Deadpool 2 director David Leitch is still plotting Bullet Train for Sony, but thanks to Universal, the 87Eleven stunt multi-hyphenate who’s spent since 2014 leaving an impression in the director’s chair will soon bring to life a feature adaptation based on the 1981 ABC series, The Fall Guy.

Deadline’s Justin Kroll was the first to break the news, while THR has more insider info on the project’s title; The latter cites a $125 million dollar bid for the project in a heated auction for Universal against MGM, Lionsgate and Sony, with no streamers involved, as a theatrical release was part of the package.

Glen A. Larson created the hit series which lasted five years, casting Lee Majors in the role of Colt Seavers, a Hollywood stuntman who plied his trade both for the screen, and for his side hustle as a bounty hunter with the help of his cousin and stuntman-in-training, Howie “Kid” Munson (Douglas Barr), and fellow stunt professional Jody Banks (Heather Thomas).

The Fall Guy will see Leitch pairing up once more with Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw writer Drew Pearce, and actor Ryan Gosling, who would mark his return to the stuntman action genre following roles as stunt performer in Nicolas Winding Refn’s 2011 thriller, Drive, and the following year in Derek Cianfrance’s The Place Beyond The Pines with Bradley Cooper and Eva Mendes.

Gosling will also produce The Fall Guy next to Entertainment 360’s Guymon Casady, 87North’s Leitch and partnering Kelly McCormick.

What caught my attention was Leitch.

Always enjoyed that show growing up. Looking forward to seeing how they will do it, for example, staying close to the original or moving it in a different direction like Starskey and Hutch
