, it becomes more like a supernatural superhero movie. There is a pretty creepy main villain, a devil worshipper called The Dark Bishop.

At the end, we are informed there will be a sequel featuring a younger priest assistant to the exorcist who is a supporting character in this movie.
